"You mean you'll be tired and tripping over rocks. Mr. Big Foot."

She is quiet only for a moment for another drag. Eventually, however, she passes it to him if he'd take it.

"With the speed this guy's been running, I find it hard to believe he's human."

With the full moon overhead, their skin is washed out and pale. It is dark, yes, but not nearly as impossibly black as it should have been. It helped the sun was still sinking, so they were seeing based on the sliver of daylight that yet remained.

"All I'm saying is you're impossible to miss, even in the dark."

But she rolls her eyes and turns around. She is sort of a bystander or outside man to his operation. Whatever he says goes, and she doesn't care all that much.

"I'm hungry, anyway."

Surprisingly, the temperature does begin to drop the longer the night sets in. It subconsciously curls its cold little fingers against exposed skin, encouraging her to pull her jacket tighter. She zips it up, clumsy fingers pulling at the draw. She exhales, breath frosty, glancing up to side-eye her partner.

"Aww.. he cares about me."

She unzips the front of her jacket again, fishing for a cigarette. After a couple of attempts to come up with a flame, the end is lit and she draws in the warmth right to her core. This time, her exhale is full of smoke.

"Y'know if we stop, that guy we're looking for might not."

Her own feet scuff through the leaf pile, kicking it up in frustration. For all of their hard work outside in the elements, they hadn't found anything of use.

Remi lets her eyes wander for a moment, lingering on the curve of his lips where he smirks and hisses, the shake of his head as he realizes she means no harm.

She falls off from the lip of his cowboy hat and settles on his eyes once more, amusement reflecting in her own dark and stormy gaze. The woman chuckles at his apparent confusion and it makes her teasing all the more fruitful.

"It could be.. whatever you'd like it to be, boss."

And there it was again, that subtle attempt at flirtation, left up in the air for the man to reach for and acknowledge if he so chose. But would he? He scrutinizes her now, she can see, analyzing the lines in her face for something. What was it that he was looking for? Would he find it?

"Or we could leave this as strictly business."

And no pleasure.

"Yikes.. jealousy is not a good colour on you."

She slides her attention over to KING WAYLAND, a mean smirk playing across her features. It broadens as a result of Lulu Flint's encouraging, quite enjoying the fact that the tequila woman was joining in on the joke readily.

Theo too, even though he was sort of the butt end of her joke.

"Your butt ain't bad either, I guess."

And, while he scans her Unown, she helps herself to a glance. She meets his gaze briefly, only to follow it over her own shoulder to the rockets he's referring to.

"I don't know why, everyone seems pretty happy-go-lucky to throw themselves into the whomping willows."

That had to be a first, honestly. Hearing a man say they'd like to finish 'faster'.

He might be able to hear her laughing over the radio.

"Well. Alright then."

However, as she approaches the scene of their in-progress crime, Remi chooses to pursue the Gardevoir they're meant to be rounding up. Seeing as, after all, that is the entire point of their operation.

And so, when she notes the Delphox leading those merry little ladies astray, well.. That just cannot be.

"Get in there, Skuntank!"

The Pokemon bounds forward a few paces before twisting quickly, tail shivering, as stinky, sticky TOXIC sludge sprays from its butthole, splashing against every surface.

Remi does her best to mask the shiver that trickles down her spine, that anticipation, that familiar feeling of longing that she had, for so long, left buried.

But it comes back all at once as his hand smooths against her lower back to guide her ahead. They are walking toward the gardens, but all she can think about is how uncomfortably easy it is to distract herself from her grief by focusing on the warmth of his hand.

This was wrong.

"Hm."

Slowly, as if cold, she crosses her arms over her chest and slows her pace just enough that his hand feels firmer, pushing her.

"I never thought you would ever leave Sinnoh."

A walk. Right, because a walk would solve all of her problems.

But she relents, because against her better judgement he brings her peace. Seeing him today had made the world stop spinning even if only for a moment. It was jarring, yes, and unexpected. And she knew that indulging in his company was wrong, but when had she ever done what was right?

"Okay."

She pulls her cheek away from his, hesitating as her nose brushing against him. But she pulls herself to her feet and steps away from him, breathing in one last shaky breath to still her nerves. She swallows, lips dry, to glance around her.

The more he defends himself, the wider her smirk grows. Eventually, she leans one elbow against the bar and tilts her head to look at him. Something akin to predatory fondness plants a seed somewhere behind her searching gaze.

And his sternness doesn't phase her in the slightest. In fact, it only encourages her. She takes another sip, sucks her bottom lip, and raises a brow.

"I never said it wasn't a nice hat."

Remi follows his gaze slightly as he buries himself in his glass to mutter one last defensive retort. She chuckles, a quiet noise as she sets her own glass down.

"Well good, 'cause I wanted to know if you'd go with me sometime."

She can't help but laugh at the way he tries to hide his squirming. She knows damn well he isn't supposed to be here, and had no intention of showing up. He was a lost rabbit that had found his way into a den of wolves. Thankfully, their hunger had already ben sated- but that didn't mean they couldn't play.

"For security purposes, right."

He mentions Tyranitar, and she glances to the side.

"Larvitar, you mean like this one here?"

It's even shiny. What he doesn't know is that it isn't for sale, and it's one of her own Pokemon kept in her personal collection. But the game was that much more fun when the opponent was confused.

"Uh-huh... better run quickly, then!"

And, should he run off, she wouldn't chase him. Instead, she would laugh under her breath and wave him off before rejoining her band of merry thieves.

She's felt that sort of weird disturbance. It wasn't an earthquake, but a Pokemon. This time though, the influence it has on the tunnel is much more intense than the one she'd felt before. Whatever it was, was either bigger, or closer to them.

Turns out it's both.

And somehow, this guy here just says 'subdue it' and his Pokemon just does it. A giant fucking Steelix pops out of the tunnel to devour them both and his balls are so huge he just says 'yeah thats fine'.

Remi blinks, taken aback by the entire situation and honestly, probably a little turned on. It's not every day someone flexes that hard, okay?

"Boss' orders, huh?"

She has to wonder who this boss might be, or what it is this guy even does. She tilts her head, unsure what to make of him. He's certainly interesting.

"Like I said, I'm just visiting."

"Is that right? Has the big bad wolf gone soft on me?"

Her hand slows, and she tilts her chin up to look at him. She presents an amused grin, showing teeth.

Heavy footsteps draw her in. She presses her shoulder against the wall, peeking around the corner slowly to find the hulking Haxorus making its way forward. It doesn't appear to have noticed her yet, which means this is her opportunity.

Two pokeballs fall from her fingertips, and two Sneasel launch forward. They seem to blend into the shadows that peel back from the rocky walls, and they spring upon the immense dragon without fear.

Unlike Remi, who feels as though the air has been vacuumed right out of her chest.

Fortunately, her Pokemon are able to operate even without her direct instruction. And, they are well-versed in the handling of Pokemon much stronger and much larger than themselves. Built for speed and stealth, their combined icy influence freezes the Haxorus just enough to slow it down.

And then they go for the kill, so to speak. With a groan, the Haxorus goes down, and Remi steps forward finally to face her fears (what fear, the Pokemon is unconscious?) and capture it.

"I like the way you think, girlfriend."

It was her solution to pretty much every problem she's ever had, and would be the solution for every single one to come.

Remi allows the other woman some space, choosing to hang back and collect the rest of the pokeballs. When she does eventually join her, she has a cigarette between her lips and a lighter popped open.

"Complete shit."

It finally lights and she draws in the smoke.
