A slip of white in the murky water draws Klaus's attention, the sleek barely-there colour gone as soon as it came. A moment later and a Basculin jumps up from the water, jaws snapping and body twisting to catch the low light in the cavern. With a soft hum Klaus reaches for a pokeball at his hip, releasing his own Basculin to join the wild one.

It's not long before his once blue-striped fish returns with white stripes of his own, the distortion shimmering across the scaled pokemon's body like ripples of prismatic oil atop water. In a way he supposes it's just like that.

The world is a disorienting pixelation of blue which clears as time ebbs on. Shaking his head, Klaus wrinkles his nose and grunts softly, his hand lifting to ruffle through his hair as he takes stock of his surroundings; after a moment he reaches down and lightly pats his Dreadnaw, murmuring a soft, "Good job, thanks," to the pokemon.

Klaus is promptly informed he's going to help doom the world. That sounds about right, honestly.

He then finds himself in a dome, brow furrowed anew at the riddle he's supplied. "Data," he eventually hazards - which seems correct enough. Spying Cillian Quinn and Martín del Mar in the nearby distance, the young man quietly slinks over. Better to try and simply blend in - the Rocket higher-ups could take up a room's presence when they wanted, which suited Klaus just fine.

The attacking Porygon are soon the most immediate threat, and Klaus sends his Dreadnaw towards the nearest one with, "Razor Shell!"

Klaus is deeply considering turning back. Words are whispered just below the water, not quite threatening but nothing familiar nor comforting about them, while the choppy seas make him cling harder to his Dreadnaw than he normally would. He fidgets, uncertainty creeping into his expression as he looks around.

"What?" Klaus murmurs, his brow furrowing as he looks about for the source of the voice. There isn't one. Instead, another bubbles up from the water, from the northern most whirlpool.

"Klaus."

He balks, he knows that voice - the voice of the man who raised him, soft and monotone. Anselm Anchoret, his father. "Dad," Klaus hazards, his magenta-pink gaze sweeping across the sea.

"You know I'm proud of you, don't you?"

His father's voice is a sledgehammer to his heart, his teeth gritting and hands clutching desperately to his Dreadnaw. "Go north," Klaus snaps all of a sudden to his pokemon. "Dive there."

Sunlight wasn't exactly conducive to smuggling out on the open ocean, much less when it was midnight. It had been like this for a week, the light becoming progressively worse until nary a scrap of night was visible at any hour. On the third day Klaus had spied a ship in the distance, and on the fourth when he investigated weird chanting and actual gunfire warded him off going closer.

Thus, instead of checking his normal drop sites, Klaus sits on one of the boulders washed ashore at the lighthouse, his eyes narrowed in thought. It's not long before he fishes out his phone, the pink tinted, heart-shaped sunglasses atop his head pushed back down over his eyes before he pops off a text.

"Cultists or some shit out in force, can't make drop sites. Need backup."

Rocket could figure out what poor sap had to come out here and help murder a bunch of idiots, or whatever they end up doing to bring back the night.
