Wordless, Damien climbed into the back of the cab, ignoring the teasing that was cut off by the slam of the car door. [break][break]

He was just trying to get through this and get on with his life. The fact that Frank had the fucking balls to show up all smiling and fucking teary-eyed instead of groveling at Damien's feet was a goddamn insult. [break][break]

It grated at him. Caused his teeth to clench, his gloved grip to tighten. [break][break]

The talk of work made it even worse. Damien couldn't hide his scowl as he responded, monotone:[break][break]

"Congrats." Somehow the salutation sounded like anything but. He didn't linger on the topic, either.[break][break]

"I'm bartending again." Damien hadn't done it in a long time. Not since before he became more active helping with Frank Caffey's criminal exploits back home. But that era was over now.[break][break]

That wasn't all, though. Desperate times had called for alternate avenues to earn money.[break][break]

"And... other side jobs."[break][break]

He leaned as far away from Frank as possible, propping his head on the glass window and watching as cars passed by.

damien russo has lived a shit life. drug addict parents. six? seven? younger siblings. he’d honestly lost count after they pumped out the last few. you get numb to that kind of crap when your world revolves around the needs of others.

constantly hustling, damien grew up in one of the worst neighborhoods in black city, unova. between odd jobs to help pay rent and put food on the table he barely got his high school diploma, let alone a normal fucking childhood. there's no time to focus on being a kid when you're always scrounging to make ends meet.

but there was never enough money. pressure from the criminal elements in his neighborhood and a need to provide meant damien had to stoop lower and lower for a paycheck. he was the poster child for the ideal ROCKET recruit – dumb and desperate.

CATTY BITCH || damien's one of those love-him-or-hate kind of guys. he's got a callous attitude with a mouth to match. some find it funny, others endearing, but most people just think he's an asshole. i'm open to ribbing friendships or contentious rivalries!

FUCK THAT GUY || no, really. damien's life has been one shitty, fucked up event after the other. plus, he feels an immense amount of pressure to provide for his family back home. meaningless sex is a way to distract from all that. i'm open to one night stands or longer plots! the more toxic the better ♡

When their eyes met, and Frank smiled that damn radiant smile, Damien was struck hard in place. Frank Caffey's presence demanded absolute attention — it was a sort of gravitational force that pulled at his mind, his body, his willpower.[break][break]

Damien broke eye contact first. Looked down at the scummy laminate tiles. It was all he could do in the moment to maintain some semblance of control. [break][break]

But then came the hug. Strong arms — a familiar touch, even after all this time — embraced him, exuding a warmth that Damien hadn't felt in so, so long. [break][break]

He stiffened immediately. Didn't move, deer in the headlights, all that shit. His face pressed into Frank's shoulder and — fucking hell, how the fuck could he smell the same? [break][break]

"Taxi's—" Damien's voice was muffled by fabric.[break][break]

"...side." Finally, his arms moved. Not to hug, but to press against Frank's chest and (softly yet firmly) push him away. "Outside."[break][break]

He then turned on his heel and wheeled around unceremoniously, heading for the airport's exit.

Three years. DAMIEN RUSSO hadn't seen Frank Caffey in three fucking years. [break][break]

His hair was longer than before. [break][break]

White had creeped up as the years had passed, taking over the inky-black waves that Frank might remember. Damien's skin, while already naturally pale, had even more splotches devoid of pigment than when he was younger — at least from what could be seen, anyway. [break][break]

Much of Damien's body was covered by an over-large coat and a dark turtleneck sweater, making it easy to blend in with the crowd of people waiting for their loved ones to arrive.[break][break]

While so many of them seemed overjoyed at the prospect of reunion, Damien's facial expression gave nothing away. He didn't have a sign. Didn't look around expectantly. Didn't even glance up when the doors opened and travelers spilled into the lobby. [break][break]

He took a hesitant step backwards.[break][break]
