There’s nothing all that special about the office of Ranger Captain Tam Fawley, except perhaps for the little dog bed on which a Yamper peacefully sleeps – right by an open window that lets in a cool ocean breeze. The most recent budget cuts had meant the loss of their AC, so this is definitely appreciated by both the Unovan and his canine companion.

The attitude of the cadet that soon steps into his office, though? Tam doesn’t appreciate that all that much, but he also doesn’t particularly care for it. After all, it’s not his job to teach anyone manners. @arashi can behave however he wishes as long as he doesn’t cause trouble for others.

Shame they have to meet like this, Tam thinks he seems like he could be fun.

"Hey." Is all Tam says to as a greeting while reeling in his first catch: a Gorebyss that apparently had wandered up from the depths where they usually dwell. Strange, but other than that, there's nothing too relevant about the fish, so he decides to let it go back to where it'll be comfortable.

With him, even words of reassurance are dry, especially when he doesn't even bother with looking at her – being too preoccupied with setting his fishing line back up. That is, of course, until Noah loudly announces his arrival, and in doing so, wakes Tam's Yamper.

Ever gleeful to see the cadet, Clover's ears perks. Quickly standing up, she approaches with waddling steps and a wagging tail. Probably not the help he wanted, but at least Tam also gets up a moment later.

Let’s start off by saying that this was ’s idea, and that’s a very important fact.

Despite what people may think, fishing has never appealed to Tam. Is it that he thinks it’s boring? That it takes too much time? No. The issue is it takes effort and he just doesn’t care enough.

Apparently there’s a fishing competition as part of the Slateport Splashfest, and as Slateport’s ranger captain, he should probably be there to make sure people are abiding by the ranger guidelines and not taking more fish than what’s allowed. That doesn’t mean he should take part in the competition itself, but Noah had insisted.

Apparently, he had also decided to bring some of their coworkers with him, or well, at least .
