Beau flashed Elise a jaunty thumbs-up at her response, his grin not fading for even a second. He'd met all kinds of people on his travels, and was pleasantly surprised to note that the majority of them were pretty cool, in their own ways.

Elise seemed no different, he mused, as they made their way deeper into the cavern. He supposed he could see where some people might give her a hard time, but in his opinion there were bigger things to worry about. Blinking, he noted an enormous series of tracks as they proceeded further into the cavern. Apparently there were LITERALLY bigger things to worry about.

The only time he'd seen tracks remotely close to this had been when he and Gunner Graves ran across that weird blue thing up in the Chasm, and that hadn't exactly been a picnic either. Still, Elise seemed to know what she was doing, so he was happy to follow her lead as they progressed on.

A low, heavy growl sounded from deeper inside the cavern, reverberating around the walls strangely, and Beau briefly flinched, causing Nemo to nearly walk into his back, stopping at the last possible moment.

"Hey, uh, that didn't sound great. Maybe we better keep our eyes peeled just in case, yeah?" he muses, scratching the back of his head and glancing to Elise appraisingly.

"Whatever," Beau echoes absently, momentarily fixated on the shorter man. He knew he'd be coming, he thought he knew what to expect, but if absence makes the heart grow fonder, it's a wonder his wasn't currently trying to escape his chest. Or other things weren't trying to escape other places, he figures.

He blinks, seeming to realize what exactly he'd said, then laughs nervously to cover the misstep. "Good to see you too, brah!" He blinks again at the mention of a movie, taking the DVD from Klaus and turning it over in his hands experimentally. Looks...horror-y. Not Beau's usual pick, for Reasons, but surely he can hold it together. He's been through worse. Yeah!

Setting the DVD down on the coffee table, he follows Klaus's gaze and brightens immediately, striding over and slipping an arm around his shoulders. He points at the photo with his free hand, looking down at Klaus with a blinding smile. "Oh yeah! That was opening day for my gym in Slateport! Had to close it down when I got the pokemon Gym gig a while back, but those were some good times."

Mood sufficiently buoyed, he maneuvers Klaus toward the kitchen. "Food first, bet you had a long night havin' ta get all the way over here after your shift." He finally releases his grip on the other man, pulling out a chair from the small table and indicating for Klaus to sit before he turns his attention to the pancakes, ladling batter into the hot pan with a satisfying sizzle.

He may not always bat a thousand, but it at least looks (and smells) like he knows what he's doing on the stove.

Beau felt Jack grab his arm as the lightning struck, and he reached back blindly, less concerned by the lightning and more by the potential fall he stood to take if the tower didn't hold.

Fortunately, it did, and Beau didn't move to approach the younger man as Jack took the Light Stone, too absorbed in his thoughts. Did it have to be one or the other? Was that true of everything? He had never subscribed to the notion that everything was black and white - he'd met too many people, seen too many places, to believe that philosophy - or as much of the concept as he could reasonably wrap his head around - wasn't a tapestry of color.

Jack, however, looked even more shaken than he was, and Beau reached to support him as he moved for the staircase. "Yeah, I think that's enough video games for one day, brah."

Beau blinked as the scene resolved into the top of a tower, and he was personally incredibly proud that he only managed to utter a squeak instead of a scream at the sudden distance of the ground on all sides.

He watched as the two men argued with one another verbally, before their enormous dragon pokemon lunged for each other, and the accompanying flame and lightning that accompanied the clash. He nodded in agreement to Jack, calling out to the older man, "Nah, brah, truth changes! If your truth is that everything sucks, it's up to you to change it! If you have the right ideals it's what you make of it!"

He was forced back a step as a particularly large gout of flame roared up from the conflict, and he scowled. "Use your words, my dudes! Don't, like, fight this whole darn tower down!"

While he enjoyed being in the water more than just about anywhere else that he could think of, Beau had to admit that the effect was somewhat spoiled on days like this. The Lilycove docks were dark, lit only by the occasional dotted lights from the city above and the lighthouse that Beau found his gaze sliding to more than it might ought to - he couldn't help but think that klaus anchoret was as busy as he was, tonight.

The S.S. Tidal had sent a distress signal - a vicious storm was raging, as though Beau couldn't tell that from the sheets of water pouring from the sky and obscuring his vision in any direction he turned - and not only could the ship not dock in Lilycove properly due to the conditions, they'd suffered a fuel tank mishap that left them virtually dead in the water.

He'd responded to the alert, as he had already been in Lilycove for Reasons (he tried not to think about Klaus again) and was currently eyeballing the choppy waters, his Blastoise at his side. Jack was due to arrive shortly, or so his message had said, but Beau still wasn't sure how the two of them would keep a full-sized ship and its passengers safe until the storm abated.

He grinned to himself under the water sluicing down over him. He did love a challenge, after all.

Chaos growled and gave a single, sharp nod of satisfaction as Jack's Iron Crown dispatched the two scientists in a surge of electricity, suffering only from momentarily fluffier ears due to his proximity before he shook himself irritably. As Jack drew down to him, he offered a wheezing 'hmph' in response, turning about swiftly and bounding into the research station.

His path took him past the fallen electronics and disarrayed furniture of the front room directly into the back, where he trotted over to Beau's cell with another reedy bark.

Beau fairly bounced on his heels as he saw Chaos scamper back through the door only moments after he'd left. "What's up, brah? Did you bring help?" He tried not to seem overly excited at the prospect of not having been able to free himself, but the tinge of hope in his tone was at this point unavoidable.

When he caught sight of who followed Chaos, however, he exhaled the breath he hadn't known he was holding, the tension of the day escaping him at the sight of a friendly face. He was so relieved he was practically dizzy with it, the room seeming to shake and shift with the force of it.

Oh, no, wait. That was an earthquake.

The station shook briefly from the seismic event, Chaos growling at the temerity of the ground to move without being told to, and the keypad in front of Beau's holding area sparked and offered a plaintive beep, the red light on its surface blinking green. The glass of the door hissed as the pneumatics holding it in place deactivated, and it opened a sliver.

Beau whooped loudly, hooking his fingers in the gap and pulling the door open quicker than anything he'd done in a week, stumbling out of the enclosure on legs that hadn't been able to move properly for hours. "Jack? Dude, am I damn glad to see you!!"

"I don't know about you, but I'm lookin' forward to a lot more sandwiches still," Beau quips brightly. He's been through stormier seas, and he'd be damned if he let some errant ghosts or an uppity pothole make life even harder in his town after he'd only just gotten back to it.

He nods, giving an experimental stretch. "Guess I'll go for a walk this afternoon, then, if things are quiet. Find out where all the good stuff is, an' all," he winks. Sure, he knew Dewford like the back of his hand, but apparently a lot had changed in the intervening year-and-some since he'd moved away, and he never did like being on the back foot, anyway.

When Navy manages to produce a notepad to scrawl out his phone number, Beau's eyebrows raise ever so slightly. There didn't seem to be a drastic difference in their ages, if he had to guess, and he wondered idly if holding certain positions just meant you had to adopt older mannerisms. He'd had enough close clerical calls of his own that if he didn't have copious notes and reminders of a digital sort that he could get to at any point, he'd be sunk.

He reaches over to take the slip of paper with a grateful nod, pulling his phone out and immediately firing off a text message to provide the other man with his contact info. Do it now and you won't forget, and all that.

Coming to his feet, he offers Navy another handshake and a broad smile. "I look forward to workin' with you, sure. It's good to be home."

Wait, 'Ranger'? A Ranger was nearby? Maybe somebody had gotten his SOS after all! Gosh, Beau would have killed to have even one of his pokemon in the cell with him, because then he might actually stand a chance of breaking out and getting even with the mooks that thought they could just up and conk him on the head with his guard down.

Then again, judging from the hubbub taking place outside and in the front room of the research station, it sounded like his time in the cell might be coming to an end soon anyway, if he was lucky.

The male scientist struggling with Chaos literally biting at his heels had crashed into the workstation of the female scientist, sending the computer she was working on crashing to the ground and managing in some stroke of cosmic probability to snap the portable drive she'd inserted as well. Cursing, she aimed a kick at the fierce Snubbull, who scooted narrowly out of the way of the attack before leaping at her in a flurry of dull claws and sharp teeth, PLAYING ROUGH.

The pair of researchers yelped and fought each other to be the first out the door of the station, with Chaos hot on their heels, growling and snarling fit for a beast ten times his size. As the trio emerged into the fading sunlight of the Chasm, the Snubbull caught sight of Jack approaching on Crownback and offered a piercingly loud bark, running excitedly in circles in front of the station door.
