[break][break]strange happenings in the rift, as reported by the rangers guarding it at the desert ruins, demand her attention. she doesn't have the same appetite for these ultra realms that many other rangers have, but she stomachs this visit all the same. [break][break]the transition from daylight to darkness is a difficult one, especially with the blinding flashes of lightning in the distance. annalise rubs one eye and scans the stormy sky with the other. [break][break]it seems like the normal, apocalyptic world it always is. [break][break]she travels slowly down the marked path of previous explorers, using distant lightning to illuminate the way. her mareep, cornbread, prances faithfully at her side. [break][break]

too much happens.[break][break]though kyurem and reshiram are split and the threat is sent back into its dimensional rift, the battle on the ground continues. annalise has nothing to leverage in a war of gods and barely-controlled avatar powers, so she can only watch and command her meowstic to assist in protecting those still nearby. more hyper beams lance out from howard slayte 's regice, depriving her of vision. [break][break] she hears the beam crescendo as it cuts a path nearby, then the rapid flutter of her heart against her ribs, then the dull thud of Shred 's body hitting the ground. [break][break]it startles her out of inaction. [break][break] her chest heaves as she turns away, struggling to breathe through the cold and panic stuck in her throat. she reaches up, fingers hooking into the fabric covering her nose and mouth, and yanks it down under her chin to suck in a breath. [break][break]and then she sees the unmoving form of Isaac Merlo in the snow, haloed pink with blood. and in his arms — Genevieve Cromwell .[break][break]"genny?" she calls out, voice high-pitched with uncertainty and fear. [break][break]a wash of adrenaline shocks her system and commands her feet to move. snow crunches beneath her boots as she rushes up to them, then drops to her knees at their side. cold hands reach out to shake a shoulder, to brush a face. they're still breathing. still alive.[break][break]"you guys are gonna be okay."[break][break]and the rest feels like autopilot. she speaks over the league comms, but it doesn't sound like it's coming from her mouth.[break][break] two injured. stable. [break][break]her dragapult appears, and the yawning mouth of his phantom force spreads like a shadow across the ground beneath the pair. the dragon takes them away at her command, either to Alexei Ivanov or the nearest hospital, and leaves her kneeling in the ranger's blood. [break][break]she gets up as the last wisp of darkness dissipates, fingers shakily reaching for her altaria's pokeball. it slips from her hand, but her companion appears all the same. she climbs onto her back, sinking into her plumage, and feels the thrust of the dragon-type leaving the ground.[break][break]
