The battle for this evening would be unofficial - the badge would be, hopefully, but Emma had requested a privatized battle out of the public eye entirely. Her use of her not recently acquired but more recently used shadow Zoroark would be her partner for this task. She had trained Katherine herself, and she intended to find out just how strong the woman had become.[break][break]

She was proud of her, deep down, though she'd never admit to it. Emma was a prideful beast, but perhaps the woman's pride in her pupil would be evident in the fact that she'd even bothered to show up. Katherine's official training was over, this was now a test of strength and merit - and for herself, as well.[break][break]

In an open palm, Emma rolls a dark-tinted pokeball across her fingers. She glances up as Katherine approaches, and she squeezes the ball in her hand. [break][break]

Emma's position within Rocket was straightforward: she was a glorified P.E. teacher or military superior. She ran the grunts through training, brought them to hell and back, and often got looked down on as some sort of insensitive monster. Which wasn't entirely untrue, she was an insensitive monster most of the time. But this time she did it for good reason - because it was her job. Rocket needed reliable pawns, not whatever the fuck they had going for them right now.[break][break]

Honestly, she looked worse because of how incapable some of the new recruits seemed to be.[break][break]

But she expected better from Gavin's sister, this was just not the kind of mission warranting any show of prowess. Perhaps that was what made her so agitated, the sheer mundaneness of their task. That, and the fact that upon arrival, Lulu insisted on a handshake greeting. Emma sees through the forced smile and ultimately does not make any move to reciprocate the handshake, instead choosing to keep her hands to herself. The woman instead regards Lulu with a cautious gaze, her expression guarded.[break][break]

"Likewise."[break][break]

There is a moment of awkward silence on Lulu's end that Emma avoids like the plague, instead choosing to break apart from the woman and head toward their destination. One brief glance is cast over her shoulder at the admittance of ignorance. [break][break]

"They're Castform. Glorified clouds we use to change the weather artificially. They're still Pokemon though, so don't underestimate their strength."[break][break]

She squints at the group of them. The docket said that they had names and would answer to them. Something told her that wasn't necessarily true. They already looked like annoying little spitfire trouble-makers.[break][break]

"Apparently they respond to the names: Koga, Janine, Roxie, Plumeria, and Klara."[break][break]

She scoffs, shaking her head before looking back at Lulu.[break][break]

"So? How would you go about rounding them up?"[break][break]

The kiss shared between them is brief and she lays the blame on the squirming kitten between them. It's more likely her own discomfort with such a public display of affection - but she had instigated it. As she draws away, she takes a brief glance through the crowd, her eyes passing over the young man who would eventually come to join them.[break][break]

Curiosity glitters behind dark eyes as she watches Adrian Malcolm approach with a muddled pun. The woman remains indifferent, however, showing no indication she was either amused or understood the joke. Gavin's cheeky grin actually encourages her face to strain into something akin to a grimace. [break][break]

Was he bragging? [break][break]

Her attention passes back over the kitten as she realizes it's a different colour than the majority. But she really doesn't care one way or the other. It was another mouth to feed and a baby mouth at that - she was not overly thrilled to be doting over it later. Gavin was a softie, it'd most likely end up sleeping in the bed with them, or something.[break][break]

It's an exquisite day outside and she appears to be captivated by it. She'd almost rather be outside enjoying it than cooped up inside the stuffy, marvelously cold building she was in. The lack of decorations was jarring, at least to her. An exaggerated attempt to highlight the beauty of architecture - but no real symbol of familiarity. It smelled like a new building, a place someone might visit only for a moment to take a few aesthetic photos and then immediately leave for the sanctuary of home.[break][break]

It reminded her too much of home, she decided. It's stoic beauty was overwhelming, a glimpse into the life of wealth and pride that she had never taken interest in. With a quiet exhale, Emma glances back over her shoulder just as the young miss Desmarais arrives on scene. The woman offers the pinkette a brief smile in exchange for the handshake. Her own hand reaches out briefly for a fleeting handshake before she separates herself once again.[break][break]

Her hand is, incidentally, glued to her abdomen as a result of the Galvantula's string-shot. It manages to stifle the bleeding, however, at least until Thomas is able to get her to safety. Her hand remains glued to his as he strings her along, keeping her safe. But her consciousness slips in and out with black spots in her peripherals. [break][break]

The woman's breathing is labored as she struggles to keep her focus on him. He calls for his Pokemon and suddenly they're teleporting. Her body is no longer in her control and, on the other side, she is a sack of potatoes in the man's arms as he helps her inside. When he calls for Eleanor, she is unconscious.[break][break]

Oscar's sheepish recoil was overlooked and ignored, mostly because Emma was oblivious to other's social anxiety and because she hadn't really put much thought into how she came across. She was on a mission, a little less thrilled to be on said mission, and now she had a gas mask restricting her breathing.[break][break]

And so, until her partner speaks out loud, Emma has almost certainly forgotten he even existed.[break][break]

The look she gives him, as a result, is a slow blink followed by a breathy exhale.[break][break]

It definitely seemed like something old Rocket would have done. Poison the water supply, make it difficult to transport supplies in and out of the city, etcetera, etcetera. Now they were paying the price because - turns out - it was a bad idea. Who'd have thought? Now it was more of a hindrance for Rocket than it was for the city.[break][break]

While Oscar was the conversational type, Emma was absolutely not. Even still, it appeared that his attempts at getting the ball rolling were working.. miraculously.[break][break]

He gestures for her to look up to the ceiling and she does, one hand held out to stop him in case he steps forward. The man's flashlight illuminates the wall of Grimer and she shields her look of disgust well behind her mask. [break][break]

Emma glances over at him then, a deadpan expression on her face.[break][break]

"Please tell me you have something to deal with this mess."[break][break]

Because apparently Emma did not - psychic-types were not her forte, for some reason. [break][break]

She hadn't expected their conversation to take such a turn, but it had.[break][break]

In one breath he is lacing his fingers through hers and squeezing, and she can feel this mutual trust flow through her with a sense of warmth, of security. And the next, he looks at her with a look of concern and skepticism. She can see that his question warrants confusion, disbelief - and yet he asks her anyway.[break][break]

The look in his eye says it all, the flash of discomfort, that faraway look of anger. It isn't directed at her, but it might as well be, because it involves her. Although his grip doesn't remain tight, it feels tight. She doesn't pull away, however, but hangs in the balance.[break][break]

Her attempt to stop him is weak and she watches him with a look of discomfort, irritation, stress. Something she can't pinpoint because it still doesn't make sense to her, why even bring it up?[break][break]

His growl sparks a sigh, her lips curling up into a devious smile. That smile is soon devoured by his hunger and she is unashamed of her own voracious desire. Every brush of his fingers against her skin is like electricity coursing through her veins. The following embrace is painful and yet satisfying as she melts against him. Her forehead seeks shelter and comfort in the hollow of his neck and she is comforted by his chin resting against her shoulder.[break][break]

She sighs once again, relieved, satisfied, happy.[break][break]

Their moment is fleeting and then he pulls away to look at the marks she's left, the trail of love, affection. Her fingers gently brush his new scars, the touch is fleeting, comforting. He would find a satisfied smile on her face when she finds his eyes again. His own hand brushes her neck and she leans into it, placing a kiss against his fingers.[break][break]

Emma glances back up, heartbeat fluttering at the use of her nickname. The way he spells it out is different than the way it had been spoken before. She exhales against his mouth, but she's mouthing words despite his kiss.[break][break]

Her tone is flat as she says this, her chin gesturing behind her. The beast's spiders have already begun pulling the pirates up from the bottom of the deck. [break][break]

And then she begins helping her Pokemon toss people overboard. Their bounds would be cut in the process or melted away upon hitting the water. But otherwise, the ship was overtaken by Rocket and would be safely transported to the submarine without a hitch.[break][break]

She doesn't press it, as much as she'd like to. Instead, she exhales a short, irritated huff. But she takes the lead regardless because she's stubborn. If he won't talk, she won't keep at him. Not yet, anyway. There are more pressing matters than arguing with her closest companion.[break][break]

Upon entering, she unhooks her Crobat from her belt. The tiny bat makes short work of scouting ahead and, on the return, is accompanied by the woman's Salazzle. Together, they manage to CONFUSE and DISABLE the Weezing, effectively protecting the pair of squishy humans from harm. [break][break]

And for now, the two of them walk in silence, the tense energy just building.[break][break]
