[attr="class","monty"]Dewford Town had peace at the moment. Still, tension was in the air, sharp enough to cut through like a knife. The war, at the moment, was in standstill.

That didn't stop work for Montgomery.

If anything, the man became more and more busy with work. It was... annoying, given that he had a desire to see his lover more and more. Since that night with ameena abadi, his mind was more preoccupied with her, rather than doing his duty.

He was down bad. Hard.

Regardless, he had to keep moving, like she did. Montgomery decided to go on break, pulling his box of cigarettes out of his pocket and withdrawing one. It was unlit between his lips as he walked outside, his lighter appearing in hand.

The door almost swung into a person. He opened his mouth to apologize, until he realized...

Montgomery took a hold of her arm, murmuring it was going to hurt for a second — he'd had many a dislocated joint. He counted down, pulling her arm up and back into its socket.

"James to dispatch. I have an injured civilian in the field. Send in EMS STAT. Route 105, toward the entrance," he called on his radio, looking at the beast.

It swung its enormous paws at his ZOROARK, who'd used a NASTY PLOT to manage the dodges quicker than he would have been before. And laying nearby, away from the paws of death, was...

MUSHARNA. Shit. He couldn't leave her there.

Turning to Ameena, Montgomery held her chin up to look at him. "Listen to me. If you can walk, start moving to the entrance of the route. I'll be right behind ya."

Hopefully, she'd obey his order. Pressing a kiss to her forehead, despite the public setting, he took off, running toward the beast. Its glow hurt his eyes, but he had his sights on his target. He'd swiped a Poke ball from nearby Ameena, hoping it was Moira's ball, and threw it forward.

All while he pulled his gun and shot blanks at the bear to draw its attention away. "Hey, ya motherfucker! Get outta here!"

[attr="class","monty"]Montgomery received a call to investigate Route 105. There was an unusual phenomena occurring, and he had to ensure that citizens and the like were evacuated from the area.

DESCRIPTION: Large, golden Pokemon have appeared in the area. Please approach with caution: highly aggressive. Unknown origin.

What he expected to see when he arrived was a scenery of panicked civilians and trainers who meandered along the path, maybe a few rangers aiding the cause.

What he did not expect was to see a lone figure, beaten, bloodied, and alarmingly still. ameena abadi.

Immediately, panic gripped his chest. Montgomery didn't give a shit about his own safety in that moment, lunging forward and throwing a Poke ball: his newly acquired HISUIAN ZOROARK appeared, attempting to create an ILLUSION of his own. Instead, he appeared just like a normal URSALUNA.

It was merely a distraction in that moment, as his legs carried him over to her. "'Meena! Fuck, are you okay?"

[attr="class","monty"]It was a shame she had to go. Montgomery didn't argue. He needed to get to the station at some point soon as well. They'd probably want some update on the situation he was investigating in Lavaridge.

That still didn't stop him from pouting.

"Alright, alright. I suppose I'll let ya off the hook... this time. Consider it a warning." He couldn't help himself, teasing her.

He'd climb out of bed, leaning to grab a new pair of underwear on and rummaging to grab his uniform. He'd allow her to get ready as well, but before she could leave, he grabbed her hand again.

Montgomery pulled her close, pressing his body to hers as he kissed her one last time. Consider it a promise for more. "Stay safe, okay? And come by whenever."

Who the fuck cared. If he could make her happy, he was content.

"I've run away once. I don't think I can consciously do it again," he admitted. "But, if I could make it a reality, I would take you with me, somewhere far from the war, the League, and Rocket. Somewhere we could live without a single damn worry in the world."

It was wishful thinking. But, it eased him that she was here now. Even if he had to lie to the world, he'd do it again and again.

Is that what love felt like?

Resting his forehead to hers, he smiled. "I'm here." "I'll always be here."

He leaned away, looking at the alarm clock. "Do ya wanna eat? I have fresh eggs in the coop. Coffee, bacon, whatever ya want."

Though, Montgomery paused briefly. He considered everything she asked him, what he wanted. What did he want?

"I want you." Call him cheesy. But in that moment, there was nothing else he could imagine wanting more than Ameena. Last night made it clear enough to him that all the tension they had, it could be melted away into nothingness.

She made him feel found. There was a sense of peace in her embrace.

Montgomery looked at her from the corner of his eye, gauging her reaction before sliding back into the bed. No longer was his body taut with apprehension, as he curled an arm across her waist and buried his face against her neck. She smelled like the field of flowers in his dreams.

Perhaps he was imagining it.

"I want to be free."

[attr="class","monty"]There was something that she wasn't sharing. That was okay. Montgomery wasn't the type of person to share his life story to others. Regardless, there was something underneath that was making this situation rather concerning.

Maybe he'd give some files a look into when he got back to the station.

Her request for his advice took him by surprise. "Honestly? Ya probably don't wanna ask me that."

Driftveil City. His family. Rocket. Everything, turned on its head and then left to burn to ashes not even two years ago. The wound was still fresh.

"I've been in yer shoes before. But instead of handlin' my issues, I ran away from 'em like a coward. I thought that maybe, if I became a new person, I wouldn't have ta think about what happened."

Montgomery took that as an invitation to sit down, despite the dust-covered ground. He flicked a cigarette from his pack, tucking it between his lips and lighting it.

"Time. That's the shitty answer. Y'know, the saying, time heals all wounds? It does, eventually. But it can take years or seem like forever. And, talkin' about it, to someone you trust. Like, I assume, that lam logan fella."

He's a hypocrite for saying it all, thinking his life could change just because he switched alliances, became a deputy, and left Unova. In reality, Unova still haunted him. Little did he know that remnants came to Hoenn, such as his relationship with howard slayte.

"Though, even I know that sometimes, that's all bullshit. So ya just... try to do yer best to live each day."

[attr="class","monty"]lam logan was not someone Montgomery had ever recalled meeting. Of course, he knew that he held a position in the gyms of Hoenn. He hoped that he was there to take care of Robin.

"Dewford has plenty of other officers that can help. I decided that Lilycove could use the extra help," he answered.

And, the fact he was avoiding Mossdeep and ameena abadi, despite the yearning in his body that told him to go find her.

His own Pokemon decided to aid her ILLUMINA RUINERIGUS, picking up the low wires in her beak after the ghost had disconnected the power source. She was able to lift them away, clearing one of the hazards on the ground while illuminating the sky.

"You wanna talk about it?" he prompted.

[attr="class","monty"]Robin was... different than before. Where the first time he'd met her she was perky and full of life, she seemed to be a shell of her former self. She appeared almost as ghastly as her favored ghosts.

What had happened to her during the war?

"In Lilycove?" Montgomery asked, raising his eyebrow. "You moved?"

He would be a better man if he'd learned to stop asking so many questions.

"Unfortunately, water's just about as deadly, if not more. I was all too familiar with it in Driftveil." The stormy seasons, threatening to bring colossal waves upon the citizens and their homes. Equally as agitated water-types beached in the process.

If he thought hard enough, he would assume he meant the Rocket woman he'd fought.

"That Rocket lady? Nothin', as far as I know. I saw her come in to attack you, and I did what I was called to do. Luck wasn't on my side that battle," Montgomery answered, indicating to his wounded leg, the cut on his throat, and several other identifiable marks.

"You had more important things to handle than a Rocket grunt. You 'n ZACIAN."

Montgomery was tiptoeing around the fact he'd wanted to murder her as she taunted him. Even avoiding the fact that for a brief moment, maybe he had wanted her to end him.

[attr="class","monty"]Upon seeing the sheriff, an immense feeling of guilt consumed Montgomery. No longer did the annoying beeping bother him. In fact, he hardly registered that the nurse turned off the sound, primed a new bag of fluid, and left.

He tried to hide his shame. But Navy always seemed to see right through him.

"I dunno. Maybe a few more days to make sure everything's healin' alright. It's better than it was before," he replied, refusing to look at him.

Did he know that Montgomery had almost broken his promise? Did Navy see the blood thirst that had overcome him as Aoki Hana drew her blades on him? And did he know about his encounter with ameena abadi?

He couldn't help but panic at the idea.

"Glad to see yer okay." Physically.

[attr="class","monty"]Building and support took precedence after the events of the war. But there was one place he refused to step foot in, at least not now.

So, when he was asked to help with reconstruction, Montgomery happily agreed... so long as he didn't go to Mossdeep.

His time there with ameena abadi before the main battle still lingered in his mind. He wasn't ready to revisit the scene. And, although he and the Rocket scientist had, in a way, rectified their differences, images of the interdream mist lingered. How she saw his wants and desires, before they were faced with one another again.

Montgomery was not in uniform today. Rather, a black button down, with the sleeves rolled to his elbows, jeans, and his hat were his outfit of choice. Sweat dripped down his neck as he moved debris, his ILLUMINA SKARMORY flying beside him.

There was sadness dimming her glow.

Catching his eye, he spotted robin coello, a ranger he'd only briefly met before. "Robin. Good to see ya made it here."

He pointed to the car, which somehow managed to avoid the catastrophic damage from the angry GYARADOS. "I left 'em in there! I figured I didn't need 'em since I was, you know, drinking!"

Montgomery held his pistol, hiding behind a piece of concrete that had become upturned.

"Anything! Draw its attention away from me. Like... this!" He shot the Pokemon, which hardly did damage to it. But it roared, regardless, attempting to swoop forward where he had been.

Hopefully he didn't touch his ass in the process. If he did, it was an accident.

"Ya okay?" The UNOWN swarmed them, eyes blinking until the finally left this part of the simulation.
