However, her gaze caught sight of a mangled tenacool, red seeping into the water. And, in the woman's hand, there was a surgical blade, a few drops of blood slipping off onto the ground below.

It was all stained horribly red.

She narrowed her eyes, a hand lowering and hovering where her Poke balls rested.

"What do you think you're doing?"

"Keep it open! Hold on..."

She snatched the scent she'd been working on, darting forward to where Keiko was. And she ran, taking it down the street-

And leaving it.

Selene watched them draw close, sighing in relief as she walked back to the shop door. "You're my savior."

[attr="class","selene"]The card he waved between his fingers was enough of an invitation for her to step forward. Slowly, Selene came closer, stopping when her knees could press close to his back. Close enough for him to grab her and pull her against him.

She knelt down to the side of him, settling beside him on the ground. There was a small breadth of space she left between them, but he felt like an ocean away.

Selene was then very conscious of how close their knees were.

"Why now?" she asked him, staring ahead at the gravestones rather than at him. Because she knew, if she was this close and looked at him-

She'd break. She'd become selfish and hurt him again.

"I'm sorry. You don't need to answer my question."

She reeled herself in, becoming distant like he was. It was a sad attempt to push him away, even though she was the one who stepped over the boundary by sitting beside him.

[attr="class","selene"]Selene didn't expect to be beaten here. Nor did she expect to see Wyatt at the graveside when she was on her way to pay her respects. Truly, she was going to find a spot to sit down at and pray.

She didn't know that their graves had been moved.

So, when she spotted Wyatt, sitting in front of two headstones, she froze. A part of her told her to leave. He deserved time alone with his family and to grieve.

But, if she left... when would she see him again?

In the end, it was a selfish decision that drove Selene to walk forward, incense in hand, and stop behind him. If she had been his lover, she would've touched his back to announce her presence. She wanted to hold him tight.

Instead, she cleared her throat.

"I didn't expect to run into you."

Selene was convinced that Wyatt Rodgers wasn't interested in seeing her again. It didn't matter that they weren't a couple anymore — she missed her friend, and to see him so closed off, shut down, and hiding his emotions... it broke her heart.

But, if he moved along, she needed to too. One happenstance meeting shouldn't ruin the progress she'd made in kalos.

Sitting at one of the shrines alongside Mt. Pyre, Selene lit an incense. Most people came her to pray over their deceased Pokemon.

She was there for something else.

She wrote down measurements as she worked, noting what worked and what didn't. Her thoughts were interrupted by the dinging of the door's bell.

If such a list existed.

She was interested in recreating some of the scents that Pokemon gave off naturally, and this fairy line was the perfect opportunity for her to test her skills. From her textbooks in school, they spoke on how royalty would carry these Pokemon around as perfume.

They all had a different smell as well. It was a diet-based smell, and Selene was tracking down the scent of pecha berries. Finally, she came across a small swarm of them.

Sitting to the side of them, she began dictating notes, describing fragrance and notes she could pick up. Until she heard a rustle.

"Hello?"

[attr="class","selene"]Bugs weren't a problem for Selene. In fact, she found most bug type Pokmeon cute, and their necessity to the environment was something she cared deeply for.

However, this wasn't just one cutiefly in her shop.

It was a swarm of them.

She couldn't blame them: she had purchased some ingredients recently to recreate the sweet scent of a fomantis. She didn't consider how it would attract them.

"Okay, out, out!"

Selene waved her hands around, trying to shoo the bugs away. They were stubborn ones, and they impeded customers coming into the shop. Because, unlike her, many people hated bugs.

[attr="class","selene"]Selene felt herself lighten as he sniffed each sample and lit up to one. She felt successful. Perhaps she was making an inch of progress, to see him become his old self again.

Then, he'd stiffen and remark about the weather.

Dejection flooded her veins. Selene's face grew a bit darker, her hand reaching up to try and snatch the shades off his face so she could give him a scolding. She didn't know this Wyatt.

But, he didn't know this Selene either.

His hand gripped his wrist tightly, stopping her in her tracks. Selene grew frustrated, pulling her hand away before gathering the samples.

"If you'd like, you can take it with you," she offered, though she knew he was going to reject it. "Or I can make you a unique scent on your own."

She wandered back to the counter. "I think you should get going. Miss Linda will be upset if you don't deliver her order in a timely manner."

It was her turn to become colder. However, she did hand him the shop's card. "Please let us know if you would take up on the offer."

What he might notice later was, while he didn't look, she had scribbled her number on the back. Just in case he decided he wanted to talk.
