The Runeringus’ earthquake was more like a small tremor, but that was to be expected with how hard every single pokémon had worked during this race. Of course they were all exhausted!

Then again, it wasn’t like it would have mattered much if it had been a devastating attack, since having Levitate for an ability, the Hydreigon paid it no mind, instead continuing to bite down on the Grudge Pokémon. Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!

Gumball the Bagon wasn’t so lucky though. Facing much larger pokémon with much stronger attacks, tired and beaten down as she was, what happened after that last Shadow Ball was inevitable: she was thrown back again, this time, for the last time during the race. She fainted on the spot. Being left lying on the sand, unconscious.

The Dragonite wasn’t happy about this at all, and he was about to retaliate with a powerful attack, when suddenly it was announced that the race was now over...

The Runeringus has crossed the finish line… with the relentless Hydreigon still clinging to his back.

”Guess that’s your win… ‘Grats! Though, gotta say, that was way more brutal than a lot of the battles I’ve had here…”

Maybe pokémon who looked way too much like dragons but often weren’t and actual dragons had a thing or two in common, because it seemed like one to many of them were too stubborn and perhaps too proud to dodge the attack of an oncoming enemy.

The Hydreigon was to be counted among these; roaring in pain as sharp claws dug into her but refusing to move out of the way. No, she actually relentlessly continued to DRAGON RUSH forward, pushing the Charizard back even if there was no clear final goal to this attack – almost like her obstinate determination wouldn’t allow her to give up.

Vic knew this about his pokémon, of course, and it caused him to sigh in slight concern as he watched the battle. This was really going to be a mess, huh?

And that wasn’t even considering the fact that the Aegislash disappeared, its intent perhaps being obvious to anyone who wasn’t the Dragonite...

Pez didn’t see it coming, because Pez wasn’t the type of pokémon who was used to being aware of his surroundings in search for potential threats. It was only when the sharp waves of pain came that he became aware of the attack, and his immediate instinctive reaction was, of course, to fight back.

Swiftly swinging his whole body to the right, he turned to face his assailant, the motion being used to power up a punch as his claws were clenched into a blazing fist. Just like that, a left hook was aimed at the Aegislash. FIRE PUNCH.

There’s a strange familiarity to her, and the pinkette can’t quite figure out where it is that he has seen her before. He almost wants to ask…

She was a member of the Elite Four or something, right? Cool, no pressure…

He watched her pokémon, the acrobatics of a Dragon Dance always being an impressive sight. For now, he would let his own pokémon do their own thing, since neither Pez or Skor were too great at listening to him.

Surprisingly enough, the Dragonite was the one that held back though, rising in the air to perform a DRAGON DANCE of his own while the Hydreigon dash forward with a DRAGON RUSH, straight for the Charizard.

Moving fast, the Altaria somehow manages to intercept the Tauros’ attack, but waves of pain hit him the moment both pokémon collide, sending the bird rolling off dramatically before he is able to shake it all off and return to the skies.

On the ground, things aren’t looking too great either.

Fate (or rather the luck of the dice) is merciless and cruel, and it obviously doesn’t care for type advantages and all that.

So much for ‘the Hitmonlee could probably make quick work out of both those pokémon’, huh? The Miltank had easily avoided their attack.

Good thing the Altaria was there to aim a DRAGON BREATH at this same pokémon the moment he recovered from the recoil of his own attack.

How in the world was a sack raise more intense than most of the challenges Vic had had his pokémon take part in so far?!

Good thing that there were healers and a pokémon center at the ready, because they sure were going to need to stop by it when this race was done. At least it was almost done… right?!... Was it almost done?!

”Take it easy, guys! You’re almost at the finish line!” By ‘take it easy’ he actually meant ‘don’t get pissed and lose sight of the goal here because you want to attack Siobhan’s pokémon’. But it was a little too late for that, because most of these dragons definitely wanted to attack Siobhan’s pokémon. Just look at Primarina getting burned!

The little Bagon didn’t really, but apparently it was how the game worked, and small as she may have been, she definitely wasn’t going to sit and do nothing about all these attacks. Another hit came from the Spiritomb, as painful as the last, and this time, it was a struggle to get back on her feet, but she still shot a FLAMETHROWER at the Ghost Type.

This came combined with another THUNDER PUNCH on the Dragonite’s part.

All this while the Hydreigon had caught up to the Runeringus with her Dragon Rush, then jumping onto him with yet another CRUNCH.

Today on ‘How much can we bend Vic's personal rule of not doing any traditional battles for the sake of getting rewards’:

The sun shone at Slateport beach, the Wingull cried up above, and down on the sand, Vic had somehow ended up signing up for a double battle?! Okay, so, this hadn’t been the original plan, but it was too late to back down now, right? Plus, maybe it would be good to get his new pokémon some actual battle experience, and if we want to get technical, a double battle wasn’t exactly the most traditional battling method out there...

With an unwavering smile, he stood at one end of the arena, two pokéballs being brought out from his pocket and from them soon being summoned two dragons. The first, his Dragonite, because of course it wouldn’t want to miss a chance to battle even if it had never been trained for that. The second, his Hydreigon, who was usually more preoccupied in biting down on everything in sight.

It could be said that battle had a very broad definition when it came to the Hoenn Star Tournament. All over Slateport beach, people took part in all sorts of strange challenges and performed crazy tasks, and this was no different when speaking of those who favoured water as their battleground.

Near the beach, above the gentle waves of the low tide, a floating platform had been set up, as if a square frame over a natural underwater arena. A trainer stood at each of the four corners, a pokémon in the water nearby. This, unlike many others, was not that strange of a challenge, but experience was a great teacher, and experience taught Vic that things like these could turn to chaos way too easily...

Right before the battle began, he looked to his left, noticing a boy in shorts and a sunhat who for some reason was carrying with him a bug net. Before him, in the water, a small Wimpod somehow swam in circles, and not that far from it there sat a tired-looking Slowpoke. Wait… two Slowpoke?! No, a Slowpoke and a man fully decked out in pink Slowpoke merch (even including a silly hat and a tail).

That was… a bit weird.

Didn’t he get hot wearing all that in this weather?!

Too bad that Vic was so distracted by the sight of the Poké Maniac that he didn’t notice that no other than FERNANDO SILPH was his last opponent.

The Runeringus’ swing worked exactly as intended, for it took the Hydreigon by surprise and sent her a few metres back on her path. Sadly for the Primarina, this also had the unintended effect of making Skor easily avoid the Moonblast, but at least she was no longer crunching down on anything, right? For now.

Quick to recover, she headed straight back for the Runeringus, this time with quick DRAGON RUSH. She was a pokémon on a mission, and that mission was to bite that annoying and weird rock, everything else around her being ignored.

If she hadn’t ignored it, she would have seen the little Bagon being once again hit by Shadow Ball, this time rolling back on the sand and almost falling out of his sack. The Dragonite did see it though, and he didn’t appreciate it much. He may have still been confused, but he gladly threw a left hook at the Spiritomb with a roaring THUNDER PUNCH.

Honestly, it was a miracle that the Bagon hadn’t fainted just yet, but she sure was in no condition to keep headbutting pokémon left and right, so instead she aimed a FLAMETHROWER at the Primarina. Not very effective, but who knows, maybe it would burn her hair and annoy her or something...

The Samurott stared at the machine after his attack was done and over with, as if he expected it to break or to at least do something in response to it. Hey, it had been a pretty good attack, hadn’t it?!

Sadly, much alike the Druddigon and Bisharp before him, all he got was a ’meh’ on the screen, the old pokémon narrowing his eyes at this before watching an eager Medicham try her luck with a High Jump Kick…

”Huh… Maybe it’s looking for a specific type of move or something?” Vic said, because of course his immediate thought wouldn’t be that this thing was rigged to make them feel as if they had failed no matter how good they did. He called back a Samurott, in his place releasing a small, squishy, Goomy.

”Gummy, how about you throw an attack at that thing? Anything you want!” He was kind to the little one, allowing her to take her time. After all, the Summer heat didn’t quite agree with Goomy’s constitution, and that’s why he had so far been reluctant to let her out of her pokéball to play in the sand.

It was then when he turned to look at the man who was technically his boss, a bright smile illuminating his expression when being offered a snow cone. ”That’d be awesome, thanks!”

And while Vic was distracted with talking to Lars, the Goomy jumped as if a bouncing ball, quite literally using her whole body to slam against her target despite being so very small.

Looking in the direction Matias pointed towards, Vic watches both the Tauros and the Miltank. The Hitmonlee could probably make quick work out of both those pokémon, fighting type as he is, but they also have no idea what else their opponents had brought with them...

”We could split it; distract them while Cotton here flies overhead and grabs the flag…” Of course, he means the Altaria who now circled over them.

”...Though, I guess that wouldn’t be as fun, huh?”

Too bad that while they’re distracted discussing all this, the Tauros charges forward at top speed, aiming a Giga Impact towards them. Apparently, this pokémon also wasn’t much for playing defense.

”Oh… Shit.” In a split second, without waiting for a command, the Altaria attempted to intercept with Take Down.

It hit it with a powerful strike, and already sensing that Candy Cane wouldn’t be too happy about that, he called the Druddigon back to her pokéball before she decided to start a fight.

Seriously?! Just how hard would they need to hit it to impress this thing?!

Out of curiosity, he turned to look for the Bisharp’s trainer, his gaze then finding no other than one of the Head Rangers.

”Oh...Hey. Tough luck, huh?” He laughed lightly, bringing out a second pokéball.

This time, it was his Samurott, who shot a highly pressurized HYDRO PUMP at the device without need for any instruction from its trainer.
