She seems energetic, to say the least, but Mars simply smiles with unwavering composure, and when her attention turns to the elegant feline, it’s with a prusten that Dollar greets her – the sound of Dollar’s chuffing low and rumbling.

It gets a chuckle out of Mars.

”Ha. Thank you, Dollar likes being praised.” A hand reaches to scratch behind one of Dollar’s round ears. He’s larger than most Persian, reaching Mars’ waistline at its withers. ”Persian are a great species, though your Beedrill is quite impressive as well.”

Those same round feline ears twitch when hearing a sound coming from nearby, and the large cat’s crimson eyes fix on a Seedot that falls from a tree. Mars considers for a second before whistling one short note. A non-verbal command. When it’s given, Dollar runs, taking the liberty to go “play” with the Acorn Pokémon. Mars would call it enrichment.

Some people would not expect a man like him to wander the streets of Slateport’s outskirts, and Mars wouldn’t blame them for it. He’s dressed casually tonight, or as casually as it gets for Mars, which is usually more along the lines of business casual.

Even his choice in companion for tonight is a rather subtle one: an Umbreon that walks calmly by his side, keeping up the pace with ease…. Until the sound of a Murkrow’s cawing gets her attention, at least.

Her pointed ears perk up, and after being given confirmation by her trainer, she wanders forward with curiosity, meeting the man and his bird in the light of the lamppost.

”Sorry about that. Ephyra is a curious one.” Mars says as the only explanation, giving a shrug and a smirk when approaching.

It’s the cawing of a Murkrow that alerts them to its presence, and Mars watches as the black appendages on the Riolu’s head twitch. He had done some research on the species when agreeing to Pryde’s request, and thanks to that he had learned that it’s thanks to auras that Ajax can probably already sense the bird’s location.

Out of curiosity, he decides to test it out.
[break][break]
One short note is whistled, and there and then, the Riolu gathers energy in its paws before shooting LIGHT OF RUIN straight in the Murkrow’s direction. It cuts right through a tree's branches, causing the bird to fall to the ground.

The Riolu tries to hide the way it winces at the recoil, but Mars notices it all the same, and a piece of a Rage Candy Bar is tossed its way.

”Good.”

He then throws a Safari Ball at the Murkrow.

Golden eyes falling upon cobalt ones when Barnaby gives his response. A count of two passes and Mars finally laughs – a fleeting yet honest sound that is carried away by the breeze of Route 111.

An arm drapes itself around Barnaby’s shoulders as if it were the most natural thing to do, and when pulling him closer, a chaste kiss is place upon his cheek before an offer is whispered in a sultry tone:

He leaves the implications of that up to Barnaby, merely giving him a smirk before pulling away due to the sudden appearance of a Tyrunt. A whistled note alerts the Zeraora that had wandered off ahead, and in a flash of light, it’s within seconds that POWER-UP PUNCH meets its mark… and then again and again.

Mars chucks a Luxury Ball towards the fallen dinosaur.

”Lycanroc. That’s the price.”

There is a certain sense of reassurance in knowing that he’s not alone in this; that while others may have their own goals and motivations, Gavin understands his way of thinking. Mars had always told himself he didn’t need anyone else, that he could fight all of these battles alone, but he knows that much isn’t true at all. He had joined Team Rocket for their resources, to gain allies, and in the end he had gained much more.

Not all that far from where Raziel Beckett’s pokemon is, an Eelektross swims upstream. It’s the same one Mars had caught when a swarm of them had appeared a few months back, the emerald colouration of its skin making it difficult to see from the surface.

Mars himself walks near the water, surrounded by the lush trees and verdant grass of Route 110. When he spots the ranger, he pauses, recognizing him right away.

”Kingsman.” P.O.G Bank’s CEO has nothing against Razz, of course. He has no reason not to smile and be amiable. So, it’s exactly what he does, and the Persian by his side even gives a prusten in greeting.

When the first pokémon crosses their path, the small fighting-type tenses up, even if it’s no more than a Purrloin that clearly cares little about their presence and is much more preoccupied with the tree that stands nearby. Still, the Riolu doesn’t leave his side, its yellow gaze remaining fixed on the cat.

Mars clicks his tongue, and the moment he does, the Riolu changes forward, too fast for the cat to avoid. He opts for a physical attack: a FORCE PALM that pushes the wild Purrloin back. It hisses, standing defensively with its hackles raised, but in the end, the battle is a short one.

Gavin’s response earns him a slight smile, one that does not reach Mars’ golden eyes. There it is again. That word. Survive. Sometimes, Mars feels as if the word itself exists just to haunt him.

It also reminds him of a very important fact.

He stands straight, raising his glass to look at its clear content. ”Just surviving has never suited me.”

Something he has admitted to many times before, but this time the smile remains, and those fires that define him burn in his gaze.

”But I want peace for this family of ours… and I’ll conquer anything that stands in the way of it.”

It’s as simple as that, isn’t it? All of the people who matter to him are in Team Rocket, so the world needs to become a place where Team Rocket can have peace, and the only way for that to happen is for them to conquer everything. Peace through war. It’s the only way Mars knows. There have never been any alternatives to war. It is who he is, after all.
