AFTER THE ULTRA BEAST WAR, hoenn begins to heal. the megalopolan invasion may have failed; however, it is clear there is much more at stake. a prophecy revolving around a cyclical meteoroid, the appearance of necrozma and a dangerous and viral alien threaten the safety of the region once more.

with rocket's new boss, the resurgence and reappearance of the crime syndicate's presence is imminent. the league has done its best to repair its reputation, and with the victory of a war under their belt, perhaps it is enough. but the seeds of distrust have already been sown in the ravaged land of this region, causing many to wonder what will grow?

you do not need to read through the entirety of the timeline to write effectively on this setting. please do not get overwhelmed, for your characters do not need to ICly understand everything that has happened in the past. our community is also willing to help provide insight and accommodations should it be applicable. just jump in and have fun!

slateport city can be considered a "hub city" of this roleplay. although it was invaded and destroyed once by the old team rocket, slateport city has now been rebuilt. after the supposed "disbandment" of team rocket, slateport city is a lively urban center for the public.

humans with “psychic powers” or "aura powers" do not exist in this setting; however, pokemon may possess telepathic abilities to certain degrees.

team magma/aqua do not exist in this setting. likewise, other "evil teams" do not exist unless mentioned otherwise in the setting.

trainer cards can act as identification cards in hoenn. furthermore, the legal drinking age is 18.

mega evolutions and z-moves are a recent discovery in the world. you can find more information here. in this setting, gigantamax forms are mega evolution forms. moreover, dynamaxing exists in the region of galar, but it is not as rampant as it is in the games. dynamaxing is reserved for big championship battles or flagship gym battles. furthermore, occasionally the wild pokemon dens in galar will feature dynamaxed pokemon, but the government tries to keep the public away from them.

terastallization is a new phenomena in hoenn, brought by the 99943 METENO (check second page of timeline).

furthermore, dynamax is now in hoenn. old power spots have been discovered alongside artificial spots created by either faction or the imaginative powers of terastal crystals. subsequently, their connection to mega evolution has been uncovered.

team rocket has attacked and the previous leadership (SILAS BLACKWELL) was overthrown and killed. this has resulted in team rocket's "disbandment", but they have quietly reformed under new leadership. now, team rocket has returned, hoping to dismantle the league in hoenn after presenting their invaded region of kanto as having better quality of life under their rule.

team rocket currently occupies sootopolis city after a takeover.

please note that there are indeed moral grays to this site's story. nevertheless, the league and team rocket factions are differentiated by way of their core morals. the league will always strive to do good against all odds; however, team rocket is indeed a terrorist organization that has committed heinous crimes. characters within each faction possess different moral codes—but one character does not represent the sweeping values one faction possesses.

WAYS TO PLAY / TRIGGER WARNINGS

THIS SITE'S SETTING is more realistic and darker than other Pokemon forum settings. Elements of war, terrorism, gang-related crime, exist in Hoenn. However, players do not need to roleplay these darker genres out, nor do they need to participate in site events that are related to the darker stories of this forum setting.

Hoenn's event cycles often feature casual events on top of story events, with either kind dipping into slice-of-life or darker themes depending on the narrative.

Lastly, there is nothing wrong with joining Hoenn just to enjoy slice-of-life plots or without participating in the site's overarching plot! Even though the setting may be impacted by the story, feel free to RP what you would like in a respectable manner.

ARC I. for the glory of rocket

SUMMARY

TEAM ROCKET takes over KANTO, fails an invasion of JOHTO, and takes over SLATEPORT before kidnapping the Hoenn Commissioner. In the mean time, MEGA STONES are found but not yet usable, a legendary grants someone their powers to make them their AVATAR. Finally, DAHLIA GOODE is rescued.

⭐ AUGUST 2017
the KANTO REGION is taken over by TEAM ROCKET, while their JOHTO INVASION fails a few months later. Refugees from Kanto flee to other regions. Those who remain are subject to Rocket's militaristic rule. During this time, SILAS BLACKWELL takes over TEAM ROCKET'S HOENNIAN BRANCH.

leadership changes in HOENN as previous commissioner, ULYSSES MONROE hastily transfers power to DAHLIA GOODE.

⭐ OCTOBER 2018
several explorers in the desert ruins send out a distress signal, prompting the League to send help. Team Rocket weave themselves into the expedition and discover the explorers being attacked by a REGIROCK. In the process, MEGASTONE MINERAL VEINS are discovered.

⭐ NOVEMBER 2018
TEAM ROCKET invades SLATEPORT CITY. In the aftermath, many of Hoenn's previous gym leaders are unaccounted for, presumed dead or resigned. Hoenn's old council is ousted as political punishment for Slateport, while new council members appointed.

⭐ DECEMBER 2018
LILYCOVE AND FORTREE hold winter festivities to help fundraise for Slateport refugees. The WINTERTIDE OPEN: COORDINATOR CONTEST ends in TALIA BOSCH leaving her seat as CHAMPION. ARTICUNO arrives at the end of the AURORUS WINTER BALL to select SENRI HARADA as their AVATAR, but he soon disappears afterward.

ALEXEI IVANOV and THOMAS BENOIT discover a PHIONE EGG in SHOAL CAVE, while MOSSDEEP SPACE CENTER engages in mega stone/ultra wormhole experimentation with the help of the AETHER FOUNDATION AND JULES COTILLARD. The former uses a SHINY MACHINE with a MEGA STONE as a catalyst to change the expression of energy wavelengths.

⭐ JANUARY 2019
a defected TEAM ROCKET UNDERBOSS kidnaps and forces a JIRACHI awake on top of NAVEL ROCK TOWER. In order to bring back the dead, he wishes for a HO-OH, but the premature awakening of the JIRACHI causes a FALSE MANIFESTATION OF HO-OH to awaken instead.

after some intel, DAHLIA GOODE is finally rescued from TEAM ROCKET'S CLUTCHES thanks to LAURENCE ANDERSON, THOMAS BENOIT, STORMY SILPH, and KYLE LOPEZ.

ARC II. entropy against theodicy

SUMMARY

THE AETHER FOUNDATION & MOSSDEEP SPACE CENTER uncovers the secret to accessing ULTRA SPACE. Their testing causes several wormholes to open up over MOSSDEEP. Two ULTRA BEASTS lay siege to the land. In the meantime, TEAM ROCKET attempts to invade VERDANTURF and FALLARBOR, but are betrayed by their own. The previous HOENNIAN ROCKET BOSS, SILAS BLACKWELL is killed. NIHILEGO infect Pokemon with their neurotoxins and inadverdently create SHADOW POKEMON.

AETHER & MOSSDEEP SPACE CENTER use MEGA STONES and discover that they can create ULTRA WORMHOLES.

a TYPE: NULL is dicovered in LILYCOVE MUSEUM by TEAM ROCKET during a robbery. It has been transferred there from MOSSDEEP.

ULTRA WORMHOLES open up above MOSSDEEP CITY, allowing a gargantuan CELESTEELA and GUZZLORD to lay siege on the city. While some combat the ULTRA BEASTS, others infiltrate MOSSDEEP SPACE CENTER for answers: mossdeep forest raid, mossdeep downtown raid, mossdeep space center raid.

previous HEAD SCIENTIST, LUCAS LANE is revealed to be an ORACLE OF VICTINI. The Legendary sacrifices itself to defend against GUZZLORD, dispersing a special energy across the region. This energy proves to be pivotal in activating MEGA EVOLUTIONS. Furthermore, ULTRA WORMHOLE RADIATION imbues PASSHO BERRIES with the ability to grant Pokemon Z-MOVE CAPABILITY.

⭐ APRIL 2019
TEAM ROCKET invades VERDANTURF and FALLARBOR. The former's invasion is sabotaged by their own, allowing LEAGUE OFFICIALS to arrest most of the participating TEAM ROCKET MEMBERS. The VERDANTURF invasion is thwarted by a party that includes KYLE LOPEZ and FERNANDO SILPH and ends in SILAS BLACKWELL'S DEATH.

ARC III. in sackcloth and ashes

SUMMARY

SUMMER COMES EARLY to Hoenn thanks to the tropical climate. Dance parties, competitions and festivals dot the region's beaches, providing relief and jubilee to a region supposedly freed from the Rocket menace. By the end of the decade, TYPE:NULL are created via shady data from JULES COTILLARD, a BLACEPHALON decimates SLATEPORT NIGHT MARKET, DAHLIA GOODE is rescued by NIHILEGO CORRUPTION and rescue expeditions are launched for MATEO MARTINEZ in ULTRA SPACE.

THE LEAGUE announces that TEAM ROCKET as officially disbanded. SLATEPORT CITY is liberated and reconstruction efforts begin.

after joint deliberation between the commissioner and council, an ELITE FOUR is formed that includes KYLE LOPEZ, MATEO MARTINEZ, BAILEY COOPER and PERSEPHONE AMAVI.

HOENN CELEBRATES AQUA-FES 2019, a sports day-like competition. By the end, FERNANDO SILPH, LENORE GRIMALDI, and BALDER SCHWARTZ become avatars of TAPU FINI, TAPU LELE and SOLGALEO respectively. However, KYLE LOPEZ refuses AVATARSHIP from TAPU KOKO.

DARKRAI LURES MANY into a nightmare; however, these dream travelers soon realize they are in a HOOPA'S DREAM. After a dramatic battle, DARKRAI ALLIES ITSELF WITH TEAM ROCKET.

the BUG CATCHING CONTEST has helped control the BUG-TYPE POKEMON population of PETALBURG WOODS, allowing LEAGUE OFFICIALS to throw a costume party for the general public. At the party's conclusion, a hacked broadcast reveals footage of DAHLIA GOODE MURDERING TALIA BOSCH'S FATHER, THE FORTREE CITY MAYOR. The Commissioner attempts to clear her name, but becomes increasingly paranoid about her safety.

⭐ NOVEMBER 2019
JULES COTILLARD draws several people into performing SHADY DEALS for him. In the process, he provides them with the recipe to create a TYPE: NULL in a file called PROJECT: BEAST KILLER. Afterwards, COTILLARD is arrested.

THE GALARIAN EMBARGO is relieved, allowing the integration of Galarian species into Hoenn.

DAHLIA GOODE temporarily flees her post, seeking THOMAS BENOIT for assistance. She slips away in the middle of the night and is later revealed to have been infected by a NIHILEGO while in OLD ROCKET'S grasp.

a BLACEPHALON invades SLATEPORT'S NIGHT MARKET. Many lives are lost and the place is leveled by its EXPLOSIONS. In the meantime, DAHLIA GOODE has drawn to a NIHILEGO in the lighthouse, corrupting her briefly before she is rescued by KAZIMIR WYNTER as the POKKENGER, OLIVIA ABBIATI and KYLE LOPEZ. The BLACEPHALON is secretly captured by REMIEL CALCIFET and MARIE JULES with aid from DARKRAI.

ELITE FOUR MEMBER MATEO MARTINEZ is sucked into ULTRA SPACE by a wormhole created by BALDER SCHWARTZ'S SOLGALEO'S ULTRA WORMHOLE. Afterward, SCHWARTZ denounces the LEAGUE due to OLIVIA ABBIATI'S actions during the fight against BLACEPHALON and goes rogue.

ARC IV. the ultra beast war

SUMMARY

HOENN FACES THREATS FROM ULTRA SPACE. Signs of XERNEAS reveal themself in the region, while YVELTAL seeks balance in life and death. TEAM ROCKET develops a submarine headquarters before MEGALOPOLANS invade Hoenn in what is called THE ULTRA BEAST WAR. Eventually, this culiminates in an appearance of NECROZMA in SLATEPORT before it is taken away by a mysterious hand..

⭐ JANUARY 2020
on the same night as the blacephalon attack, a party that includes KYLE LOPEZ and STORMY SILPH dive into ULTRA SPACE and successfully rescue MATEO MARTINEZ. A week later, a group consisting of BALDER SCHWARTZ, KAZIMIR WINTER and ORION LYKOS venture into ultra space and discover ULTRA MEGALOPOLIS.

STORMY SILPH and CAIT ALFRIC encounter a mountain guide named FARHAN. As they perform an ancient tradition of lighting torches, STORMY SILPH battles the FALSE HO-OH from NAVEL ROCK TOWER and becomes AVATAR OF MOLTRES in the process.

in ULTRA MEGALOPOLIS, a pale-skinned people called MEGALOPOLANS are discovered. Their city is severely underpowered and their people are facing an energy crisis. They reveal themselves as cannibals, taking BALDER SCHWARTZ'S SOLGALEO from him before his group escapes back to Hoenn with the last of the lion's energy. Using SOLGALEO, the MEGALOPOLANS attempt to track down where their invaders have come from and use the Pokemon's energy to prepare for a counter invasion in the future.

the LEAGUE COUNCIL meets with HEAD RANGER LAURENCE ANDERSON and the commissioner to discuss the events of SLATEPORT'S ULTRA BEAST INVASION. At the same time, THOMAS BENOIT investigates the NIHILEGO toxins that have ailed DAHLIA GOODE, finding them to affect the brain in a controlling, parasitic manner.

STORMY SILPH is promoted to a seat in the ELITE FOUR as MATEO MARTINEZ recovers.

TEAM ROCKET BOSS, CADIS VON KLAUSSNER, returns to his garden to find an ETERNAL FLOWER FLOETTE. Unbenownst to him, the Pokemon possesses a ceaseless amount of bioenergy: a precursor to Xerneas' lifeforce spreading across the region.

A STRANGE IVORY TREE grows through LITTLEROOT TOWN'S THEATRE. The town holds a BEAUTY CONTEST to celebrate its natural beauty; however, both TEAM ROCKET and THE LEAGUE are tasked with investigating the tree. In the ensuing aftermath, the tree dies. However, both factions are able to procure samples of SAP to CREATE BLUE MULCH, which has the power to resurrect Pokemon. KAIDA ADACHI is killed by a BLACEPHALON'S appearance in the theatre's basement, but is magically resurrected the next day.

a TOWER CHALLENGE is issued by a dojo that has reconstructed the NAVEL ROCK TOWER. Those who have successfully cleared the challenge receive a KUBFU.

LAURENCE ANDERSON becomes AVATAR OF ARTICUNO after approaching the Pokemon in Shoal Cave. Presumably, its previous avatar died by losing control of their own powers.

the POKEATHELON arrives in Hoenn as REMIEL CALCIFET assumes the position of GALARIAN AMBASSADOR, working with DAHLIA GOODE to secure healthy relations with GALAR.

TAPU LELE selects ILLEANA REYES as its AVATAR; however, the island deity is a fickle creature and eventually leaves her too.

REMIEL CALCIFET encounters a MEGALOPOLAN GENERAL, PHILOMERA. He frees a ZEKROM that has been used by her to help create ULTRA WORMHOLES. The Legendary Pokemon declares the ambassador as its avatar.

BAILEY COOPER encounters a SPOINK carrying a peculiar RED ORB. Eventually, she encounters a GROUDON contesting a RAYQUAZA for a CRYSTAL FILLED WITH PRIMAL ENERGY unbenownst to her. She is subsequently granted AVATARSHIP OF GROUDON to help fend RAYQUAZA off. In the process, the mountainside battlefield is torn apart to reveal magmatic chambers underneath.

unbenownst to the region, a stray electric bolt from ULTRA WORMHOLES used by MEGALOPOLANS to sneak into the region strikes a magma chamber exposed by GROUDON'S FIGHT WITH RAYQUAZA. A litter of ZERAORA are subsequently born from this unusual phenomena, rescued by RANGERS, before being offered as prizes to Pokeathletes such as KYLE LOPEZ, GAVIN MERLINO, RAZZ KINGSMAN, FERNANDO SILPH, BALDER SCHWARTZ, KAZIMIR WYNTER, and OSCAR CLAYTON.

ELITE FOUR KYLE LOPEZ leaves for JOHTO to have a vacation with NOAH FABER; during their visit to ECRUTEAK, they are visited by HO-OH. Mysteriously, the Rainbow Pokemon grants the E4 with a RAINBOW FEATHER before flying off.

⭐ MID SEPTEMBER 2020
desperate for resources, the invading MEGALOPOLANS mount an attack on the region. Intel from SKYLER DROSS and NOAH FABER causes the LEAGUE to call an emergency meeting. The meeting convenes mid-September, and a plan for defense is hatched.

BAILEY COOPER is crowned as provisional CHAMPION and SELENA DESMARAIS is granted avatarship by TAPU KOKO who pulls their powers after the war. LUCAS LANE who manages to identify AVATARS IN THE ROOM thanks to his fading ORACLE POWERS. Later, THOMAS BENOIT is granted a position in the ELITE FOUR.

CADIS VON KLAUSSNER becomes ill. A Kantonian Rocket, DECLAN WALSH assumes leadership of the Hoennian branch. GAVIN MERLINO is granted SHADOW LUGIA while the BLACEPHALON is given to KATHERINE FAIRBURNE. Lastly, an admin, DOMINIC SINCLAIR is announced as the AVATAR OF DARKRAI alongside Walsh himself, proving that Pokemon can bestow their blessings on several humans at once.

⭐ LATE SEPTEMBER 2020
the MEGALOPOLANS attack from all sides in a conflict that becomes known as the THE ULTRA BEAST WAR or THE THREE DAY WAR. but the three main warfronts of METEOR FALLS, MAUVILLE, and LILYCOVE are the most impacted, for incredible energy seems to exist in each location. Eventually, the megalopolans are routed and defeated.

JULES COTILLARD is revealed to have been a MEGALOPOLAN in disguise who has used his SHINY MACHINE to change his appearance. During the war, he is captured alongside GENERAL VELMOS by TEAM ROCKET. On the other hand, TALIA BOSCH is killed in action by TEAM ROCKET discreetly, while the League takes GENERAL SMOHKE into custody. PHILOMERA is killed in action.

in MAUVILLE, a JULES COTILLARD activates a frequency that forces all TYPE: NULL across the region to evolve into SILVALLY and turn on their trainers.

in LILYCOVE, a GENERAL VELMOS summons a PRIMAL KYOGRE by smashing a BLUE ORB with his teeth. The KYOGRE is calmed and deterred.

The meteorite/crystal discovered in the METEOR FALLS CAVE unleashes powerful energy and a virus. AN ODD CREATURE, ONE THAT NO ONE HAS SEEN BEFORE (DEOXYS), emerges from the crystal, merging parts of Smohke's body into its forme to recreate its corporeal body. After a sudden attack, the DEOXYS launches itself and disappears into the heavens.

FERNANDO SILPH deciphers that the mural found engraved and painted in METEOR FALLS depicts a prophecy that claims that a meteoroid will strike Hoenn once again. The cave drawings wrap around the circular chamber, reflecting the story's notion that this is a cyclical event.

after the war, Hoenn begins to rebuild. OSCAR CLAYTON'S family company, INFINITY INDUSTRIES buys out GREATER MAUVILLE HOLDINGS after it has been revealed that they had a role in helping the MEGALOPOLANS warp in a XURKITREE within the depths of NEW MAUVILLE.

LAURENCE ANDERSON, THOMAS BENOIT, and ADRIAN MALCOLM are called to YVELTAL. With the war having brought more balance to life and death, the YVELTAL GRANTS AVATARSHIP to THOMAS BENOIT and ADRIAN MALCOLM.

⭐ OCTOBER 2020
The rift between this world and ULTRA SPACE deteriorates until it shatters due to excessive wormhole usage. The events of THE ULTRA BEAST WAR prove too distracting for the world's guardians. For a short amount of time, Hoenn is vulnerable.

in the same spot that BLACEPHALON had shown up in during new years, NECROZMA now resides. The ULTRA WORMHOLE it comes out of lacks the same neon lights that the region has grown to fear and flee from. This portal is an endless void that robs the senses of anyone that dares to stare into the abyss. Nothing survives for too long. Eventually, NECROZMA is fended off and taken by a sinister looking hand that drags it into an odd looking ULTRA WORMHOLE.
