The waves are nice today. The sort of thing Tam cares much more about than the actual surfing. The sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, the scent of the ocean brine, the laughter of everyone having some beachside fun. It's things that he'll always associate with Hoenn. So terribly different from the place where he grew up.

This is not his thing. Undoubtedly and undeniably, Tam doesn’t quite fit into the excited energy of the crowd that had gathered to watch the swimsuit contest. Since, after all, that’s exactly what he does, he watches. All while sipping a gin and tonic.

Out of the contestants, there are a few he recognizes, like @marshall, , , , , , and even who apparently was only there for a single round. But, of all of them, it’s that Tam would end up finding himself basically obligated to cheer for.

Why, you ask?

Well, for one, she is one of the rangers who work under him here in Slateport, and she’s doing well. In the crowd, Tam happens to run into other rangers, who insist that ”We have to cheer for Hailee, boss!”. She’s actually a pretty nice person. And, last but not least, he’s sure would probably give him those annoying puppy dog eyes he does when disappointed if he were to learn that Tam didn’t cheer for Hailee when he had the chance.

Got to hand it to , that one almost gets a chuckle out of Tam. It doesn’t quite get there, though. But, he does smirk just so slightly for a second when looking at her, and just like that, blink and you miss it, the smirk is quickly gone and he returns his attention to the water.

By his side, his Yamper barks, and it’s happily that she approaches Hailee’s annoyed-looking Emolga, as if completely immune to the murderous vibes the smaller electric type is giving off. Like trainer, like pokémon. Clover may be much more cheerful than Tam, but she’s still equally as unfazed by most things, isn’t she?

This time, Tam reels in Gyarados, and although it’s just average in size, it sure makes for an impressive sight.

For the most part, he feels that this wasn't exciting enough to be worth all the effort, but who knows, maybe there's some people out there who are really into spinning around on while standing on a Mantine. It sure isn't for Tam. Hell, he'd much rather do regular surfing.

In fact, the only reason why he had even known her name before is because he had put an effort into actually memorising who works at Slateport HQ when he had been made captain of the city.

At the mention of “everything going on in Hoenn at the moment” he frowns just so slightly, but then does no more than reel in the tiniest Bruxish ever while looking in the direction the closest edge of the dome is supposed to be.

”We’ll probably get even busier soon.” He agrees with , but that is also true considering all the extra duties the Splashfest has given the rangers. The Bruxish is returned, and Tam raises a brow at then.

”What’s the issue with the Snorlax? Maybe I should let it handle all that food you brought, since you’re such a fan of it.” He says it in the most matter-of-fact tone humanly possible, his stare deadpan, but of course, the truth is that he’s just messing with Noah.
