the knock echoes on the door for only a minute before the wooden door creaks open to reveal the soft smile of illeana reyes. she brightens a little further at the sight of elise.

it's a blight on this world - unnatural, anomalous... familiar.

her eyes narrow as strong winds whip her hair up into a frenzy. it billows out behind her as she steps forward. a hand rises, dipped in pink, and she has half a mind to rip this carcinogenic event out of reality. she can see it now: purple edges giving way to pink, lightning breaking and crumbling into charge-less air, blue skies peeking out as the distortion shatters like glass beneath her touch.

but is it possible? does she test the theory with other living souls in this distortion? better yet... could she overpower it with one of her own?

hunger ignites with endless curiosity and as the white-stripe basculin with her evolves into a more dated form as basculegion, she takes a few more steps forward to inspect one of the distortion's edges. there, she coats her hand in a swath of pink energy. seconds tick by with the hands of a grandfather clock. pink forms a gauntlet - her own design, golurk inspired - and she winds up before punching at the distortion's edge with spatial energy. whether it breaks or not is of no consequence for this is science, this is discovery, this is the duality of creation and destruction all coalesced into one in the hands of an alchemist.

"have you made any guesses about what the amulets were trying to spell out?"

if he has an idea, whether agreed upon by the rest of the amulet holders or not, it could be a small lead. even the tiniest of details can be important in the grand scheme.

with the letter d being added into the mix, she is able to spell out one word: god. she circles it twice on her pad of paper before the pen falls.

"you could wait, but there's no guarantee it could resurface again."

which, in her mind, only leaves one option...

"seeking out latios for some help might be the only way to find the island. i can also take a look at the league archives to see if angelo vestri left behind any maps of where the islands were last sighted if needed."

finding both latios and the islands, however, feels more like a needle in a haystack than ever before. she suspects even with spatial awareness, she wouldn't be able to pinpoint the existence he seeks. it's all still so vague, existing just out of reach.

in the dim light of lesser megalopolis, she looks crazed. painted pink between fluorescent lighting and sorely missed power radiating from hands, it's everything she's dreamed of.

and as she sweeps through the skies, pink hands close to the sides, she swears she sees something out of a nightmare - THEO BECKETT with his twisted sneer and her teeth plucked straight out into his hands. or maybe it's jayden cross, ice cold and a hollow shell of the man she once knew. will he uphold his promise? she would, given the chance... and this might just be it. she snarls and launches herself down regardless of if it's merely a trick of the mind.

a soft pink plume of energy announces her arrival. abandoned papers swirl up and settle back into silence. her neck swivels in her hunt, but she seemingly comes up empty handed. and despite the dried blood on her body - hers, she thinks, for it lacks the blue hue of megalopolans for now - she still looks so alive.

familiar voices drift in on the wind and she turns, stalking forward until they come into view. annalise henderson and Greyson Connors . she doesn't see Roy Aker , but it's all right, she'll find him later...

for now, she raises a single glowing hand and tries to smile. it's only teeth, still held firm into gums and not ripped out by the wardens just yet.

sunshine and moonlight... when have they ever existed at the same time? one always gives way for the other in the sky, waiting in the wings for their time.

are they no different?

he pulls up a chair and she blinks. he wants to hear what she thinks? surprise overtakes the expression and she has to catch herself, purposely smoothing porcelain over until it's smooth, whole.

"i started the project with the idea of preventing any avatars from being overcome with infinity or primal energy, but it's proving to be a little more insightful than i first thought."

her meetings with a handful of avatars and those touched by legendary bonds are pulling curtains back. she feels like she can see clearer than ever before, even without the spatial awareness of her own bond creeping in through spreading cracks.

"i'd like to help them understand their powers better if i can, but i'm afraid it'll just leave them with more questions than i could possibly hope to answer."

and once she's done, the pen stills. her eyes rise to refocus.

"with what you've disclosed, i can check on your infinity energy levels to see if they're fading. it'll provide some insight into what's going on with the powers, but i wouldn't be able to give a concrete reason why without studying articuno as well."

it could be mental or physical, she reasons, but without the legendary bird, it's difficult to say where the problem stems from entirely. she can only make educated guesses, small shots in the dark until something lodges into concrete evidence.

"it's nothing, really. it was the only thing i could pick up on."

she tries to change topics, shifting through the rest of the ship and feebly drawing up a shaky conclusion.

"do you think only ultra beasts were here?"

it makes sense, even without a sense of expertise nestled beneath her belt. the body adjusts in fascinating ways to even the most dire of circumstances in time.

"i suspect they feel easier because your body is adjusting with prolonged exposure."

her pen stills and after a moment, her eyes drift up to reconnect with yuina's.

"i don't believe it's anything to worry about at the moment, however - it's a normal occurrence with multiple trips into a harsh environment."

she makes a small note to check for any anomalies on a genetic or molecular level all the same before resuming the act of data collection.

"have you noticed anything out of the ordinary during the distortions? something that you might not have experienced before like energy, visions, or voices?"

some like little pebbles against the ocean's surface and others like a treasure chest dropping into the vast deep. she could trace them out for him if he was ever curious of his spatial footprint. palkia flicks its tail irritably, as if the mention of necrozma's destruction hits a nerve.

and at that, she cracks a smile, spreading porcelain until it shatters like glass.

she meets his chilling stare with one of her own, but there's jagged pieces of stars in hers. she watches them die and be born again all in the same sequence of minutes. a void meeting creation, creating an impasse they can't hope to cross. he kicks off from the ground and she feels the fluctuation of spatial matter. seconds tick by and space expands with them until she's releasing a white knuckled grip and taking a step back. palkia shifts to join her, furling its body around her in the way a dragon guards its treasure.

before darkness falls, before he's engulfed, she smiles a little wider until light glints off teeth.

the training fields feel different, as if there's a tension hidden between flecks of spatial matter. she can't dissect it just quite yet - it eludes her in long stretches of silence.

and then, there's a soft shift like the distant roll of thunder somewhere too far to bring rain just yet. it clicks into place and she turns, expectant.

at her side, a spatial dragon unfurls itself from the ground around her. it opens like a flower, pearlescent pink scales and wings shimmering beneath a quickly fleeting sun. she can feel the lazy tail swishing from palkia before it begins - an extension of herself in the end.

with little time to recover, they're thrown down one by one. each body drops, followed by a sickening squelch, and when it's her turn? she grimaces through the fall until she collides and rolls. long since expired blood and flesh mix with the fresh red on her body and despite herself, she's gagging. the mochi threatens to come back with a vengeance as her stomach tries to empty itself.

when she's done, she swipes the back of her hand across her mouth and rises to shaky feet. she tries, then, to take a few steps forward... but like clockwork, she never gets far.

chains tighten around limbs and she's a prisoner again - more than before with the leash, it reminds her of a submarine and damp, moist air. her chest constricts with the thought.

Roy Aker 's voice echoes somewhere to her side. she can just barely make out his figure.

"no - this is disgusting."

as the sentiment leaves her mouth, vines come out of the dark. they spread across the grime and filth without rhyme or reason. and when she thinks she's set to avoid them, when her body begins to shift to the side, they twist and slash across her body. freshly split skin from the previous punishment screams through phases of pain. she hisses through the onslaught, grits her teeth through new blood splattering into the scraps at their feet.

another step forward is sluggish, pained, and restricted. her mind reels with the echoing's of a mad woman until it's no longer a mantra but a promise, a gilded thread of fated ruin. i'll kill them i'll kill them i'llkillthem i'llkillthem i'll kill them kill them kill them i'llfuckingkillthem.

for a moment, she believes she's successful, not caught in the endeavor of stashing a shard away... she would be wrong. ever the golden fool, the alchemist is gathered with the rest of them - hoisted up like pigs in a slaughterhouse and beaten until they're bloody.

each strike fuels primordial anger. she expects to feel the rippling of reality around them, hopes to see her patron tearing itself into existence out of a protective rage. she is still, unsurprisingly, wrong.

there is no gold spilled down onto cold concrete. she has no ichor left to bleed - not with chains still tightening around her limbs and forcing her to move like a puppet on strings. the marionette of the alchemist drops the tera crystal shard unceremoniously on the ground and the sound echoes for a moment. it doesn't sound like what she's used to. the lack of spatial chords leaves her hollow.

and as pokeballs are lined up, she doesn't flinch until her own is slotted into the machine. her bronzong's ball is promptly smashed and she snarls with quick tempered rage, spitting blood at the feet of the nearest megalopolan. she can't stop them - not as she is - but she won't forget this. they won't forget this.

after meeting Roy Aker 's eyes, after trying and failing to offer a small smile of comfort (bloody teeth don't hit the same, do they?), she heaves out an annoyed, "trust.".

with the interruption of the shitty alien variety, she scowls behind her mask. her hands itch for pink energy, for something to rip the life from their eyes... but nothing comes. the chains feel tighter around her limbs all the same.

their warden makes quick work of a prisoner, then, and despite herself, she still wants to knock the small animal around. it wouldn't end well - surely - but the urge stays consistent even after she is forced to pluck a mochi off the plate Roy Aker nudges toward her. it stays even as she chews the mochi and swallows it down with a look of disgust.

once this leash is off? she's squashing them all like little tiny bugs.

the tray of mochi is passed off to someone - if she recognizes whoever grabs it, she doesn't make any indicator to show it. and after a moment, she joins Roy Aker in the task of sorting through shards of crystals while trying to ignore their warden, the megalopolans, and even some familiar looking people. she wants to take multiple shards, wants to hide them for use as a weapon, but the most she can do is try to tuck a small, sharp shard into the band of her pants... each movement causes a small little pain as the shard begins to cut skin, but she needs to hold strong - the shard will end up being important to getting out of here, she hopes.
