A short “Tch” escapes Shuwen’s lips at the raised tower shield. His moment will come. He waits, a patient hunter, as the spear jabs out towards him. In his peripheral, the bear sees Navy. The human with whom he has pledged to defend this region is reckless. Some would say too reckless. Facing the oncoming spear, Shuwen understands recklessness has its place.[break][break]
The spear digs into him, the jabs grazing along his fur. Blood stains the mat below them both, red as Zero’s paint. Counting his lucky stars that none of the blows find solid meat, Shuwen’s fists fly in retaliation. Channeling the spirit of water within him, he shouts his war cry. Water gathers along the edge of his fists, the torrential surging strikes sparking from errant electricity spread across the field.[break][break]
“It smell like bacon in here to you?” Navy asks Greyson as Shuwen’s fists sizzle.

“Rocket killed him.” Yet Tempest Quinn had nothing to do with that death. He was nowhere close to Mt. Pyre. Perhaps he was having a nice stroll with his husband, oblivious to the death until Elisabeth Fiorelli returned and the celebratory champagne was popped. [break][break]
All he knows is that he wants to fight, even if he has to wobble forward. Musashi floats forward, unleashing another bullet punch aimed towards the Lapras. It’s a bad matchup. Musashi spots it a mile away. There’s a reason Navy picked Musashi. Unlike most of his dragons, who simply rage, his Scizor makes a conscious decision to fight, even if it’s a bad idea.[break][break]
He’s the perfect enabler. Hattori sits off to the side, making no effort to attack either Temp or his Pokemon. Instead, the frog stares up with one big, red eye at Temp, as if pleading in the silent language of soul to not hurt a man in a state this sorry.

“I know he went out like he wanted. That’s the kind of guy Kyle was.” He turns away. Her words already coaxed him to cry before a kennel of beasts. He will not deign to show her his tears here. Voice growing husky, he looks off at some distant technicolor monument to an alien show he’s never seen.[break][break]
“He did it ‘cause if it wasn’t him, it would’ve been Melody, Lam – hell, even Silph.” Matias, a man responsible for wanton destruction, a hero and villain wrapped up in human complexity. Navy can practically see Kyle, talking about how similar they are. Her words rouse an image of his own hand covered in black primal marks.[break][break]
“I knew Kyle, before he had Ho-oh. Knew him since we were kids. He was always the kind of guy who’d rather eat chips and play dumb games instead of making something of himself.” His voice wavers through the words, emboldened into coherency as he is by this dream. “Then that big bird got him. He told me Silph – Matias used to be different. Tom, Illeana, Eva…wonder what they were like before gods decided they didn’t get to be their own people anymore.”[break][break]
His eyes finally find her, and despite himself, they glisten.[break][break]
“Was it that snail that made you so hateful?”

In another life, Michael Navidson would call this a gray area job. It’s certainly expected that he check out this intel. It’s proper. All the same, with League resources at the top stretched thin between kyle lopez’s death and MATIAS SILPH’s leave, no one is seriously going to give him shit if he turns this down. They’ll shake their heads, say it couldn’t be helped, tell him to redouble his efforts on ready League troopers for the upcoming offensive – an offensive which seems to be starting any day now according to the rumor mill.[break][break]
Yet still, he’s suited up. Navy stands alone, just off the shore of this small island. Someone from Rocket’s command staff is overseeing something here. Perhaps it’s smuggling. Perhaps they’re gathering intel on Ever Grande. All he knows is that someone has to get them out of here, even if the island is closer to Sootopolis than it is to Ever Grande.[break][break]
Could be more than one. A younger man’s voice whispers in his mind. Could be it’s a honey pot. Could be Harcourt, Delarosa, and Quinn are all sipping on martinis waiting for your stupid ass to show up. Melody’s gonna have to bury you if you keep showing up swinging your dick everywhere.[break][break]
An older man quiets the thoughts. It’s a warrior’s duty to fight, and the Pale Rider’s writ to venture forth alone where fellowships fear to tread.[break][break]
His Scizor’s bullet punch slams into one of the grunts, a blow aimed at the leg. It sends him flying, fast enough to break his back were it not for Hattori catching the man with a substitute. His shinobi has been given very specific orders: they don’t kill.[break][break]
“Well well well,” Navy grins upon seeing who among the command staff is there, “Tempest Quinn. Your hubby’s gonna have to add an Ever Grande jailbreak to his resume, I’m bringin’ you in.” His smile is cracked at the edge, threads coming undone, but it holds for now. Whatever poisons seep through his body will not kill him yet.

“I’m so glad you’re alright, Baki.” He says, his voice raw with emotion. “This here’s Oscar.” The Rider says, nodding at the man who kept him alive for a week. Whatever comes next, he’ll hold oscar clayton in high esteem. A chain running between the man and THEO BECKETT is noticed, but ignored. There are larger concerns.[break][break]
“Let’s stick together. Don’t know where everyone’s going, but…” As the platform descends, he collapses to one knee. His gun falls to his side, bound there by the chain around his neck. Fatigue catches up to him, gnawing dread eating away at his heart.[break][break]
I can’t fall here. He thinks. I made Howard a promise.[break][break]
So, empowered by John Sullivan’s powers, he stands. His eyes, once more sharpened to a fine steel edge, search through the crowd. Melody Miro is there, somewhere on the other side. She’s too far away for him to shout out, so he turns his attention to closer folk.[break][break]
“Eddie? Beau? Arceus…are you two alright?” He asks Eduardo Hisakawa and Beau Fontaine. That they are here at all deepens his despair, but he says a quiet prayer just as quick when he sees they’re alive and doing relatively well. “It’s me, Navy. Long time no see, guys.”[break][break]
He spies howard slayte, also close enough to chat up. He sees him dodge harm with preternatural speed. Cogs in his head turn.[break][break]
“Don’t know what’s going on, but I’m glad we’re all h-”[break][break]
The dragon maiden, Andrea Vaneau, springs into action. She rushes to save a life not her own. As others inevitably rush down to the bottom through flesh tubes, Andrea puts another’s well being before her own.[break][break]
Just like a hero should do.[break][break]
“If any of you want to head down there, don’t blame ya.” He cocks the gun. “But I’m helpin’ Andrea.” He turns to address those closest to him.[break][break]
“Oscar, don’t know what you can do but…I’d appreciate your help.” Next, he looks to Tsubaki, speaking with a father’s voice. “You care ‘bout those Nihilego, yeah? Then do what only you can do. I’ll cover you.”[break][break]
And last, he speaks to Howard. His eyes are trained on @genivieve, smiling at her reckless charge.[break][break]
“Howard. Gonna guess you’ve got good reflexes or something.” A close enough deduction. “Tell me when something’s going to hurt Genny or Andrea. I’ll chain ‘em down.”

Tl;dr: Putting this here because it might be too long for my template's notes section. Navy meets up with Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki. Has oscar clayton in tow and notices his connection to Theo. Doesn't comment. Platform descends. Notices Beau Fontaine and Eduardo Hisakawa in the crowd, speaks to them. When the group arrives at the bottom, he is moved by Andrea Vaneau's heroism and resolves to help her. Asks Oscar for help, tells Tsubaki to do what only she can do, and combos his power with Howard's.[break][break]
Main action: When Howard predicts imminent harm towards Andrea, Tsubaki, or Genevieve Cromwell, Navy will shoot his chain gun to try and protect them.

“Oh yeah.” At the sight of the Poipole, Navy’s curiosity is roused. Walking in the direction from whence it came, he finds himself positioned before a clutch of eggs. Many of them look fit to burst, ready to hatch more monstrosities into the world. Scooping up one Poipole egg for himself, he steps back.[break][break]
A long stream of fire from Voyager takes care of the rest. These monsters won’t be hurting anyone. Placing the egg in an incubator, he prays that the Poipole will serve the League well. Arceus knows its evolved form is a terror on the battlefield.[break][break]
“Funny thing? His bar used to be my favorite shitty little pub. Best burger and fries in Slateport. Those were the days. Didn’t know who he was back then. Wish he’d stuck to burgers. The man he had been then and the warrior he was now are two entirely different beings. One was ore, mined raw from the ground like so many wishing stars around Eternatus. The warrior standing at his gym leader’s podium is that ore refined into a blade.[break][break]
“I miss getting to pull stunts like that.” His hand goes for Ironsides’s last feather, the only remains of him on this mortal coil. “What I’d give to have my Skarmory back.” Talking to someone who didn’t know Ironsides all that well affords him a certain level of detachment, the capacity to talk about him with all the intimacy the words would carry were he talking to, say, kyle lopez.[break][break]
“Hey, don’t slack off down there!” He admonishes Gramps. Caught in the sandstorm, unable to locate the nebulous Gabite, Gramps throws up a light screen. It keeps some of the harmful sand away from him, but not enough. Somewhere in the sandstorm sits the veiled Gabite. Navy prays Gramps will be able to see him before the inevitable attack.
