he makes no mention of having partaken in her route. the details glimmer under the surface, logged away for a more appropriate time. the way he categorizes her is not unlike the log entry from another world.

ELISABETH’S COMPOSURE REVEALS MORE IN SILENCE THAN WITH WORDS. the chasm between them is filled with a small gesture: the figure curls her fingers around the CRYSTABLOOM, as if to hold it, but never dares to touch the flower itself. something perfectly within her reach but out of grasp.

when the oath is broken, she finally hears her voice.

THE FALL LINES THE ZARUDE UP PERFECTLY. another MEGA HORN straight center. scrambling paws look to scurry away but pokemon has no purchase mid-air. only after contact, when the horn brutalizes past fur and hair, does the pokemon try to push itself against such overwhelming force.

both hands plant itself against the RYHYPERIOR’s face to try and free itself from their carried momentum. essence of its JUNGLE HEALING surge with new life before the pokemon is promptly tossed aside.

the UMBREON is met with a similar fate. the BOUNCE lands and crumples the much smaller pokemon underneath. but what shows up underneath the GYARADOS’ scales isn’t just a mass of fur. TOXIC pools of poison drip off the pokemon’s lunar coat. to land an attack also means to expose oneself to POISON.

he bears his arm for her to see. what once held the WISH TAG is now just plain flesh. scarred with faded markings but skin and bones all the same. until he grimaces.

that’s when the meat bubbles into something inhumane. the same gelatinous texture of the ditto they’ve coagulated.

his other hand is the one that reaches out. to stroke her face in a feeble attempt to brush away her concerns. instead, they only find locks of red hair.

“very well. but know you are not the first nor only one in their camp. again, an unnecessary risk for someone we treasure.”

THE CLOSER SOMEONE DARES TO VENTURE, the more becomes apparent. like the sallow hues bleeding past freckled skin. the most prominent of her bones jut along her face, a strict contrast to eyes sunken with fatigue. the bend of her back professes a slouch that has known many years. a testament to her conviction in leaving it unaddressed.

she says nothing when her locks onto a strangers. they drone on and on into the life behind it. it’s a stare the florist will recognize.

after all, it’s the stare she inherited from her mentor.

  this marks the first modern case of a human losing avatar status due to a legendary pokemon’s death. character development wise, it also highlights two distinct points:[break][break]
  
  
  • legendary pokemon are not all powerful. being an avatar does not make you invincible.
  • once you become an avatar, how much does it define you? who do you become when it is taken away?

IN SOOTOPOLIS, when the night wanes into endless twinkles, a single CRYSTABLOOM blossoms against all odds. it is alone now. a survivor that represents a once proud species that would astound all with its ethereal beauty.

it sprouts at the very gulf of sootopolis’ entrance. the route people would use to ferry in and out of the city. at least, before team rocket took control. now that designation is the route less traveled by. forgotten by most in lieu of new traffic and newer dissidents.

at the water’s very edge, a single person sits huddled around the small plant. green curly hair hides her features. her frame is wiry even from a distance.
