It seemed this Ruby had to argue with her baltoy as much as he did with his gengar. For how unexciting the unown was, at least it wasn't an untamed terror. The pokemon came to heel however and began to float in front of him. It made no noise, much like the unown. Leaning in, it looked ancient, as if it had been sculpted from clay like a pot.

''Oh?'' As Ruby explained her hobby of unown collecting Andy poked the baltoy gently, rubbing his fingertip across the surface. It felt like it was made of clay too, the cool grainy texture somewhat familiar. Having family that dabbled in archaeology meant he had seen, and despite the fact that he shouldn't have, touched plenty of old pottery.

''You said something powerful happens when you bring them all together? What happens?'' Ceasing his probing he looked up over his shoulder at the elder teen. It made sense that she had spoken to him in the first place. She wanted the unown he bet. To what end though? If she didn't really know, wouldn't it be like giving a toddler a loaded gun?

It might figure out how it worked, but at what cost?

''You did not see him!? But he is a pokemon of such brilliance!'' The rotomdex couldn't believe it, but then he had never noticed Hideo's sight impairment either, just as it seemed neither of the Galarian's pokemon noticed Andy's own. The chair was offered to him thanks to not one, but two gardevoir.

''Thanks...'' The gratitude was spoken uneasily. Whose gardevoir was this? These pokemon seemed especially popular, at least everyone and their mother seemed to have one. The two near him took him back to his would-be grave under the Mauville hills, where these same type of pokemon gathered around him as he laid in the mud.

It made him a little uncomfortable...

''If only I had a pokemon to help me, that I just fucking got ice cream for.'' Annoyance easily drown out out the discomfort. A shimmering haze appeared around the boy as his white gengar slid into existence to claim the chocolate cone from his trainer's cast encased hand. It's long tongue greedily licked at the treat.

''You're welcome, dickhead.'' Seeing the gengar feast reminded him of when he had met John Sullivan, a much more pleasant experience than nearly falling to his death. While over the bulbous ghost type's shoulder he noted Eris hovering around, an unfamiliar voice drew his attention as his head swiveled towards Cardamom Bliss.

''Cardamom? Tell me that's your surname. Your parents must have hated your guts name you that atrocity.''

While he hadn't considered that it might actually be difficult for a blind person to dye their hair alone initially, Hideo's pokemon basically helped with everything. It seemed as if the other boy was presuming something like coloring your hair for fun, while nothing so permanent was being suggested. No one wanted to go find a whole other face claim for a plot, nor matter how long term.

''I put ink in my hair to get into a restricted event. Washed right out after. I was talking about something like that.'' Though he wasn't sure what to say about sunglasses painting blind people as obvious. The only visually impaired person he had ever met had been Hideo, who had never worn sunglasses. But then contacts...?

''Mate, if you think dying your hair is a pain in the ass, you obviously ain't met anyone that's had to deal with contacts.'' Many times had he watched Celia Auclair struggle with the inserts in order to avoid her glasses. ''Well, I guess you wouldn't have to align them right, and shit. But they fall out all the time generally just feel irritating as shit. Or at least mum always bitched about them.''

Submerged in angst as he was, the muffled rumbles nearby did not escape his notice. While occasionally, a rain of dirt or a stray pebble tumbling from higher in the cave's formation would join the echos of his hard breaths, it was nothing like this. Gritting his teeth as he craned his neck towards the racket, even the surprise of fear brought a twinge of pain.

What!? An earthquake!? There's not a fucking volcano or anything near Mauville! Yet the noise only grew in intensity, the tremors becoming clear under his sprawled form. ''What the fuck!?'' A cave in would at least be quicker than lying around, and yet the possibility still did not please him. The cracking of stone tore like a canon through his dark little slice of hell.

Closing his eyes to shield them from the dust and debris kicked up, the strength couldn't be mustered to bring his arm up to cover them. For all he knew it wouldn't matter in a moment anyway. A rain of pebbles could be felt washing over him. Waiting for the inevitable big thump that would take the pain away, he lets himself take aching breaths again when it doesn't come.

The cacophony died away to a moment of silence that felt like an eternity. Slowly, Andy allowed his eyes to part to realize he could only see out of one of them. After a split second of panic, the sight of light in distance stunned him away from such worries. What was that? The sight of it hurt to behold, yet he didn't look away.

Then there were what sounded like whispers in the distance...

''Hello...?'' He thought he heard someone crying, but he couldn't see. Closing his one good eye for a few seconds he opened it again, blinking fast. Was he hallucinating? Had he died and was the foggy source of glow in the distance some mythical promised afterlife? Then he noted everything still hurt like hell, so that couldn't be so.

A voice answered back 'we're here.' Squinting, a blurry figure contorted into existence, a shadowy form against the distant glow. The voice sounded somewhat familiar, but the boy couldn't immediately place it. A memory swam around the fog in his brain, and he just couldn't be bothered to fish it out from the murk. The next question seemed only sensible.

Only moments before...

Search Team 1 powered forwards. The dugtrio of Hideo Kino and the steelix of Arashi Akiyama burrowed through the earth at John Sullivan 's direction. Their digging is made far more efficient by Ruby Walker 's helping hand, the subterranean pokemon functioning in perfect unison with all the psychic coordination. Such blessings could also be a curse however.

The duo of orbeetles halt in their tracks at the massive spike of pain and death their abilities detect, as if hundreds of voices cried out and were suddenly silenced. Not far from their own efforts, the potential death of two trainers, pokemon, countless roggenrola is fully felt by every linked member of the team and it could be overwhelming to process so suddenly.

Perhaps they will recover like other teams subjected to their own pitfalls. The combined efforts of steelix, vikavolt, and dugtrio eventually penetrates another cavern, all halting due to the lack of planetary crust to keep digging through. Oddly this doesn't cause any stones not directly touched by the three to move, all held deftly in place by the combined earth powers of Greyson Connors 's pokemon above.

Any further cave-ins avoided thanks to the efforts of Search Team 2, Arashi Akiyama 's salazzle and Eris Halla ' yanmega skitter out into the opening to view the scene unfolding as best they can in the dim light, though their arrival may startle kyle lopez . The later sight of Hideo Kino 's gardevoir wielding a flashlight should ease any concern of the pokemon being wild however.

It joins Eva Morales 's gradevoir tracking the scenes of reunion, joyful, horrifying, and mournful to crowd over the battered Andy Blackadder . Flashlight fully illuminating the boy's sorry form for all present to see, Ronald Rogers 's scorupi notes the events after emerging just above the lot before turning and scurrying back up the jagged chimney their rescuee had tumbled through just the day prior to alert its trainer.

The Blackadder is a sorry sight to behold. Covered from head to toe in bloody mud and dust, he looked as if he had just been birthed from the womb of the earth not moments before. A goose egg bruise grew off the left side of his head, making it appear misshapen and swelling his eye there completely shut. His right leg bulged unnaturally within his pants above the knee.

A notable lump also appeared on his left forearm. The closer light source being too much to bear, his right arm, the hand at its end sliced and ragged, came up to cover his one seeing eye. Two gardevoirs? It had to be a search party. Those things didn't live under ground. Disoriented he looked back in the direction of what he was sure was a human.

''Are all these with you? Came a croaked query. As sorry as the youth appeared however, Search Team 3 behind kyle lopez was a shadow of its former self. MATIAS SILPH recovered in the arms of Eva Morales with the aid of mysterious powers and multiple heal bombs. Although it seemed that only mint frost noted the absence of Xander Belmont .

The ginger taps of his komala's wood hammer dug towards the entombed Ranger, but who knew if he would find another to rescue or a corpse to be hauled back to the surface. If so, would the powers of Ho-oh make another subtle return, or could lightning only strike once? None the less, while bloody, it seemed the objective had been achieved.

Now just came the matter of extraction...

Meanwhile... the terrifying sound of rattlesnake halted the rhyperior's tantrum. Its red eyes glared at the lone trainer in the dim darkness. While it was unclear if the brute truly understood the woman's pleas after a long moment of heavy huffs from the pokemon, clouds of cave dust rising from around its nostrils, the rhyperior began to back away.

As it faded back into the gloom, it turned, the low growls it emitted becoming more and more distant. With only the sound of the occasional rock tumbling from the tortured cave around Kaida Adachi , she was left to content with the battered and comatose Allison Hawthorne , who would surely need to be evacuated immediately.

''Genesect?'' A tone of disbelief painted the question. ''I thought those things were long dead? Unless it's some rich cunt who just wants the fossils for a private collection or some shit...'' A look was levied at his mother. Perhaps such a pursuit had been partly why she was down there. His mother did have a deep love for bug pokemon.

It was too bad such a fossil couldn't be resurrected into a neat ghost bug pokemon. As much as he loved his shedinja, it left a lot to be desired in... usefulness. Alas, as a ghost trainer, his range was rather limited when it came to duel typed pokemon. But such internalized gripes were far from unimportant at the moment.

''Look,'' he started after a sigh. ''Forget all that bug shit anyway. We can sort this mess out later. I need to get Hideo back to his brother before his ass is grass.'' Looking to the other boy be continued, ''do you want to just go back to the festival and wander around until you find him?'' The Galarian wasn't sure what the best approach would be.

''You could call him or something and just tell him to meet you somewhere. I can just get one of my pokemon to take you there.'' It wouldn't be the drifblim. Such a distance could really be covered by his phantom force only once. However there were others about that could teleport in some fashion. He had no idea what mom had brought with her...

''No.'' An answer to hunting was brief, followed by a short punctuating explanation. ''Caught and ate fish pokemon before.'' Granted seafood wasn't his favorite, even if he did like krabby rangoon and sushi. Thinking back to their 'date' in Fortree back during the holidays, Andy really should invite the other boy for food there again before he 'disappeared.'

''Just be careful with those odd jobs. Chances are if you go through with this, your folks and even Doug are probably going to have posters out and alerts with every jack-booted cop in the region. If I were you I would stick to the smaller hamlets. Rule the rural, you know? A disguise might not be a bad idea either...'' His finger tapped his chin in thought.

''Maybe dye your hair? Sunglasses so no one can immediately tell you're blind?'' The thought of Hideo wearing novelty googly eye glasses popping into his head forced him to suppress a chuckle so he didn't have to explain. ''I know as long as you act unassuming enough, no one will pay enough enough attention to notice even if it's a little shit.''

The racket of his crutches against the ground likely heralded his presence. While he had thought of something like a rotom-possessed wheel chair, he didn't want to look too helpless. Not to mention the long cast that encased his right leg from his toes to his crotch didn't bend enough to make sitting comfortable. At least not in a wheel chair.

''Trainer Kino,'' his shiny rotomdex cooed as it hovered over from where Andy acquired his ice cream cones. ''It is good to see you in complete health given current events!'' A staccato racket heralded the Galarian's travel closer to his friend. ''Did you get to see the Groudon? Oh I wish I could have seen it!''

''Let the kid eat his fucking ice cream in peace, Buzz. No one likes playing twenty questions.'' Sliding out a chair close to Hideo Kino with a crutch, actually getting off his walking aids while clutching a chocolate ice cream cone within each hand, one also casted, created a clumsy dance for which there didn't look to be much of a solution.

Everyone seemed to have caught on to his earlier warning, or figured it out for themselves and attacks of every stripe pile into the red orb until it shattered. Clinching his good hand into a fist in celebration, part of him lamented it couldn't have been captured. Since it seemed the boy might be stuck with a cane for a while it would have made an excellent decoration.

The mountain was rumbling to a worrying degree, causing Willow to light the boy's ash stained face with the glow of a concerned red eye. Andy was paying little attention to the trevenant's concerns however. The sight of FERNANDO SILPH exerting his avatarial powers against groudon had him shielding his face from biting winds with his forearm, to say nothing of the heat from the volcano.

What's this asshat doing? Wondering if some rich guy was going to kill everyone present, the wails of the unknown pokemon stole his attention with its own display of power, attacking Groudon viciously. ''It never fucking ends around here...'' But the show before him disappeared as the scene quickly became much more distant.

The heat, ash, and wind died away. While still muggy typically, the return to a normal Hoenn night was for once a welcome change. His gengar's powers faded as the lot reappeared, his transformation ending. They had come out remarkably unscathed. Still, the distance between them and the raging situation at the volcano drew a hard gaze from the Galarian.

''Present. Never been better. Or well, you know, before Frankie.'' The words had an edge to them, but no one present was worthy of their full bite. Even Ruby Walker's comment about his 'stupid' ideas didn't illicit the vocal homicide boiling within him. ''Well we were going to ride the gondola, not climb. I ain't much for climbing right now, lassy.''

''We got the job done without almost killing anyone else. That's more than I can say for evryone.'' Tapping at his mount, Willow allowed him to slide off before Andy drew a pokeball. ''Smashing job, Will. You really made the grade. Have a rest, eh?'' Beaming the trevenant inside, he turned to wish Ruby well.

''Don't get killed out there. I'll stick here with Hideo and try to help him come up with a good lie to tell his parents.''
