"Huh?" Gwen looked up after being shocked by the Chargabug to see a giant Pokemon looming above them. The fierce tendrils of black...things and electricity popping around them. The lights were still off, yet the both of them could only make out the smaller bodies of Pokemon surrounding.

Ones that weren't moving.

The sight of them had spooked the trainee. Gwendolyn gasped and trembled in surprise, backing away as she tripped over the corpse of a fallen Vikavolt. The sight of which had elicited a sudden shriek from the girl.

"D-Dead! They're...dead."

Gwen began to back away from the godly beast that they had been facing off with. Her balance had been upset by the sudden discovery as she was now crawling backwards and starting to panic.

The small growls and hisses of the Gabite near her while Gwen was up on the roof, trying to carefully collect some of the nests seated on the roof of the PokeMart. The birds in Lavaridge, for whatever reason, had been high active as of late for a reason that she couldn't really understand. Nests were all around the town and somebody had to do something!

"Gishath, no." She said sternly, trying to reach another bird nest while her partner was hunting for eggs. "They're not for eating. Get away from the nests." Gwen warned then continued cleaning up the rooftops.

The Gabite threw a small tantrum and huffed before spotting another person looking up at one of the nests. Seeing this as an opportunity, the Gabite waddled over towards Jethro until he was a few feet away. The Pokemon then waited with his eyes latched onto Jethro, waiting for him to retrieve the bird's nest.

A few minutes after starting and they had uncovered their first Pokemon just standing out in the wild. A long Yamask that was currently floating around one of the fields around the safari zone. Gwen parked inside of a bush that overlooked the girl as she and Gishath would go over a game plan.

"Alright, so I was thinking you could sneak up and take it out quietly for a quick KO. But do you think Dragon Claw or Metal Claw would be better?"

The Gabite answered by jumping out of the bush and running directly at the Yamask in a fury. He reared his head back and unleashed a torrent of flames that engulfed the ghost type's form, using DRAGON BREATH. After the blast of fire, the Yamask countered with a SLAM of its own! It pushed Gishath back, but the force of his tough skin and hurt the Pokemon from its connection.

"Attaboy, Gishath!" Gwen yelled, throwing out a safari ball at the wounded Pokemon.

Boy, he was turning out to be a real case for an officer. Gwen's expression soured a bit as she began to pout at the other man. Usually people had shared her enthusiasm for learning as much as she did, but he could care less about it. The mood lingered for a moment before she moved on with him with baskets in hand.

Gishath continued to waddle beside her. He might have grown interested in a berry bush or been preoccupied with chasing around a bird that had landed just up ahead,, but all things considered, he was behaving for a change. The Gabite even sniffed at some of the eggs inside of the basket and tried to taste one before Gwen pulled it up from him.

"So, where are you from? I'm from Sinnoh with my friend. We got here about a year ago and have been loving it since. Even became rangers together!"

Gwendolyn closed her eyes and braced herself for impact of the wall, only to be saved at the last moment by Ameena and her Pokemon by a timely intervention. She breathed a sigh of relief, then went right back into panicking as the Magneton had suddenly collided with the pylon and knock the city into a sprawling darkness. The Magneton was also likely stuck there, wriggling around for help.

"Phew! Ameena, you're a life saver." Gwen smiled at the other woman, "I would have been fried if not for you!"

The dead city had continued on as they arrived. Lights flickered every now and again in an irregular pattern. Sounds of crunchy and crackling electricity were echoed all around the area. Gwen wanted to explore around to her heart's delight as much as she could, though bound only by the reason they had come in the first place. She activated the device again and began to lead the way.

The advanced radar had began to ping different energy signatures around them. The reading was hazy, but it was the start of something!

"I'm getting something now! It's just telling me different types, but most of them are electric."

She stopped by a lone Chargabug, currently pulling on an exposed wire and feasting on the copper innards that littered it. The display was cute, and she did have to kneel down and pet it out of the cute display.

The resulting electric shock she received was more than enough of a lesson to not do it again.

Around them, the low hum of wings had grown louder and numerous. The Radar on the ground showed multiple high energy readings closing in one them, and the readings danger level off to the side was peaked at a category 5 incident.

Gwendolyn had arrived in front of the safari zone with excitement abound. She hadn't really ever tried one of these Safari excursions just yet, only hearing them secondhand from Robin or somebody else, but it was exciting to imagine what fun she could have in here! The woman had picked up her safari balls from the front desk and gotten herself all prepared for the fun ahead.

"Heh, it's nice to me- Whoa!"

Not even one second touched and and already, Gwendolyn was having work shoved into her face. The Aspiring Professor was quick to catch the bundle of eggs while ensuring that each and every one wouldn't have been impacted any by the forces interacting with them. Once everyone was taken care of, she looked back at the other man.

He was certainly a type of person. As for what kind of type that was, it had yet to be seen. She still believed that his heart was in the right place. After all, why join the Rangers if you didn't have somebody's best interest in mind? Besides her, anyway. He just lit up a cigarette and precoded to smoke away.

"You're actually half right." Gwen said, holding the eggs up with a hand so full of caution that they could have been her own eggs.

"Pokemon eggs have a tendency to react to certain vibrations in the environment around them. So while you were speaking, they probably mistook you for a parent of some kind. I can't say how far along they are into growing up, but they seem pretty well along."

Gwen had been enjoying a morning coffee with Gishath grumbling about being woken up so early, as a night owl Gabite would be. He hissed up at his owner while teeth on the chair, only to receive a hand scratching at his scales in return. She had planned on just being content back at HQ for the day, but when the call came in that she was to assist a Ranger out in the field, she was quick to jump to it. A few minutes after the request, a large Pidgeot had arrived to pick Gwen up and deliver her to the site of which Ranger needed help.

The fresh Rookie arrived, landing in front of Montgomery and hopping off alongside her companion. The Gabite waddled alongside his trainer while Gwen offered a wave to the other man as she walked closer.

"Sorry to keep you waiting! I'm Gwen, one of the other younger Rangers around here."

She offered her hand for him to shake, if he so wanted to. Gishath, meanwhile, would lock eyes with the Skarmory in a muted indifference. He didn't antagonize or anything, but did wander closer to sniff at the steel-type's wings at out interest.

"Are the eggs doing alright?"

A Voltorb didn't seem too thrilled to stumble upon them during its morning stroll. Gishath likely would have started to bite on it had it not began to glow a bright color. FOrtunately, Ameena had sent it flying into the air before exploding into a shower of particles and colors. "Thanks for the save, Ameena!" She gave a peppy nod and followed the other woman further into the electric wasteland.

She pulled out her recent little doohicky, a retrofitted radar that was supposed to pick up on the energy that Pokemon exhibited and use it as a basis to display how far they were from the user. It was an expanded upon idea for the proprietary ones that Rangers were issued, but with a few modifications to access things like the size and density of the energy signatures.

"Right! Activating now!" She pressed the power button as the screen lit up and...

It didn't show anything. Nothing at all. She frowned, then pressed the scan button again. And again. Perhaps a third time? Fourth?

"Hm, it must not be getting anything. Any ideas?"

The ever helpful Ameena was quick to offer a solution. Magneton could definitely offer some help for stuff like this! She tossed them out and carefully climbed on top of it before they quickly hovered into the air. Gishath stood beside Amenna, keeping his eye on her with a soft hiss. There was a weak signal, but nothing too out of line.

"Higher, guys! Use MAGNET RISE!"

Gwen shot up into the air and tried again, and this time, it worked! It was picking signals from other Pokemon! She cheered, waving up in the air, before soon, her and the Magneton were then sent hurling towards one of the giant metal pillars. She yelled out and held onto her Magneton for dear life.

15 "fucking magnets, how do they work?" (i.e. use magnetism in some way)

Ultra Space was even more wild than the last time she had entered it. This time, Gwendolyn had come alongside the woman she had met before to fix up some of the pieces of her technology that she had "enhanced" without prior authorization from the Ranger heads. She couldn't submit a work order request and then let them know what she had been up to, and instead, opted to simply find a fix for them elsewhere. Ameena had been a huge help to her efforts in such, and Gwen was happy as a clam to come here.

They entered and quite the change in scenery greeted them. It was an industrial area that sprawled all over the entire landscape, with massive pylons and structures that didn't seem to have an end in sight. Electricity crackled through each and every little surface here. Gwen would have thought that they were in some sort of strange little laptop by what was here.

"This is pretty cool, if not for the electricity in the air." she said, forgoing glasses after getting elbowed in the face and opting for contacts instead. "I can't imagine what's going to be lurking around here. I don't see any natural life anywhere."

Her longer hair was fraying due to the latent electrical charge, which was thankfully combed by the ever helpful Ammena. She smiled in appreciation and maybe even blushed a tad. After getting it done good enough, she led the way further into the metallic wonderland.

"Where do you think is a good testing site for this thing? There's some open areas, but most of this place is just a maze..."

SNAP!

Robin's elbow met its mark against the bridge of Gwen's nose, complete with the sound of her glasses cracking into two and landing on the ground beneath her. The force of the blow had knocked her back off of Robin and left her holding her nose in pain. The act hadn't gone unnoticed as Robin quickly saw what she had done. ENough so that she did finally get off the evil scientist.

To her relief, the man hadn't died at the hands of one angry woman, and instead would be subjected to a poison jab further down the line.

"I'm fine." Gwen said, her voice stuffed up as a trickle of blood ran from her nose. "I couldn't let you- I-If you had ended up killing him..."

Robin would have never forgave herself for it. Anybody could say that they'd just openly kill somebody for their actions, but very few would be able to cross that line when the moment came for them. She had seen Robin beforehand, and couldn't let her go down that path again, even if it meant sparing a monster from some overdue pain.

Robin's knuckles on her cheek had caused Gwen's face to flush once more. She looked up at her friend with barren eyes and exhaled, then wrapped her arms around the wavering girl.

"I've seen what happens to people...when they take things like you do. They end up uncaring, merciless and miserable. I can't see you go down like they did, Robin."

Her hand reached out to put her hand on top of Robin's own cheek, her thumb gently tracing circles around her troubled looking face.

"I can live without glasses, but we need to focus on the Type: Null first."

The head scientist had been attacked by the ELECTRO ORB and fell to the ground in a convulsing, fried mess. Before she could speak, Robin was right there and ready to tussle with the professor. She screamed at him, and for good reason. Gwen didn't dare to interfere between the not so psychic and her target of rage. Any person in her position would have done the same.

But then she started swinging, throwing punches left and right at the man's face. Gwen flinched as every blow connected and let Robin continue on before she began to frown. She was losing control all through this mission and this was the proverbial breaking point.

But he did deserve this. Nobody should dare to do what had been done countless times, and would continue to do so. Should she stop her before something even worse happened? What if she was accused of siding with them?

But something in her gut told her that it had to stop.

"Robin!" Gwen called, walking over to the hysterical ranger as she continued past the fifth or sixth punch. "Stop! Robin?!"

She wouldn't relent and Gwen had to physically stop her. She held back her friend by the arms, trying to at least stop her assault. Her uncertain fingers wrapped around her friend's arms and tried to pry her off of him, directly in the line of fire.

"You're going to kill him! You need to stop!"
