Born and raised in Lilycove. His parents owed and were the head chefs of a, now famous, gourmet restaurant in the classier part of the city.
He is an only child. His parents love him very much and doted on him all they could but sadly from the time he could look after himself he was left alone a lot since their jobs were very demanding. He had to learn how to rely on himself from a young age.
His parents were free thinkers and allowed him to do most whatever he liked and encouraged making mistakes to teach lessons. That coupled with a natural curiosity and need to fill the boredom of being alone made him tinker with things around his home; taking apart appliances to see how they worked, trying to make the strange inventions he saw on TV, accidentally blowing things up....
Was never interested in a pokemon journey of his own so he never left on one. His parents still wanted him to have the option, and a companion, and bought him a Beldum. To him, this was the perfect pokemon, as Sprocket rarely needed looked after and could assist him in building things.
In school, he never had too many friends as most other kids thought him strange and later scary. Someone spread false rumors that he was planning to build a bomb in one of his notebooks. (He wanted to see if he could make a working rocket.)
When he finish his schooling his parents encouraged him to try for the prestigious Aerospace Engineering school in Mossdeep. While he was worried he wouldn't get in since some of his grades in school weren't so great, he knows jack about history, his excellence in math and science won him a spot.
Drake became known on campus as sort of an oddball but he was very passionate about what he was doing. He gained a strong desire to not just create but to innovate while he was in school. After six years of study he graduated with honors.
He was hired on to work at the Mossdeep Space Center after graduating, spending the next three years of his life researching and improving the rockets and equipment. He's made improvements like more durable spacesuits and more compact engines for easier launch.
When a spot opened up in the League for a Head Scientist, Drake was recommended by some supervisors for the spot. He really wasn't sure on taking it at all, especially with the trouble that had happened in Kanto and was promising to start elsewhere, but he ended up taking the position after a lot of soul searching. Building rockets was a blast (ha) but what he really wanted to do was help improve people's lives and this gave him a chance to do that on a wider scale.
Smart but has the emotional range and understanding of a brick.
The Bellsprout he found abandoned on Mossdeep and he adopted because he felt bad for it. Oozy is like his baby now.
Tends to get lost in his work.
Really wants to be a dad someday and he has a huge weakness for children.
Kind of lonely.
