their first concert in hoenn?[break][break]

to be honest, it had been sort of crammed in once they made the announcement that they were going to hoenn. a pokemon adoption center needed a fundraiser, and...somehow, they had managed to reach out to jupiter. or to amp ♥'s manager, if people wanted to be technical- it had the same result (mostly because jupiter felt too bad to say no), so they didn't see why it mattered.[break][break]

getting set up was the worst part of it, especially under such sort time. but, after a while, it works; there's a sense of relief when their guitar, blue and yellow to match their aesthetic, releases a little hum under their hand.[break][break]

now they just wait, and hope that some fans (or just people curious about the concert in general) happen to show up.

amp wasn't really the kind of artist roxie usually went out of her way to see. not when she was in that old group at least. they felt too light and poppy for roxie, a girl doing her best to embody something edgier; but her rebrand has been something else.

it's got promise. at least in the eyes of an amateur punk kid.

it's what brings roxie all the way to mauville from rustboro and to some dinky little fundraising thing. amp is putting on a performance to hopefully draw more patrons for their bake sale or something.

roxie saunters in with the flier still in her hand. the adoption center doors slide shut behind her.

the thrum of a guitar pulls her attention to a makeshift stage. so she's not missed it. cool.

honestly, with such a tiny crowd, jupiter was half expecting for the charity to just give it up. not that he has much to complain about; under such short notice, it’s probably hard for people to make time to come to the concert. if it could even be called that, as makeshift as it is; honestly, it just feels like him, some speakers, and his guitar.[break][break]

it’s a small enough area that the sound will travel fairly easily, almost like the adoption center knew it wasn’t going to be some giant thing. the cramped area would have bothered him at some point (and, honestly, it still kind of does), but it’s no matter. he’s quick to try to hide any hints of being unnerved and replace it with raw excitement. he can’t get the crowd as riled up as he usually would, but he manage what he’s able to.[break][break]

he waits, just for a moment or two longer, and his patience seems to pay off; a straggler, a future punk from what Jupiter can tell, pushes their way through the door, right as he reaches to strum a few hesitant chords on the guitar. testing the waters.

while amp is warming up, roxie takes an opportunity to go buy some overpriced pastries. might as well help the cause or whatever. once she's got a cookie and a cupcake she makes her way to the stage.

the space seems confused between whether it wants the audience to sit or stand. chairs are just a bit too scarce and a bit too far apart to support any kind of crowd but the standing room isn't anywhere near large enough for the draws of standing (not that anyone's going to mosh in an adoption clinic anyway).

roxie settles on sitting down. if they somehow draw enough people to fill all the seats she'll switch to standing then.

she munches on her cookie while she waits for the show to start. it's good. not "worth its price" good, but soft and chewy enough that roxie will pretend it is.

after the first strum of jupiter's guitar, the show is fairly quick to start. it seems awkward, honestly, with such a small group, but...well. if it was enough to work for the adoption center, then she couldn't really complain about it. and, after a while, it's easy enough to more or less forget that she's not in front of a large crowd, as focused on her music that she is.[break][break]

she loses track of time- at least until the last song draws to a close and she's left to thank the people that did come and start to pack up her things. there are a few stragglers, obviously, but most of them seem more interested in the adoption center portion than jupiter herself. or they're just waiting for her to seem less busy. she doesn't mind either way- most of the crowd is gone, and she has time to spare for a while.

the show is no rager. not with the piddly crowd that came out and the small shop aesthetic all around them. still, it's not the worst thing roxie's been to. mostly on account of the music. she was right, the new amp is definitely more up her alley.

as things wrap up most people clear out. workers go back to working and people here more out of politeness and curiosity than genuine interest go on their way -- leaving behind wrappers and napkins from their pastries.

of the stragglers (who might be fans, new or old, or might just be lost with nothing else on their agenda) roxie is the first to properly approach amp. she's got experience talking to artists she's interested in -- enough not to make a complete fool of herself when she approaches this one.

"hey," roxie calls tentatively to amp as the woman puts a guitar away, "that was a nice set."
