welcome to hoenn!

hoenn is a faction-based pokemon animanga site. based on the eponymous region of hoenn of the pokemon series, this site aims to provide a roleplay experience that doubles as a love letter to the franchise. however, extensive knowledge of pokemon is not necessary for this site, nor is a deep investment in the site-wide conflict between the villainous organization, team rocket, and the government body of hoenn, the league.

for those unfamiliar to pokemon or wary of faction-based roleplay, it is perfectly fine to roleplay slice-of-life or pokemonless threads within this setting. for this reason, hoenn holds events that cater to a wide variety of roleplay styles.

examples of previous events or activities are site-wide raids, rocket invasions, roleplay prompt bingo, vrmmorpg events, pokemon contests, mascot competitions, and more. frankly speaking, this site's events dabble into a variety of genres to keep things interesting and fresh, while also progressing the site's narrative in ways that may be non-invasive to your personal plots.

character creation

on hoenn, you must make an account for each character that you create. in other words, this site does not use ooc accounts. in addition, the @tag name for your character is entirely up to you, but most players opt for their character's first name. if there is a tag you'd like that is taken by an old inactive character, please let staff know and they can delete the account for you!

next, go through the links on the lefthand side under "character creation" to develop your character. the application is mostly freeform with no required history; however, it is important to follow the starter pokemon point buy system should you desire pokemon on your character.

after creating your character, please post in moderation requests to be swiftly accepted. as a note, staff prioritize character application acceptances over other requests. lastly, character applications are left unlocked for you to edit at any time. drastic changes to your characters must be approved by staff.

once accepted, please post in the face claims and member directory threads!

how do i begin?

this section will outline ways to help you start your character's hoenn journey, including suggestions on how to spend your first 50 pokedollars! ensure that you have read the site rules thread before embarking on your journey. please note that upon acceptance, your character will be rewarded 50 pokedollars and 5 pokeballs to use in whatever way they wish.

introduce yourself in the hello/bye board, or join our discord! you do not need to join our discord to participate on this site. although announcements will be posted on the discord server, all information or notices will be on the physical site in some capacity.

in the site shop, spend your 50 pokedollars on a gachapon ticket that will randomly roll you three pokemon! however, you must first make a gachapon thread in the gachapon board.

OR in the site shop, spend your 50 pokedollars on a safari zone ticket to make a safari thread in the safari zone board. the safari selections change almost every month, so check if there are any pokemon that fit your fancy!

create your first solo wild thread, where you will be spawned three pokemon. however, choose the location wisely, for each location contains specific pokemon types.

create your pc and plotter. please note that a pc is required, but a plotter is not. this site also features infamy files, which are "plotters" that specify public versus private information. however, these will be folded into plotters with the new skin. feel free to use specific templates, or go templateless! in the discord's #resources channel or the templates and codes board, there are a variety of member-made templates one can use with credit and permission.

peruse the announcements board and/or toggle navigation (grid-like button on lefthand side of home page) to navigate to the site's event cycle thread. every month or two months, a new event cycle arrives with new events, activities, and more!

create or join an open thread. a list of open threads is on discord, but you may also peruse the open threads list. suggestions for creating open threads are a duo wild thread, social thread, or a mission thread.

create a trainer card for your character (optional).

for pokemon related resources, we heavily recommend the sites linked on the left. we often use serebii or msikma sprites and bulbapedia's pokemon information. however, feel free to pick your favorites.

as a reminder, we are currently using both generation 7, generation 8 and generation 9 data.
