He hasn’t spent a lot of time training Aetna himself, so it’s no surprise when she does wander too far ahead. Mars doesn’t stop her after the first warning; she should know better.

An eventual startled yelp tells him that she has learned.

The cause? The ground beneath her paws; sand that shifts and threatens to bury her in its depths. A Palossand. Something which, of course, the young Quilava doesn’t realise in her distress.

”Aetna.” Her name is spoken to call to her attention, but the moment she looks at him, he clicks his tongue. The command to attack. She doesn’t hesitate in response. A FLAMETHROWER is shot, fire swirling and burning the fallen leaves beneath which hides the Palossand.

Mars gives no commands from that point on, he just watches her deal with the wild pokémon – judging.

On one of the screens atop of the adorned desk, a glossary was being displayed. There were almost a hundred and fifty terms; most of them scientific in nature, yet some referencing Pokémon species and locations both from this world and extradimensional. He knew them all without a need to look at them.

The Unown Report had not been updated.
[break][break]
He had no need to look at the screen to know that much to be true, nor at the Rotom phone it was synced with. Still, it confirmed what his mind had already been all too aware of: ever since the returned from The Cloud, the Unown Report had gone silent.

What did this mean?
[break][break]
Had the DRK TRIAD gotten what they desired out of them? Had they fulfilled the Unown Report’s true purpose? Had it finally been completed?
[break][break]
Or, were the Unown truly in control as he had suspected? Had they had their own purpose for it? Had it been fulfilled? Did it have to do with what they had done to him?
[break][break]
”It really would help if you would actually form sentences instead of just using all these random words, you know?” An eyebrow was quirked then, amber eyes fixing on the Unown-! that had stayed close to him ever since they met in a different dimension. In its dark gaze, Mars saw himself: tired in a way he never allowed the world to see him. The Unown saw, and through their eyes, Mars saw everything too. He still wasn’t quite used to it.

Anistar, the Unown-!, gave no response, but in his mind, the last entry added to the Unown Report before perpetual silence was whispered in passing:

THE UNOWN REPORT

A cellphone APPLICATION created by an organization referred to as "DRK TRIAD". Those with access to this application are able to the scan Unown into its database.

Each unique Unown scanned reveals a new entry corresponding to its form, these are generally scientific terms (alphabetical forms), the names of certain Pokémon species (question mark form), or locations (exclamation mark form). There are certain exceptions to this rule.

The Unown Report's true purpose remains UNKNOWN. Some of its entries have hinted at "anomalous events" before they occur (e.g., the spread of Pokérus-Y that occurred back in March 2022)

ACQUISITION
[break][break]

In August 2021 two restaurants by the names of Baristacats and Bone Appetit organized a COOK-OFF at Slateport Beach, recruiting the help of volunteers. Bone Appetit and the Slurpuff referred to as "Branes" were victorious. At the end of the event a few individuals received what was referred to as "mysterious devices", regardless of which establishment they may have supported. No explanations were given in regards to the devices or the reasons for their distribution.

These devices functioned similarly to Pokédexes, but when extracting the chip within them, those in their possession gained access to the Unown Report application.

The name of the owner of these establishments remains unknown. He was last seen in March 2022 at FLEUR TEA ATELIER, in company of the Slurpuff "Branes". He refused to answer any questions and acted as if he did not recognize even those who had previously encountered him at the restaurants.

Everything points to this individual being a member of the DRK TRIAD, despite lacking their characteristic silver hair.

KNOWN USES
[break][break]
Terminology present as "entries" in the Unown Report has been of use in various instances where the DRK TRIAD is known or suspected to have been directly involved. Including but likely not limited to:[break][break]

Sealing the dimensional rifts that appeared at the MOSSDEEP SPACE CENTER'S STAR SOIRÉE. In order to do this, the Unown in possession of those with access to the Unown Report aligned themselves with wild Unown present at the time, spelling out certain entries.
Unlocking the barrier (dimensional membrane) that blocked Team Rocket's access to the INTERIOR OF THE TREE OF LIFE during their expedition back in November 2021.
Creating an UNOWN PORTAL back to this dimension from the universe existing within the Tree of Life.
Answering the crossword created by the so-called FATHER WINTER. A suspected member of the DRK TRIAD who later invited those who gave the correct response to meet him in Granite Cave under the pretence of "fulfilling their wishes". All accounts speak of being sent to alternate dimensions and having to fight for their lives in order to return to this dimension.

Something CHANGED after I commanded the Unown to create the portal that brought us back from within the Tree of Life. The best way I can describe it is as if the whole Unown Report was etched into my mind.

I became able to perfectly remember every entry in it, even those revealed long after this event. I know which Unown is responsible for each entry. I can constantly see them in my head.

All this was heightened after visiting The Cloud.

Water easily deals with the vulpine fire type, leaving it no time to retaliate before finding itself caught in a Safari Ball’s confines. It all happens quickly. Efficiently. After all, Mars has never been a fan of wasting time.

This leaves him with just one Safari Ball and a long way to the next exit.

That would be a bit of a dilemma if it weren’t for the fact that distances like those have come to matter little to Mars.

And so, when he spots a Shuppet floating nearby and realises that he’s yet to catch an individual of its species, a choice is made all too easily.

All it takes is one click of his tongue for the Samurott’s CEASELESS EDGE to cut through the ghost, and once it has been caught and Odysseus has been returned to his own pokéball, the banker disappears as well.

The scent of morning dew still fills the air, the bird pokémon sing their first songs of the day, and the road between Oldale and Littleroot – the only road to Littleroot – lies empty. Or, well, almost empty.

Pokémon aside, a man calmly walks to the isolated town in an all too elegant suit – the kind of attire that isn’t usually worn at farmlands like this one. By his side, an equally elegant Persian walks; large in size, of shimmering coat, and with movements that are nothing short of regal. Dollar, his favourite among all of his cats.

They say that there’s a grain of truth in every joke, and this is the saying Mars finds himself thinking of when hearing Kepler’s response. They had been right at one point or another when throwing theories around and that sense of self-satisfaction may be one of the only silver linings about this whole mess Hoenn is caught up in.

Directly north of Mauville City lies Route 111, and to those privileged enough to know the heights of Mauville Hills, the view that is the desert’s expanse is a familiar one. It had been such a view that had prompted this “hike”.

It’s not at the desert itself that they stand, of course, but the area right outside of Mauville itself – where lush greens meet stone and are yet to fade into the endless sands that take over pass the intersection with Route 112. Mount Chimney rises up ahead, a thin pillar of smoke being steadily released by the volcano on this day. It’s a nice autumn day.

”So, what are we looking for, specifically?” Mars asks the man by his side, an eyebrow being raised while a playful smirk tugs at his lips. ”And what do I get if I find it?”

What is it about Meteor Falls that always seems to draw people back into the depths of its cavern? Is it the hope of finding one of the meteors that are its namesake, scattered amongst rock even after all these centuries? Is it the falls themselves, those powerful rapids of a flow that echoes endlessly beneath the earth? Or, is it perhaps something else?

Mars knows his own answer to that question. Meteor Falls had first appeared in the Unown Report months ago. He had visited the falls then and summoned fifty Unown to ask about their importance, and instead of being given a direct answer, he was given its name again… along with those of ten other places.

He has visited the falls frequently ever since then.

Today, he does so by the side of the Unown-! he first brought here with him all those months ago, the same Unown-! he met in a different dimension. It hovers by his side; staying close while Mars crosses one of the bridges that rise over the rapids.

He avoids the more touristic sections of the falls, and he certainly doesn’t expect to run into anyone…
