The deal was telling them apart. A Ditto worth its salt wasn't going to sit there dopey-faced with beady eyes and make your job easy; they were masters of imitation, if Derek hadn't forgotten. Spotting one by happenstance wasn't just going to happen with the snap of his fingers.[break][break]

"Forget it, I have an idea." The call ended with a click.[break][break]

Releasing a Slowbro, Adrian would systematically use disable on the wild pokemon. If a wild Ditto had impersonated any of the wild pokemon without learning to emulate its moves, then maybe, just possibly, they might be able to break the function of its cells through the use of its move, TRANSFORM. It was the only idea he had on hand.[break][break]

It didn't really make sense, but none of this did.

"Rover, use your Petal Dance!" Vileplume would be rattled out of its stupor from the attack by its trainer's voice, forced to fight through its panicked state to obey. Twirling its body around in dance, petals begin to flow with gusting movements of its own, allowing Vileplume to plummet with a little more grace than it might have otherwise. It isn't perfect, but it's a start.[break][break]

"Now punish them!" Magicked petals like cherry blossoms glide deftly through the air towards Pangoro in a sudden frenzy, a roiling of leafage as flora savaged fauna, giving Rover room enough to breathe and make a solid landing.[break][break]

Across the field, Nemo seeks its revenge, causing the earth to shudder and throw Arcanine over the side of the water. She fails to find the water's surface at first, perhaps caught up in the confusion. "Howitzer!? You okay?"[break][break]

It takes a moment longer than he's comfortable with for her to break the water's surface, but she does, clambering up over the rock she was perched upon and shaking herself off. "You're alright girl, now get it together!"

A tarnished pokeball fills his hand before a streak of red unveils his next companion. Furor's lumbering form snakes around the dock, its flowing body draped over the sides of the dock as it gains a footing. It bellows disdainfully in its gutteral tongue...[break][break]

If they were not deterred before, he hoped now they would begin to see reason. From his wrist a resplendent glow overtakes him and surges within the Gyarados, causing its already rippling figure to swell with muscle and those scales to harden, leaving it predisposed towards violence and with a nasty temperament to match.[break][break]

Its massive tail sweeps low with a single, decimating flourish that means to swipe away all approximate combatants, in effect impeding their efforts, but Adrian does not account for the handlers and cages below. Adrian was poking fun at how much their life revolved around the office space; when he wasn't tucked away somewhere on the Rocket submarine, he was likely spearheading the efforts and interests of POG Bank from an office on site. He turned to Ekans.[break][break]

"Ekans, use COIL." The wild pokemon were beginning to show more spine, so he had the pokemon curl in on itself, allowing it to play to its strengths. After sustaining a series of their attacks, Ekans looked pretty banged up.[break][break]

Adrian meant to toughen up some of his newest recruits from the hatchery: They improved remarkably fast, but most were still infants, and by nature they were immature. Not the sort of pokemon to trust in.[break][break]

They required a firm hand to correct their bad habits, but rather than handle them directly, he first wanted them to make an association with his commands and their successes. Behavioral training could wait.

He is able to muster, at least, that they are not significantly gifted. Not that he expected anything else.[break][break]

It only reinforced Jayden's determinations.[break][break]

"Are you ready to head out?"[break][break]

Adrian meant to drive if Jayden was less inclined, while having Magby stationed in the back, keeping guard over the eggs. Its FLAME BODY would keep them stable, and he had a few other reasons to pick this pokemon. Despite appearances, he believed it wholly capable of the mission ahead, even considering direct League interference.[break][break]

Not that he was expecting any tonight. Once he secured them, Adrian clambered up through the driver side door, planting himself in the seat before turning the key over once. The engine sputtered to life like clockwork, and he began to reminisce about his time drag racing with Senon at his side. Adrian prayed this would be nothing like that.[break][break]

With little else to say between them, Adrian found himself counting the moments spent in relative silence.

It seems Derek was beginning to consider exactly what Adrian already had: that the Ditto was running cover for something else hiding out in the caves. Probably more of those missing Ditto.[break][break]

"Think so? Well head on back this way, but I'm not sure how we're going to be able to tell..." Would they battle everything in the cave, just to be sure? Adrian wanted to see how Derek approached the situation.[break][break]

Vainly he tries to rely on his aura sensing abilities, seeing nothing distinguishing about the auras of the pokemon that he chanced across.

"Be well, all of you..." There isn't much else to say as he collects his things and trudges out of the room, taking away from his time there that Senon was in good hands. Assuming the League kept a close eye on him, and he hadn't gone more than toe-deep in researching the Unown Report on his own, perhaps they would leave him be. He wasn't an avatar, or some meddling trainer, he hoped.

He was just Senon. A friend, a rival, but most importantly a public servant and a friend to pokemon everywhere.

As he went along by his lonesome, Adrian left Derek to pursue the lone stranger, taking it upon himself to move deeper into the cavern. He didn't see anything unusual at first, just a surprising level of wildlife activity. It seemed every way he went, he was encroaching upon this or that, having to adjust his path to give pokemon a wider birth. That's when it dawned on him.[break][break]

Maybe... some of the wild pokemon were actually Ditto themselves?[break][break]

Try as he might to single one out, he wouldn't be able to discern them, even should he rely on his preternatural aura sensing capabilities; this simply wasn't part of his toolkit. Only a Ditto trainer or species specialist would be able to spot the inconsistencies.[break][break]

He ends up calling Derek over the phone: "Any luck?"

Rising to his full height, he feels a familiarly intrusive presence invading his mind as Yveltal tries to share with him a memory of another time. Its visceral in that he remembers it all too well: Reign, Miser, Karma. Screams, shouts, the blanket of night...[break][break]

Yveltal gave no other solace or comfort, abandoning him to his thoughts, which ran rampant with panic and confusion. Why now? And what could he hope to do now, in the face of some strange, impermeable darkness once again? He couldn't even be sure what had postponed its last culling, only that it had eventually passed.[break][break]

"Howitzer, STAY!" She was already rising from her haunches when he barked at her to stay put, which went against her instinct, but her stubborness was only rewarded with a firm, disapproving hand reaffirming his position.[break][break]

Adrian would dart out the door while following in Rowan's footsteps, casting a weary gaze across the preternatural blanket of shadow hanging over them, his discerning eyes finding little in the world that wasn't shades of grey... "Rowan, where are you—"[break][break]
