Reluctantly, grudgingly, and all too unenthusiastically, Ceri had made the executive decision to spend a few hours of precious free time on a trek through Hoenn’s ever well-travelled Route 116.

Why, you ask? Does she like this sort of thing? Is she the sort of person who puts ‘hiking’ on her Tinder bio and accompanies that with aesthetic pictures in questionable poses taken up in some mountain trail?

Not really, even if she sure is dressed for it. Hence the ‘reluctantly, grudgingly, and all too unenthusiastically’ part of this.

So, like, apparently – and to Ceri this was one hell of a wild revelation – having a whole bunch of pokémon of just one or two types may not be the greatest idea out there. Crazy, right? Now, in her defence, she has never considered herself a pokémon trainer and her battle experience is minimal. She doesn’t care for those sorts of things, but it seems as if ‘not caring’ is a luxury she cannot afford lately. Thus, here she is!

A sound all too common of Ceri Glynn is the one she makes when she finds herself to be successful at something. One step, two steps, three steps, and on they go through their path, apparently reaching no exit or dead end.

What they find instead are dandelion spores being carried by breeze, that smile of hers becoming even brighter and more gleeful at the sight of the Jumpluff.

Naturally, she resists the urge for the sake of Elisabeth Fiorelli’s pokémon, but she does try to gently and lovingly pinch its cheeks if the Jumpluff were to allow her to do so. It’s then that she grabs the box.

”Alright! Onwards and upwards and all that! ” Ceri exclaims, full of motivation, and when she stands before her next choice, she simply steps forward without hesitation…

What does that mean, when speaking of an organism that seems capable of fusing with Killian Decker’s body down to a microscopic level and then stop doing so at will?

Or, hell, I’d hope it is, because the implications of communication if it’s not are–…Well, better not to stay stuck on that point for now.” It would surely say a lot about the things Deoxys might be doing to the Rocket admin’s body, and the things it might be doing are already concerning enough as is. Ceri may be fascinated, but no one said that fascination is not morbid.

”My main worry after seeing… that–” She vaguely gestures towards his arm, meaning the way it had changed to become Deoxys’ eye. Pretty damn cool, but also fucked up. Didn’t that hurt? Probably not the best way to put it if she didn’t mean to worry the man with a literal pokémon living inside him, but hey, Ceri sure isn’t here to pretend she's certain when they still have no idea what's actually going on, nor to be anyone’s nurse. Rarely do her studies require empathy, okay?!

”Mmm... I'd love to know what was going on there, so I’d say starting with a tissue sample might be best! A case could have been made for how necessary it was for members of a criminal organisation to be battle-ready because of how likely it was that they would end up finding themselves in dangerous situations. That was all good and true, and surely most of Team Rocket’s members would have agreed without hesitation. Ceri would have too, but even if she would have, the fact of the matter was that her actual combat experience was… well… close to zero.

Which was why, admittedly, Elisabeth Fiorelli praise came as a surprise.

So it was that, for what remained of their journey, Elisabeth would have found herself in the position of hearing all about Vileplume spores, no scientific jargon spared and no consideration for if the woman actually wished to hear all of this or not. At least it was a short trip, and just like that, their mission found itself complete.

You know how when someone starts studying anything that’s even slightly technologically-inclined, every single older person they know seems to suddenly think they’re an I.T. expert who will fix their computer free of charge? Well, Ceri has had that problem from the moment she first mentioned Biotechnology, but she also has a very similar one…

See, a Biology major for a Pokémon Behaviour Expert does not make, and the same can be said for a Toxicologist. Does she know a lot about pokémon behaviour? Yes, kind of, but that’s mostly because she was obsessed with watching documentaries about those things as a kid, and also thanks to her mum and her uncle.

Does she know why the Pangoro at this small ranch near Fortree won’t do the devil’s tango and produce deceptively cute Pancham babies?

Well, if she had to take a guess, it’s probably because Pangoro are silly, have a really short breeding season and an even smaller window to actual get the deed done, tend to be more interested in fighting than making friends, and are apparently really against the survival of their own species. But, of course, that’s just her guess, and she sure has no idea how to encourage them.

Did she tell that to the ranch owners when they called asking for her help? Yes. Did they insist? Yes. Did she feel guilty because they were friends with her mother? Also yes.

So, she shows up at the ranch, but instead of trying to solve all this on her own, Ceri does what she does best and makes the smart choice. Which of course, in this case, is to contact the local ranger HQ and ask them to send someone to help.
