The crowd seemed to be getting tired of Josh Devlin’s performance, or perhaps the Master of Faster had simply not brought his A-game tonight. Sadly, his throbbing thighs were the only trophy he would come home with.

Things picked up again with Noel Parker’s closing act, the spectacular combination of Earth Power and Seed Flare earning a round of applause. “Well done, little Shaymin! I knew you were TOUGHER than you look!”

kyle lopez’s Rampardos showed a bit of its dark side, using one of those Shadow moves that are so rarely seen nowadays. Watching a fake city fall victim to the mad kaiju’s wrath, Andrea thanked the stars that Fallarbor Town did not have Dynamax access.

El Sunderland and their big ol’ turtle shook things up… literally. Once the tremors had subsided, the eccentric hostess howled with childlike glee. “Woooo! Now that was TOUGH! That Earthquake was even better than the last!”

Elise Calcifet made one last statement about the Galarian spirit, her loyal ghost backing her up with a brilliant display of twinkles and sparkles. The children in the audience loved it. “That was dazzling, alright! But is it TOUGH? We’ll have to wait and see!”

Former councilwoman Elinor Anderson stuck to the traditional definition of TOUGHNESS, having Gron obliterate a bunch of boulders again. “Wow, an Aggron using a Water-type move! Now that’s something you don’t see every day!”

As for Alexei Ivanov, his usage of Mega Evolution certainly left an impression. “Here’s an educational fact: When Charizard Mega Evolves using a Charizardite X, it turns into a Dragon type! RAWR~!” The dragon fanatic roared in excitement.

oscar clayton and Robbie redeemed themselves for the travesty that happened in the first round. Alas, it wasn’t enough to spare them from placing second-to-last, but the crowd nonetheless cheered on the valiant samurai who slayed the evil dragon.

Seemingly following in the Fortree Gym Leader’s footsteps, mint frost also utilized Mega Evolution for his closing act, showing off Bucatini’s stalwart defense. “Our bonds are the shield that Protects our beloved region! Well done, you two!”

Finally, luka chêne took the stage one last time in order to deliver an inspiring speech where she entrusted Hoenn’s future to the civilians watching the show. In an age of avatars and gods, average ordinary people could be heroes in their own way.

Silence fell in the auditorium, everyone waiting with bated breath to hear the results. Andrea walked to the center of the stage, geta echoing against the hard, wooden floor.

“I’ve spoken with the judges, and… for the second year in a row, our TOUKON TOUGH CONTEST winner is Alexei Ivanov and Ravana the Charizard!” The young PokéManiac triumphantly announced, flourishing her flowing, elegant kimono. “Congratulations, everyone! Nothing else needs to be said! Our wonderful contestants have spoken with their words and their TOUGH performances! We all have TOUKON!”

Euphoric cheers erupted from the crowd, as they honored winners and losers alike with a standing ovation that went on for several minutes.

"Huh? Gouging Fire?" A confused Andrea side-glanced the younger girl. "No, his name is Enteisaurus."

Their fight against the bloodthirsty Walking Wake ended abruptly as they transitioned into the next simulated scenario. The drastic drop in temperature between the tropical jungle and the frigid Crown Tundra made the dragon fanatic shiver. "Brrrr... I hate it when this happens."

The helpful NPC provided exposition about how their small village was being terrorized by a frosty steed, and lo and behold Glastrier showed up. Taming the rampaging, icy stallion was theoretically possible, but Andrea recalled how doing so had caused Josh Devlin to become eternally bound to it. She could not let the same thing happen to Cass.

"We're gonna have to kill it... It's okay, this is just a simulation..." The PokéManiac dolefully said, more so trying to convince herself that this was the right thing to do. Even if it was, she felt awful about it.

Enteisaurus set up a Sunny Day, while Chomper went straight for the kill, attempting to bite into the horse's neck with his Fire Fang.

By this point, Andrea was basically doing a ranger's job with none of the benefits, patrolling the whole region for any new sightings of the Toxic Chain and critters affected by it--a poisonous patrol, if you will.

Constantly being on the move had finally taken its toll, or perhaps it was something else more insidious. As the young PokéManiac was about to save a pair of Wurmple trapped in a spider's web, she suddenly felt nauseous and light-headed, causing her to stumble. "Ugh... I don't feel so good..."

Chomper swooped in to her rescue, grabbing the sickly girl and flying off before the possessed Ariados could get either of them.

In this primal world, survival of the fittest was in full effect. A more feral and monstrous-looking Suicune had devoured the poor puffball, and was now looking to make a snack out of the humans as well.

"W-Walking Wake?! W-what's it doing here?!" Andrea blurted out in shock, before tossing a ball into the air. "Stay behind me, Cass! Go, Enteisaurus!"

A gargantuan beast burst out of the ball, bearing an uncanny resemblance to the legendary beast of fire and volcanoes. Coating its massive headpiece in flames, the Gouging Fire created a Burning Bulwark to keep its fellow Paradox Pokémon at bay.

"Chomper, get ready to attack!" The dragon-costumed woman instructed her Hydreigon, who nodded with all three of its heads, getting Worked Up in preparation.

"Nice to meet you, Charles!" Andrea jovially waved at the big-headed hare, before turning back to Elise with a puzzled look. "So wait... Is this Calyrex different from the Calyrex under the tree? How many Calyrexes are there?"

Soon, a swarm of Poipole and Naganadel descended towards the two women, interrupting their chit-chat. Business as usual, really, since Eternatus was known by this point to use the local wildlife as its own personal guard.

"Mecha-Chomper, help Chomper dispatch them!" The draconic cosplayer exclaimed, sending out an Iron Jugulis that whirred to life upon entering the field, letting out a piercing Metal Sound from its three artificial heads.

Her signature Hydreigon picked off the hostile Ultra Beasts one by one with an Outrage, while its mechanical counterpart assisted by firing multiple Dragon Pulses. Oftentimes, the best defense was a good offense.

Despite having promised each other a battle, the strange duo decided to put that on hold in order to explore the area. They were young and had all the time in the world, so why rush things, right?

Once again, Andrea was clad in her Sygna Suit that made her look like a humanoid Hydreigon. She was the more overdressed of the two, seeing how her traveling companion was not even wearing a shirt to hide his Herculean physique. Did he ever get cold?

Chomper the Hydreigon was part of their little entourage, along with Finn the Garchomp, who used his sharp claws to crush any boulders that blocked the path ahead.

"Well, I don't live here like you do, but I've definitely been here a lot." The dragon-costumed woman responded to Draco, while walking alongside him. Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks, her pupils narrowing like reptilian slits. "We have company..."

An unlikely alliance was made. Good. Now the three of them needed to sit down, discuss their strategy, carefully come up with a plan, and...

Scratch that. The flamboyant cosplayer had already mounted her primal-looking Entei, and charged straight into enemy territory, yelling her lungs out in an echoing Dragon Cheer.

"EVERYONE! ATTACK! FOR HOENN!!"

The Gouging Fire's massive headpiece was coated in flames, creating a Burning Bulwark against the swarms of hostile Unown that rushed towards them.

Meanwhile, Andrea's signature green-scaled Hydreigon soared high above the battlefield, carpet bombing the DRK Triad outpost with successive Draco Meteors.

The Toxic Chain infestation was getting worse; now even Ultra Beasts were affected! Opting to fight fire with fire, Andrea sent out her Buzzwole to avenge his fallen brethren from the Ultra Desert. "Go, Buzz-Buzz! Hit 'em with your Superpower!"

Affected by the sweet pheromones in the air, the bodybuilding mosquito ignored his trainer's orders. Instead, he started flexing his bulging arms and juicy pecs in an attempt to impress the female-coded Pheromosa.

The Pheromosa was having none of that, delivering a mean kick in Buzz-Buzz's midsection. The feminine roach proceeded to mercilessly stomp on him with its pointy, stiletto-like feet. "Oh no! Buzz-Buzz, get outta there!" Andrea cried out.

Despite the abuse, the Buzzwole's eyes had turned into hearts. It seemed almost as if he was... enjoying this?!

On the other hand, there were some people who were lured into the Ultra Sea not by the treasures it held, but by their own thirst for knowledge. Andrea was among those people. With her Sygna Suit and her ample experience traversing the various wilds, this was like a walk in the park. However, as soon as they reached the glowing, paranoia-inducing Eternatus Core, all bets were off.

"Take my hand, Elise. It's gonna be easier to keep our cool if we stick together." The Hydreigon cosplayer offered a sock puppet of a hand to the Galarian princess... who seemed to have some rather interesting company.

"By the way, when were you gonna tell me about your new friend?" The dragon-costumed girl casually asked, using small talk as a mental shield against the alien world's encroaching insanity.

Andrea did not need to ride the simulation's Cyclizar, because she had brought her own. Gia had cemented her value as a Ride Pokémon after passing Josh Devlin's Gym challenge with flying colors.

Who better to accompany them in this run than a head ranger? The young PokéManiac felt blessed to be friends with both of the Morales siblings. "Thanks for joining me! I've actually played this level before. Things look smooth right now, but they're about to get very hairy!"

True to her words, a volcano erupted, toxic smoke spreading throughout the primordial jungle at an alarming rate. "We need to find cover! Quick, Gia, into that cave!" The dragon expert yelled, prompting her reptilian mount to Shift Gear and accelerate towards the entrance.

Of course, having done this before, Andrea knew that the cave was not exactly 'safe', but it was much preferable to the other option...
