though blessed by earthen powers beyond his imagination, super strength isn't one of them nor is impenetrable skin. he may never exhaust but he can still feel pain, and that makes him more mortal than his opponent.[break][break]

to go from the hellish heat of groudon's sanctuary to the coolish air of annalise's bedroom feels jarring, though it's not as though the change in environment isn't expected. up until now, however, they've always met at his place, and if not there, then outside, but those were mostly for business.[break][break]

backropped by a frenzied kyogre, matias' hands weave to manipulate the essence of the continent. underneath them, the earth begins to shift to his will. quickly, a path forms out of the cave of origin, providing a relatively clear escape.[break][break]

whether his words can be heard over the comms remains to be seen, but he has never been a patient man. his charizard soars down, hurricane whipping incoming projectiles to keep the escape path safe.[break][break]

for a brief moment, he swears he can feel kyogre's starved gaze on him, but if he continues to defy his nature, then surely it can, too.[break][break]

the ground is the only thing that breaks as the earth spike proves too dull to pierce through the tough exterior of their orichalcum armor. what remains of his earth spike shatters, its pieces sinking back into the ground where they belong.[break][break]

gauntlets come loose. chaos soon follows.[break][break]

further words are cut off by the sudden formation of an earth barrier that shatters upon impact, its integrity crumbling against cleaving blows, but it serves its purpose in creating enough space to allow matias to propel himself back. his back hits the railing of the steps, knocking the wind along with a "tch," from him.[break][break]

his hand curls into his pocket to find a magical leaf only to remember he isn't the only knight anymore. virizion is away with lam logan, likely already knee-deep in the fight.[break][break]

"i don't have time for this!"[break][break]

he doesn't have to look off to the side to notice a sparkle of help approaching. guided by drought, a solar beam fires at the stranger.[break][break]

neither side could claim they walked away from this skirmish having claimed first blood. one leaves with their tail tucked between their sunless legs, one leaves further traumatized and anchored by self-doubt, and one leaves blinded by their own arrogance.[break][break]

matias doesn't bother making a move against the rocket boss' melting form. any strike would simply pass through as they aren't there to begin with; they are merely a nightmarish construct that should not exist in the first place.[break][break]

when he turns to annalise henderson, his lingering smirk fades in favor of concern.[break][break]

with his back turned to the action, matias doesn't see the psychic finishing off his hitmonlee, though if he had, he would not have minded. the fighting-type may be one of his strongest pokemon but its shadow-tainted aggression left unchecked would have been the death of them.[break][break]

as declan walsh's shadowy figure licks his side, matias finally turns with a scowl that only deepens. his response shifts to cater to annalise henderson, further shadowing the truth of primeval.[break][break]

with the rifling winds of hurricane, truth weaves itself in the brief privacy it creates.[break][break]

"do not forget, dec, that i gifted you sootopolis. all you have done up to this moment is because i have allowed you to. what you have is because of me. now watch as i take it back."[break][break]

he taps on the earpiece, and as his hands fall back down to his side, he turns to meet declan walsh's gaze with renewed conviction.[break][break]
