He tapped some of the ash from his cigarette, dropping silently to the ground. "War's never a good thing. But waiting for it to happen is just as bad as the actual fight."

Montgomery looked back to her, shrugging. "It's doin' its best. The same as every other city in the region, though I suppose these areas were hit harder."

Dewford would be fine. He thought, at least. "We have a good team there."

[attr="class","monty"]The councilwoman's hair was a BRILLIANT red, decorated with beds and pulled back just enough to avoid falling in her face. Despite that, she looked rather... normal.

Montgomery wondered if he should pull his hair in some medieval fashion as well.

"If my schedule's correct, there should be a fencing show starting in the next few minutes across the way. If you're interested in seein' that, we could head that way."

His long arms extended, indicating to a few of the stalls. "There's also some damn good food, if I do say so myself."

"Leave Rocket behind and turn 'good'?"

He looked at him this time, tilting his head. "I wanna say that I did. I used to be as ruthless as her. That Hana girl. But, if I'm bein' honest..."

He sighed. "I don't know if I'm feelin' much like a 'good guy.'"

Though he had to hope himself, wondering if someone like ameena abadi could switch sides. Would she for him?

The thought made him nauseous. "I didn't plan on dyin' so easily, Sheriff. I may be new to WAR, but I can fight."

To say he was SURPRISED was an understatement. There was shock in his gaze.

"You mean you've had 'er waiting in a ball this entire time, and we could've gotten this sooner?" Of course, he didn't know his sentiment toward the Pokemon. Unlike him, Montgomery found most of his Pokemon used for utility over anything else.

Assisted with the KROOKADILE, the attackers were quickly erased. There was a ceasefire.

"Careful. There still may people around."

Well, if that's what she felt.

"Fine. Next time, I'll leave you to fuckin' die. Happy?"

He didn't mean it. He really didn't mean it. But this was what he knew: spit venom back to protect himself.

"Your statement has been recorded. Safe recovery, Miss Abadi."

With too much force, Montgomery swung the door open and allowed it to shut with a loud slam, tucking his hands in his pockets as he exited the ward.

"James to dispatch. Situation has been cleared. I'm on my way back."

[attr="class","monty"]The first thing she said came unexpectedly. It left a bitter taste in his mouth as he frowned, regarding her with nearly unreadable eyes.

If she looked hard enough, she'd see how upset Montgomery became.

"I didn't make a promise," he told her, standing from the side of the bed and taking a stride away. He felt the urgent need to build up his walls again to ensure he's psyche wasn't compromised by how much her words hurt.

But, there was a ball of anger in his gut.

"What, so I'm supposeta leave you out there for that beast to kill you and MUSHARNA, instead of doin' my job and helpin' you?" It felt sick when he called talking care of Ameena "a job."

"You have broken ribs. You needed medical treatment! I did what any other random person would do. And as far as they're aware, they think I'm stayin' to investigate the creature and take your statement when you wake up."

[attr="class","monty"]Montgomery didn't stir, not until Ameena tossed a pillow at him. Only then did he lift his head, blinking sleep from his eyes, and realized...

She was okay. Or, as okay as she could be with a few broken ribs and injuries.

"Someone seems pretty energetic despite the broken bones 'n bruises." He smirked, standing on his feet and coming to sit on the side of the bed.

His hand reached out, brushing hair from her face.

"How're ya feelin'?"

And Ameena made it easier for him to get her to safety: her body fell over, passing out from the loss of adrenaline, blood, and overall exhaustion.

Sweeping her up in his arms, Montgomery motioned for his Pokemon to follow them. EMS was already at the front of the Route. Avoiding many details, he informed them he had received a distressed call to investigate a strange phenomena. That this woman he didn't know (ameena abadi), was caught in the chaos.

How easily they could be fooled. They happened to believe that she was just passing through on a walk when she had been attacked.

Yet, Montgomery nearly refused to exit the ambulance, only leaving to make a point that he didn't know her. He followed them closely behind in his own patrol car.
