Shock-waves akin to a devastating earthquake threatened Nomi's stability once more. Fed up with feeling so unmoored, she turned to Trillium and grabbed onto the Togekiss. In one graceful motion, she hopped up onto his back, a much-needed respite from the trembling earth.[break][break]
Together, they levitated above the battlefield, sand buffering them with grainy pebbles - but luckily, not thick enough to blind them.[break][break]
Nomi caught sight of a familiar figure and her eyes widened. Yuina Higashi? What was she doing here? Trying to help, Nomi immediately realized. Just like with Kyurem, just like escaping that horrible prison, and just like with the ongoing RUINATION of their precious region, League and Rocket both seemed to be here, working together to contain the dynamaxed Registeel. Once, that might have inspired Nomi, but now, it only made her feel tired.[break][break]
But she would help Yuina, if she could. For trust. For loyalty. For friendship.[break][break]
Trillium summoned an infinite possibility of energy, letting the universe decide the modality of his support: thick twisting tendrils of leaves and branches sprouted out of the ground around Yuina, empowering her Venasaur.[break][break]

An explosive burst of DYNERGY kicked up a tornado of wind and debris that was so powerful, it knocked Nomi off her feet. She was blown backwards, landing nearby to a beautiful, if somewhat battered, Altaria and its trainer, a woman (emma stone) Nomi did not recognize. All around them, glass glittered, steam rising from the transformed sand. A new beam of deadly light was now headed in their direction, and Nomi knew they had to act quickly if they had any hope of enduring the Registeel's wrath.[break][break]
The metallic titan was clearly stronger than any Dynamaxed Bronzong or CLAYDOL they'd thus far encountered.[break][break]

Nomi's a smart young woman - a really smart one - so she instantly understood, as soon as the word Kanto left Parker's mouth, what avery jones had been "up to" lately. What she was likely doing in Hoenn. And it did not surprise her, not really. Was it sad? Sure. Was it inevitable? Maybe. But shocking? No. In fact, she should never have asked - in order to spare Avery the embarrassment of owning it.[break][break]
I was just - What was she just? Trying to be normal? It was a perfectly reasonable question to ask your girlfriend's sister. If you weren't all criminals.[break][break]
"You'll be treated better here," she insisted, leaning back in her chair, expression troubled. "I don't agree with Kanto's methods."[break][break]
It would seem off topic, perhaps. But Avery deserved better. And if Nomi had any sway, any real power within the organization, she'd prevent another Kanto. What was the point of ruling a broken and bleeding land? It was a waste of resources to strip a region bare.[break][break]

There have been many developments since our last quorum. I wonder - do we even need to attack Mossdeep to steal its secrets?

I know of at least one person within Rocket who would be able to infiltrate that city without suspicion.

At the very least, we ought to be able to take it without too large of a force. If we rely on stealth and subterfuge, we can send more of our fighters to a bigger city than Petalburg, such as Lilycove - should we desire a more ambitious acquisition.

But, I too must caution against leaving Sootopolis undefended.

They are called to the vibrations of psychic energy, already attuned to the rhythm of possibility that pulses outwards from the intricate network of Tera crystals deep within the earth. One unfamiliar with the transgressions of its creation might rightfully assume the monstrosity to be some new form of paradox, but the Unown know better.[break][break]
They call out to the Visionary in the language of opportunity.[break][break]
She appears out of thin air, casually stepping through a tear in reality as if interdimensional travel is nothing more than a mild inconvenience. Crystals blossom around the temporary portal, haloing the young woman in an ethereal blue light: the exact same color as her close-cropped hair. All around her, Unown make themselves visible, a hoard of white eyeballs staring intently at the anomaly.[break][break]
She must tread carefully, for this is uncharted territory - and surely, dangerous ground.[break][break]
"Hello," she greets the Pokemon called Mewtwo. "Apologies for the interruption, but I was hoping that we could speak."

He and Parker already were, in a sense. But they don't live in a world where their families can be anything more than underground allies: not while Nomi remains loyal to Rocket, and not while King dances the line between factions all too delicately. There's a timeline, somewhere - perhaps Father Winter could have taken her there instead - where she and freya morningstar are colleagues, Nomi's PhD having led her to a Head Scientist position within the League government. She can touch that reality with a steadier hand than she can stomach the version of herself that had followed Holo from the very beginning.[break][break]
But there is no sense dwelling on alternate realities, when this is the world she's vowed to protect.[break][break]
"Sootopolis is - was - her home," Nomi confirms. She knows the history, but not the layers of hurt. She lost a family once, but not a legacy. "She wants it back, but not with blood."[break][break]
Kallistatus and the shiny Dragonaire are having some sort of conversation, a silent exchange between ancients.[break][break]
"It's my home now, too." She thinks of their house, where Parker is now, where Maisey's surely snoring on her back in the bed. "Maybe there's a future where we can live there together."[break][break]

If he enters, he will see her: the prophetess at her altar, or perhaps, simply a young woman drowning in paperwork. She's been neglecting it lately: lab results, reports, and proposals in need of a Head Scientist's stamp of approval. At the corner of the desk, the glint of the METENO DEOXYS CORE can be seen, still coated in a thick layer of ice.[break][break]

It was the sort of thing Isaac Merlo might say, in defiance of the pointless rivalries, personal vendettas, and faction enmities that served Hoenn little good, in the grand scheme of things. It was also a hopelessly naive idealism, the sort of thing that would get a woman like Yuina killed if she wasn't careful. After all, Nomi had blindly trusted in the power of open-mindedness only to watch the love of her life nearly burn to a crisp for it.[break][break]
Never again would she make that same mistake.[break][break]
"You are a good person, Yuina," Nomi gently emphasized. A low whistle indicated the water was beginning to boil. "Not everyone is willing to set aside biases against larger organizations in order to better understand the individuals within them."[break][break]
A bitterness crept into her voice, then. She turned to briefly remove the kettle from the stove.[break][break]
"Another thing you should know about me, is that I am an Avatar." She smiled a little, nodding her head at Nigma. "Which you may have gathered, considering the HNN article refers to me as The Visionary." They'd spent a significant amount of time together in Lesser Megalopolis; Nomi had been forced to use her powers more than once, as subtly as she could manage.[break][break]
"My ascension to Avatarship helped me understand my true purpose, Yuina," she murmured softly. "The faction conflict is a distraction, one the DRK Triad is keen on perpetuating. It keeps us all occupied while they further their own agenda. I've been...trying to put a temporary halt to it, in favor of a unified front against our common enemy."

"They are called Unown," Nomi explained, resting a hand atop one of the larger Tera crystals. Despite the cool, damp air within the cave, the crystal was warm to the touch - as if storing energy deep within its core. "Relatively rare, but only because they are rather elusive."[break][break]
She smiled when the Unown-F was referred to as "cute."[break][break]
"I think so too," she agreed.[break][break]
Nomi cocked her head curiously as the woman continued speaking. Another researcher? Was she a League scientist, then? Perhaps working with the likes of Eva Morales or illeana reyes?[break][break]
"My name's Naomi Sato," Nomi introduced, leaning on her civilian persona. "PhD candidate with Slateport University, specializing in bioengineering." She held out her hand to the woman, who's entire demeanor was elegant enough to warrant a measure of propriety. "But you can call me Nomi, if you'd like. Most do."[break][break]
She hesitated, then added - "Are you here with any specific organization, or...?"

The two Meltan danced happily around the new Meltan, their little arms flailing about as they greeted their kin.[break][break]
Hi Meltan! We're also Meltan! Well, she calls us Mercury and Malus. But you can call us Meltan![break][break]
At least, that's what it seemed like they were saying. The Visionary was somewhat preoccupied.[break][break]
"Hm, the innate quality of your physiology seems unchanged. Well, er, relatively speaking."[break][break]
He'd been beaten within an inch of his life in the prison, and he had the bruises to show for it.[break][break]
She circled around him like he was more fascinating specimen than man - which, of course, he was - her face scrunched up with the sort of deep-thinking focus one might expect from a seasoned scientist. When she spied the glistening burn, however - shiny like new skin but still oddly raw - her face lit up with visible excitement. She grabbed his arm with an enthusiastic tug, any concern for his beat-up state forgotten in the wake of an imminent breakthrough.[break][break]
"Aha! There's the mark!" She poked at it gently with her finger. "Does it hurt?"[break][break]
It was at that moment that her brain registered the comment he'd made.[break][break]
"Nah, don't worry about Parker - she trusts me," Nomi assured him, half-distracted by his divine brand. "And anyway, she thinks you need more experience being around cute girls."

She can't stop smiling as she stares up at the house - their house - where they'll live their life together and take care of Maisey together and plant the seeds of their love in every corner together.[break][break]
And she thinks, this must be a dream, but then she corrects herself: no, this time it's real. Her dreams have been nightmares lately: toxic reminders of imminent peril and ruinous decay. She can't remember the last time she's felt this happy: an overflowing joy held tightly between her ribs, heart fit to burst.[break][break]
She giggles when Parker scoops her up, and doesn't let her mind linger on the deja-vu (carried once, just like this, adorned in white and reeking of strawberries). Her arms wrap around Parker's neck and she nuzzles her nose against her ear and whispers, breathily, "Let's try out the tub first."[break][break]
Their fairy tale had been conceived in hot springs and inked in lake-water, so it only made sense that it would be cemented within a bubblebath.
