She comes to a stop and bristles, every hair is on edge and he can tell. Though Evan can not call himself a pokemon expert he's been around them in a way many can't say they have. he knows an instinctual reaction, she ears the sound before he does.

The drumming is odd but not too alarming, she seems to think otherwise. Perhaps it is because of a past he doesn't know and he cannot fault her for that. He can only come to realize he and this new pokemon of his may have more in common than he originally thought. He watches her, moving slowly with her as she focuses on the stick and the flame and it's almost like she senses where it comes from before it rounds the tree.

The pokemon is met with a blast of fire, the mystical nature of it making it taunting and terrifying for the grass type who is warded off in an instant. She pulls the fire back, bringing it into check and Evan has to admire her capabilities.

He is not fond of fire types, but he can most certainly warm up to this one.

His teeth begin to chatter, realizing that an icy wind is blowing through the area all too late but the fox moves in front of him. She hold up her stick,the fire blaring in front of her for warmth and the mystical fire that fuels it wards off the chill that descends on them.

"Thank you." he huddles into himself, feels the bite of the cold and reaches for the pack he always carries. There is a small blanket, almost like a shawl tucked inside and it soon drapes over his shoulders and around his torso. So long as he stays warm in this chill it won't matter much.

The fox only nods, placing a light screen between them and the coming wind when she sense that it is more than just the weather. two move forward and out of the area together, her presense and fire offering a much needed warmth.

They never see what is responsible for the chill, but evan holds no grudges anyway.

Snow.

It's not that he hates it it's just that his body mods do. Or rather they like it too much and that poses a problem and that is why there is a rare scowl on his face as he treks through the mountain paths. Evan is on one of his usual outings, fresh air in his lungs and silence in his mind from the solace of the world surrounding him. That moments respite before he returns to the part of the world he is neither meant for nor ready for but has been thrust into nonetheless.

He's on his way back down the mountain side when he stumble upon a scene he does not expect. Has he ever been in Hoenn for the holidays? He feels that he may have been once many many years ago but not recently enough to have encountered this. The delibird is having a hard time, the sack he carries seems to be caught on a rock that was hidden beneath the snow and even as it piles up on his boots Evan hurries over to it.

"Vince." his musharna leaps from his wrist ahead of him, the psychic pokemon reaching out to lift the sack from where it is caught before the pokemon can become further distressed-

"Yes." he's smiles when he confirms for her, because it seems she has taken the short version of the tale to heart. He's glad to see it, even if it does not do the full history of the Stray any justice. "You would be more than welcome to stop by my dear."

He hopes she does, because Evan wants to make sure that the place is remembered, that as many people as possible know of it. He wants to be sure the story continues despite the times. It doesn't matter how much longer it lasts so long as it does. To try for much more is well beyond his ability to plan ahead, Evan is a man that lives in the moment and to try to hard for the future is not in his nature.

Evan lets the conversation settle though, watching as she asses her work and there is no denying the improvement she's made. While he is no god to give approval that matters he silently praises her for her efforts none the less. Eyes trail over what she has done since they began talking and he imagines the shrine will be more than worthy of attention again when she finishes.

It isn't until she speaks again that he looks away, having been content to admire her work. Fascinated by most things, he can't help but want to take the time to look it over better.

He knows where the shrine is though, he can always do that later.

"That sounds delightful." he says, straightening himself to prepare to follow her. "What would you like to know about the place dear, ask away."

The skittering catches him off guard because he can only imagine what turn of events brought such a pokemon out to a sand bar in the middle of the oceanic routes of Hoenn. That is why when Evan turns to look the pokemon in the eyes he asks "What in the world are you doing out here?" there was nothing of it's usual terrain out here and he imagines that it was hiding in the rocks behind him and came out at the sound of battle.

The pokemon stares at him and he thinks about how it's almost time to go anyway, isn't it? The poor thing won't find enough food for itself out here, the water types will wise up and stay away or come for it once it seems easy enough a target. Evan sighs, and begins to pack up his things. The musharna returns to his side, mellow as ever. The phone call is quick and before long a local with a small boat is at the side of the sandbar with him.

It takes a little talking, a little coaxing but he gets human and pokemon to cooperate and the wild bug is herded onto the boat, arms dangling off one side as they return to the main land. It's eager to run off once they hit land and Evan lets it.

His joltik would like be jealous if he brought home what it would one day be anyway.

The pair walk past a tree full of pokemon he has no interest in. It's not because they can't be pointful, he's sure the pokemon has its perks the same as any other but he's here for something specific and has no interest deviating from that path for tooday.

The delphox is distracted however, raising her stick to get a closer look at the pokemon. He imagines she may not have seen them before, when she showed up on his back porch she was scrawny and tired and scared and he could tell by the ruffling of her fur and the scars on her body that whatever her life had been before she was either released or escaped was unpleasant.

He stops and stands in the snow, watching her watch them. He lets the pokemon inspect these new found things and make her decision about them, only moving once she turns away from them and returns to his side.

Evan doesn't get much of a chance to think it over, the commotion has attracted other wild pokemon to the waters surface and the pokemon is acceptably alarmed. The discharge of electricity that erupts from the bellow the water is not only alarming but does little to help his dilemma.

He'll have to let it go, by the time he gets the chance to do anything to currents will have swept things too far to find and at least it's in the ocean. He'd rather it return to the earth than do nothing at all. "Vince." He releases the musharna without hesitation, putting distance between himself and the waters edge. The pokemon's telekinesis brings the creature out of the water and they both seem uninterested in further interaction with it.

The cascade of bubbles come next, filling the space between them and contained by the pokemon's psychic abilities. He squeezes the area they are allowed to fill tighter and tighter until the bubble begin to pop in front of the pokemon, the splash back of the attack hitting it instead. "Let it go, but make sure it's far enough away." he tells his pokemon, the musharna does as told, replacing the squirmy pokemon as far away from them as he can reach without going into the waters himself.

Evan sighs, and decides to cast the line again, he might as well give it one more try.

The safari seems to be no different from the rest of Hoenn with its sudden snowfall, the place is covered in it and Evan is grateful for the hiking boots he always has on hand. It's one of the few things he's always paid well to have because you never know when you might need them.

His arms wrap around him, the sweater covering his torso is snug, another under it just in case. It's less because he's actually cold and more because the metal in his hips poses a danger if they chill too much and to be cold enough to snow? That's cold enough to worry him a little. He has to wander out at some point though, he's not about to spend what could be a couple days turning into an entire month cooped up in the building just because of a little snow.

The Delphox sits stands beside him, a recent addition to his growing crew of pokemon that he can't seem to stop gathering now that he's in one place and not moving around all the time. She looks up at him with curious eyes and a tilted head, her pokeball still in his fingers. "Just in case it starts to get cold enough I get worried, that's all girl." she seems to accept the reason for joining him, holding up the burning stick in front of her as if to lead the way despite sight not being a problem in the slightest. He chuckles and follows her lead anyway.

Oof.

Evan makes a mental note to really try and remember this, he's just not too used to it. People fearing things like ghost pokemon or even dark types, disliking bugs, these are things he's commonly come across but the younger man's response to psychic's is something he's simply not used to. Most seem to see them as nothing but high use pokemon, common and easy to fit on just about any team.

"The main ones he's going to use is either psychic or telekinesis to lift them out of the water and contain my joltik's electricity away from the water, divide and conquer a bit you know? We'll take the ones he lifts up and you take the ones still in the water."

At least that had been his plan, he assumed his partner would either bring electric pokemon themselves (in which case they would be able to keep from harming the corsola in the colony) or water types like this as well. Then again he had expected a random stranger.

"If you're really not okay with it though we can make do with something else." he says, it would take some other manners of finagling but he could make it happen one way of another.

Evan catches her eyes and chuckles, he's used to the attention both good at bad. Many find themselves enthralled with his image for one reason or another and whatever she's thinking likely comes as no surprise.

"None of the above." he chooses the hidden extra answer, because she's not quite hit the mark with any of her guesses at all.

"The Stray has a unique story, to paraphrase, it earned its name because the original owner of the tavern was known for taking in the orphans and hoodlums off the streets or giving shelter to wandering vagrants. Often times he let them work off their room and board by helping him around the tavern. He took in the Strays you could say." He explained, his posture seemed to shift a little, back straightening as he told the story because important tales deserved the extra effort, he extra respect. "Of course that stopped being such a thing as we moved into the current era, but every once in awhile someone like me finds the places and there's another Stray off the street for a night or two."

Evan grins, fondness settling on his features. Many nights had been spent in those walls caring for the old building in exchange for a room and a shower. "That's how it wound up in my hands."Evan bites the left side of his lip a little, debating how to say the rest without giving anything away.

"You could say I'm in the business of keeping old stories alive, seemed a shame to let that one die." he half shrugs, as if it's a satisfactory answer but he could do better. But better means telling a little too much.

"If you like clubs you may enjoy a visit with us, not quite club like but we have a stage I try to keep booked with performers nonetheless." Evan could try to explain the unique atmosphere of the place but he feared he might not do it justice if he tried.

She takes to the idea well enough and Evan rewards her with a grin. He was hoping she would. It'll make their venture forward a little easier. "When you're getting worn thin it's best to think about how you can make your life a little easier.' he comments. something he's gotten the idea of through experimentation and with time, self education that allowed him to learn how best to put pokemon together. He returns the musharna, content that they shouldn't need him for awhile.

He tries not to laugh this time, he really does. It's exactly the kind of answer he expected and it amuses him to no end that she gives it the way she does. Listing it off like it should be a given almost and he doesn't really blame her. Most would look like that, he's something far more off the beaten path as the owner of something that would match none of that at all. "I don't think I would want to bat for any of that anyway!" he says, chuckling through his words again and grinning. It's a genuine sentiment, the idea of being so very mundane is almost appalling. Perhaps he really isn't suited to being an owner after all was he?

"Especially since it gets better, I have plenty of rings back home-" it's almost weird to call it that, but in a way having somewhere to leave things he doesn't really need to be carrying with him is a good thing. "I try not to have them on when I travel so I can't lose them and I think the absolute best I can offer you is the turtleneck I wear when it's cold because otherwise I'm usually a little bit of a mess." he says with pure honesty, because it's true. He doesn't get much more close to looking like an 'owner' but he's never really put much thought into what anything is supposed to look like, at least not things like that.

Evan reaches down to pet the Shinx in much the same fashion he had his own pokemon, smiling down at it while his Vaporeon twists its head sideways at the pokemon. The wide eyes make it almost as eery as when his trainer does it and they are a far more fitting match than they may seem. The water type chirps and bats his head against the other's paw before standing and slipping behind the other pokemon. Trainer and pokemon realize wha's to come in Tandem and Evan reaches to pull the shinx over with him as his vaporeon's body drips with acid seeping through his scales.

The crunch of the Simisage's teeth means little against the acid now filling its mouth from his acid armor, the water gun is simply the cherry on the cake pushing the fire type back and away again as it turns to look for others that be seeking a fight.
