After his own battle with the Dewford Gym Leader, Adrian feels confident someone here can help him whip his Kubfu into shape.[break][break]

Or at least get him to stop dozing off. They find their fitness coach in the form of an overzealous Scrafty, which falls upon Kubfu in a rain of verbal blows. Lazy. Unfocused. These words are a stain to Kubfu's pride, and utilized by its prospective teacher, the perfect motivator.[break][break]

After some well deserved ridicule, Kubfu falls in line. Scrafty is able to get bring out the resolve it was looking for, COACHING the Kubfu all the while. Maintain form. Concentrate. Progress can't be made with just blind flailing and building strength. After enough time spent with Scrafty, even Kubfu begins to BULK UP from the experience.[break][break]

While Kubfu is undergoing its training, Adrian is solicited for Kubfu's involvement in a promotional video for a local karate instructor. After some discussion, Adrian decides to go for it, and sure enough they manage to get some quality content for his latest promotional material:[break][break]

Thinking back on the Exodus Project manifest he'd received, it was clear either of them would prove valuable. Rather than take first pick, he'd wait to see which one Onyx claimed for themselves. He would take the scraps they left.[break][break]

He finds it unusual for someone not to know.[break][break]

"...They're at the center of what's been going on in Hoenn lately. Or at least, they're connected." That was the conclusion many had come to. But perhaps they weren't as closely related as one might expect, instead only loosely connected to the imminent dangers facing Hoenn. In any event, they would be careless and negligent not to use the resources provided to them. It may yet make the difference.[break][break]

Adrian pulls a device from out of his bag while a Runerigrus's phantasmal lines appear, as if it had always been there. After intercepting an attack to PROTECT its trainer, Runerigrus retaliated with a raking SHADOW CLAW from a hunk of upended earth from its flank.[break][break]

With the device in hand, he offers Onyx a glimpse at the UNOWN REPORT contained therein, and his list of personal entries, as well as unwittingly spilling the fact his own name was located within—if they had a keen eye for details.[break][break]

Ahead of Kubfu on the arena is a Croagunk, belonging to Sénon Game, who stands opposite Adrian on the far side of the arena. He feels stiff standing before a crowd, as opposed to how limber and relaxed Kubfu seems in its element. He's not keen on the match-up, but there's nothing for it but to try their damnedest. 'May the best mon win,' and all that...

After recognizing formalities, the match would soon be underway.

One arm bracing the shoulder as it limbers up its arms, Kubfu finishes its stretches, sizing up its croaking contender. Despite a rather ridiculous smile, one can't help but recognize the nerve on that one. Kubfu shows apprehension before rushing forward, balling a fist in preparation for a preemptive strike...

Waves turbulent with the writhing of a veritable swarm of Gyarados, their serpentive bodies like the teeming tendrils of a KRAKEN undulating through the waves, snaking their way like feelers closing in on their quarry. Nothing can approach them for fear of their reprisal, ending in evisceration. Trainers are being asked to help remove them so that the Slateport Splashfest can safely take place.[break][break]

From the shoreline Adrian unleashes Furor in a flash of red resplendent. Its tail leaves a trench where it passes through the shallows and into deeper waters, calling out to the wyrms in their frenzy. It is not likely they will respond favorably in their agitation, but any trainer would know that.[break][break]

When their efforts at resolving it peacefully are left marooned, they resort to less refined methods; Adrian raises a finger and twirls his hand at the wrist, and the red Gyarados begins circling the swarm, maybe to box them in. Most are outraged at everything that isn't Gyarados, so at first they simply continue their riotous writhing through coastal waters. It isn't until a lone Gyarados breaks away from the swarm that Furor seems to react. Its path jerks into a collision course with the brute, baring its fangs.[break][break]

Engage.[break][break]

Somewhere on the shore, Adrian's wristband lights up with the shimmer of a keystone, causing a change in Furor. With its added bulk, his Gyarados can go right for the throat—[break][break]

Execute.[break][break]

[break]

Furor's BALEFUL BRUX digs into the wild Gyarados' scaled hide before thrashing it in the waters, tossing it aside with a triumphant bellowing that grates his ears even from afar.[break][break]

Exemplify.[break][break]

With every trainer that arrived to help pacify the Gyarados, their numbers would dwindle, until the horde eventually moved on from the coastline to open waters.[break][break]

As Adrian runs a hand along the cave wall, strange, 'glitching' fragments tremble at his touch and collapse to the ground, scattering across the ground as various SHARDS. He pockets a gleaming YELLOW specimen before turning his attention deeper into the caverns. A bellowing roar cascades from within its furthest recesses.[break][break]

Finding reassurance with Howitzer and now Rover at his side, they spelunk deeper within the altered space of METEOR FALLS, unsure of what to suspect. As they're making headway, the air begins to grow stale and musty, until eventually Adrian collapses due to the glitching. He finds himself in a pile of bones, and ahead of them is a great beast reminiscent of a... He wasn't sure exactly.[break][break]

Howitzer and Rover step forward defensively, and the beast sizes them up before hurtling headlong towards them. Howitzer tackles it head on, only to be brushed aside, but Rover is able to provide a bulwark between them while it saps its strength, infecting it with the myriad spores spewing from its battered petals. Struggling to find his feet, Howitzer comes bounding back, biting into one of the creature's haunches and meteing a yowl of anguish from it.

After what felt like only moments but lasted hours by the positioning of the sun, Adrian emerged from the distortion a little worse for wear, sporting a freshly filled pokeball with the strange creature on his waste. Part of him wanted to reach out to angelo vestri and see whether he thought it matched the profile of their elusive beast, though they hadn't spoken in months. Perhaps it was overdue.

[attr=class,bulk][break]All around them the tide turned at the behest of these harbingers. Adrian mayhaps could've recognized them from the legends of Sinnoh, but it was of little importance now. What was more pertinent was navigating this battlefield, which was now saturated with volatile energies. While many pokemon rallied to one another, Adrian wished to seek refuge in the company of comrades, amber eyes skimming the horizon for the one named Rowan Wrynn.[break][break]

After isolating their aura against the vantablack of darkness, he throws a leg over Howitzer's back, snaking his arms around her before gesturing in Rowan's direction with his index finger.[break][break]

"There, Howie." He grunts over the sound of pandemonium. Overhead, Yveltal musters another devastating attack, levying its natural affinity against the enemy: MAX AIRSTREAM[break][break]

Howitzer, unable to see as Adrian does through the pitch, unleashes its SUNNY DAY to help it navigate the darkness. Bounding over the field as a hurried flash, they were able to reach them in short order—just before everything went to shit.[break][break]

"Are you alright!? I lost sight of you—" He seemed frantic.[break][break]

Adrian shifted his attention back to the risen entity, raising his lambent arm, wishing there was more he could do. Turning back to Rowan, he struggles to reconcile with the feeling of helplessness. They are doing all they can, but he seems to have fallen short...

A bead of sweat slicks down the side of his brow as he waits for her to rise. In that moment he loses sight of Vileplume's plight.[break][break]

"Wait, Rover!" It's too late. Rover is uprooted from its low stance and hurled violently, crashing against the quaking ground where it lies still for a moment, a visible tremble in its movements. When it does rise, it seems reluctant to pursue close-quarters combat any further, not wishing to be separated from the ground.[break][break]

"Alright then; Rover, MOONBLAST. Howie, get in close with EXTREME SPEED!" Rover begins siphoning pale starlight into a flush sphere at the center of its blooming petals, which swells suddenly in size before being ejected towards the Pangoro. Howitzer's debacle is much less immediate: She stares out across the waters, considering...[break][break]

And then suddenly she demonstrates her agile nature, running as if on wings across the water's surface, causing nary a ripple as she glided across towards where the Swampert stood its ground after its last assault. Although her body is wracked with the pains of the rocky collision, she remains able bodied and determined.[break][break]

Adrian keeps his eyes keen on them, confident in them.

Howitzer does not linger overly, dropping her leg to the ground after finding a moment of comfort, then stamping in place for a moment. Perhaps not everything is enshrouded in the doom and gloom. Maybe this second chance is really just that. If only for a moment, Howitzer tries to forget, but when she matches Adrian's gaze once more, the façade begins falling through.[break][break]

Such things cannot be forgotten so easily, but why should they?[break][break]

She stands there, kneading the grass in her front paws. It's a lot for one person to take in, but she manages her best. In these testing moments, where she finds herself anxious and unsure, Rowan's voice cuts through the confusion and grounds her in the moment. A soft bark escapes her before she runs around the summit, relieving herself of the zoomies. Maybe every dog does have its day.[break][break]

"I think she feels the same," Adrian comments wistfully.
