Those words are left unspoken, but they hang in the air between them, contaminating the air like something rotten. Her self-loathing and self-doubt twists like a knife to her gut, painful and impossible to ignore. But she tries to, anyway.[break][break]

It isn't Illeana that draws out these feelings, though. It is merely their shared experiences. Stormy puts no blame on the woman in front of her for leaving, for putting up a wall between herself and the pain. If anything, she's envious that she hadn't had the sense to do the same.[break][break]

Fingers slide up the length of her waist, however, and it spurs buried emotion and reaction from the woman. Her lips part to exhale a quiet gasp, taken by surprise by the familiarity and the longing that she felt. It burned in her chest the closer Illeana got. Instinctively, Stormy finds herself clinging back.[break][break]

The warmth from Illeana's breath brushes her neck as the woman speaks, another reminder of a night spent beneath the stars. A night that felt so far away now, all of a sudden.[break][break]

"I'm.. tired."[break][break]

Stormy sighs, unsure what else to say or how else to describe what it was that she had been. To whine, to complain, to give a voice to the worries and the stress and the tears she'd shed since. the end of the three day war felt selfish. To sum it up in one word was easier, even if it didn't account for anything at all.[break][break]

Her hands slide away as Illie steps back, and it was only then that she realized the trembling she'd felt hadn't been her own, it had been Illie's.[break][break]

"I'm sorry, Illie."[break][break]

And just like that, tears well up in her eyes that she can't predict or stop. All at once, grief rises to the surface, choking her until she breaks. Seeing the woman in front of her had brought back a surge of rawness, of pain and grief and anguish that she had been burying for months. [break][break]

"I'm sorry, I couldn't save him. I should have been there."[break][break]

She sighs, using her finger to spin the mug around by its handle. It makes a noise that helps to distract her from the bubbling anxiety she feels. Self-control was a trait she'd thought she'd handled, and yet it was falling to pieces the moment Matias had stepped through her front door.[break][break]

Stormy breathes out slowly as she settles into the chair. Try as she might to get comfortable, the feeling of the headband squeezing her noggin is unsettling and mildly distressing. She forces a smile, though it's unclear if it comes across as such.[break][break]

And then the questions start and it's the previous statement that makes her laugh out loud. It is a sudden, awkward noise, a knee-jerk reaction. None of these were 'easy' in the sense that they should be. Nothing about her childhood was easily describable, and talking about herself in any regard was like pulling teeth.[break][break]

"Umm.. not good? It was hard, high expectations, the responsibility to be the absolute best - better than the best. There was no love, only hard work and punishment if we didn't succeed."[break][break]

Perhaps that wasn't entirely true - but it was for her. [break][break]

Her voice is breathless but steady, a testament to her stubbornness and her strength. The misty terrain, the purple wisp that springs from his hand latches onto her fingertips. It tickles, exploring the surface of her skin. [break][break]

And then it is replaced by warmth and his own hand in hers. His grip is like iron and in that she finds renewed comfort. That he hasn't rejected her, that he hadn't turned away. She squeezes in response to his own grip, and her skin is warm to the touch. This time, however, despite its heat, she doesn't let go.[break][break]

She nods gently, following along with the man when he beckons her. Their conversation is light, brief, full of information regarding what is to come and the procedure she'd undergo. Admittedly, it makes her a little bit nervous. This sort of spotlight had only really happened one other time, like a mandatory therapy session after her first mission in Slateport, three or so years ago.[break][break]

As a result, her face pales slightly as they enter the next room. Two people stand with papers and pens and a chair with a headset. Zenji assures that if anything got to be too much that they'd stop. It seemed like a typical, routine procedure, nothing out of the ordinary. Honestly, she wasn't sure why her mouth dried and her skin prickled with a sense of dread. [break][break]

But she agrees, because she's expected to, promised to, and it would be over soon. Confusion, panic, distraction.[break][break]

If this wasn't a spectacular spectacle of the League's incompetency, she wasn't sure what was. [break][break]

The power whip smashes through the elite four's formation, and Charizard fall out of line. One, in particular, plummets. She gasps, leaning backward to reorient the Pokemon beneath her. She isn't fast enough or close enough to intervene without causing more harm than good, but it seems that Wadjet is aware. She groans, black wings gathering underneath her to dive-- but the sharp-shot of another Charizard clips her on the way down.[break][break]

She unfurls her wings to steady herself, bellowing a complaint to the younger Charizard with the young girl(chryssa glasgow) still on him. [break][break]

Stormy lets out a breath as the woman is caught and placed on the Charizard's back, and Wadjet would eventually make the attempt to reclaim her rider should Elaine Highland be so inclined.[break][break]

Unfortunately, they don't have that sort of luxury. In the span of minutes, the situation escalates. Stormy glances over her shoulder to watch as the kid spits a foul-mouthed slew of curses and threats. It makes her face pinch into a look of shock and unease before her attention snaps to the second Zarude that had shown up in the trees. [break][break]

"There are.. three of them? Fucks sake."[break][break]

However, presently, those one aren't currently screaming and writhing in pain. Sekhmet's rumbling is a reminder of that, and dragon has already forced her hand in decision-making. They dive toward the ground, wings tucked, tail a banner of flame. As they get closer, Stormy shouts for 'Chryssa' and Elaine.[break][break]

"Are you alright, Highland? Get yourself sorted, because we're waist-deep in a situation, here! We have orders to protect the wildlife here, and I have a feeling that monkey Pokemon is our prime target. We need to make sure that these people don't get their hands on it!"[break][break]

Although it was clearly a little bit late for that. [break][break]

She gasps as she witnesses the men surround the injured Zarude with the intent to maim. Although she's too late to stop them from sampling the vines, she makes her move anyway. From her hand, an Aegislash has appeared, and she quite literally throws the Pokemon like a javelin- aided of course by the Pokemon's trust in her and own momentum. It lands with a splash of dirt, setting itself into a kings shield in front of the Zarude to prevent further harm.[break][break]

Sekhmet gets close enough to the ground that Stormy jumps off, huffing and puffing but catching the tail-end of Killian Decker speaking to himself. Something about 'got a problem'.[break][break]

"You're about to have a problem, that's for damn sure."[break][break]

Another of her Pokemon appears at her side, a quiet little Smeargle, paper and paint at the ready.[break][break]

It didn't matter how many times she visited, the steps leading to the laboratory and the entirety of Ever Grande City would always mesmerize her with its beautiful architecture. She wasn't by any means an expert, nor did she know anything at all about the city, but she was more than happy to stare open-mouthed in awe of the beauty.[break][break]

Fortunately, she is pulled away from that by way of zenji jabami's assistant. The young man with the green shock of hair was excitable and eager, drilling her with questions that she'd awkwardly answer with dismissal and chuckles. Her fame preceded her, it seemed, and it had only gotten worse since signing the contract. Her face was quite literally a poster for the League, a spotlight of expectation and awe for the region. [break][break]

They eventually make it to the esteemed head scientist himself, in which Evan lets the young woman go. She waves to him, genuinely satisfied with their conversation until now. Her head tilts back to face Zenji as he welcomes her, and she offers the man a smile.[break][break]

"I'm glad to be here, professor."[break][break]

At the mention of the many eyes, Stormy takes a second to glance around the room to find the source of his comment. It elicits a feeling similar to her skin crawling, but far less creepy-crawly and more awkward.[break][break]

"I'd love to say you get used to it but.."[break][break]

Her voice quiets as he leans in to whisper to her, and she glances back at him with a renewed smile at his candor. He did not seem at all the type to be anxious, and it was quite relieving to be proven wrong. [break][break]

"It's no concern, really. This is important."[break][break]

Silence is the only comfort she finds, at first, in the space between them. Her hand doesn't move away, acting as a tether, albeit a tentative one. He waits, and she can feel herself holding her breath. Emotions wash over the man's face like a tidal wave into a receding current, lapping at the shore of his mind as he comes up with an answer, a response, anything.[break][break]

And when his hand rises to caress her cheek, the breath she'd been holding is released nervously, caught by the hitch in her throat, the uncertainty. Despite saying she wanted this, there was a very real part of her that wanted to take it back, to reel herself back in, to not go down this path. She'd been here before, vulnerable in a man's arms, looking up to him for an answer, for reciprocated affection.[break][break]

She had been burned before, been set aside.[break][break]

But in Remiel's eyes, she didn't see the same, she saw grief, guilt. But she also saw that same hunger, that same wicked taste of desire that she had. He moves closer and she lets out a quiet breath in anticipation. Their bodies naturally come together, warm hands holding her close while her own find purchase against his shoulder, his back. [break][break]

Although the kiss is brief, it provides warmth in her chest that is real. [break][break]

The heaviness in his voice, however, brings her nothing but conflict. He doesn't move away, however, as the same hand that had held her cheek now runs through her hair. Remiel's forehead presses to hers and she can hear their breathing sync.[break][break]

And there it was. There's someone else.[break][break]

She'd had a feeling, she had seen the listlessness in him, the longing. He had been carrying a heavy weight upon his shoulders, heavier even now than when she'd first met him. But to hear him admit it out loud after their shared moment twisted like a knife, another warning sign, another step she'd taken too far. Her thoughts race for a moment before he pulls away, and she lets him, fingers dropping from their light hold around him. She's studying him until the moment he looks away from her.[break][break]

"I'm sorry. I didn't know."[break][break]

Grief bubbles up in her chest, but it is more than just sympathy. He puts into words the truth that she had been avoiding. She hadn't really moved on either, even though his casket had been lowered into the ground. [break][break]

"I lost someone too."[break][break]
