with rocket supposedly vanquished, the hoenn region now faces incredible dangers spawned by the energies of ultra beast invasion.
despite the thin veil of peace, the public still faces unease.
aggressive pokemon wander the wilderness, some mutated into their mega evolved forms.
the scars of mossdeep's ultra beast invasion remain fresh. further still, legendary pokemon still appoint avatars, causing more alarm than awe.
in the meantime, a reformed rocket attempts to poison the ground water of hoenn's society in secretive fashions. what unseen threats still slither in the dark?
we're into the holiday season! hoenn's snowed in with new events (hoennian holidays) and more. crazy to think it's december again. with
the introduction of galarian pokemon, learnsets, abilities and "new megas", we've been quite busy haven't we?

hoenn is inspired by, but not associated with nintendo's pokemon franchise. the current skin was created by pharaoh leap using font icons primarily from ion icons and fonts from google fonts. in particular, we would like to thank kumachan and leap for their additional templates (staff temp, custom pc). lastly, custom templates like the gachapon, garden/swarm, and random event template were coded by ulla.
characters, with the exception of canons from the manga, belong to the members who write them, and all posts and templates on site are credited to their respective authors and artists. we claim nothing that is not ours.

"do we really
have to do this, leo?" asks a troubled younger rhian at her upperclassman. she hugs her happiny to her chest protectively, still hoping that leo will tell her this is all a joke and laugh it off and let them go back to their usual routine of discussing strictly theoretical hypothesis.

because it is a joke, isn't it? rhian is used to jokes. this could be as much a joke as that one time her cousin told her that if she went inside the creepy old mansion near school and caught the ghost haunting it, he and his friends would stop bothering her for the rest of the year.

something in his eyes, perhaps the sparkle she sees there now that she's never seen before, makes her doubt it is a joke after all.
"Weren't you the one who was curious about how reliable pokémon's understanding of the human language is? Of course we have to do it."

She makes the oddest questions, this girl. Why ask at all if she didn't want to follow through with the experiment? Leonardo's not going to budge on his decision. He's actually curious about it, too.

Their individual experience with training is evident at a first glance. Though Leonardo isn't the best trainer his age by far, he's successfully evolved his beldum into a metagross, and was on his way to getting the venipede all trained up as well.

Rhian's nervous stance and her refusal to give her pokémon room to grow expose her as a very inexperienced one, by contrast.

rhian's slowly
getting used to the idea of her fragile little happiny engaging in a brutal battle with her upperclassman's pokémon. and although the venipede doesn't look all that nefarious (she's played with her multiple times now), the fact that she was owned by someone with leo's reputation has her feeling quite terrified.

"of course i'm scared!" she pretty much screams at him.

what else did he expect? leonardo vermilion was a name well known around the school. highest scores in his grade, a face of unconventional appeal, and an attitude that could match the regice of myth in coolness; she wouldn't be surprised if he was also an ace trainer.
[break][break]
in her explosion of nerves, she ends up adding something she doesn't honestly believe and that she'd be too mortified to retract. "what regice, i think you're more like a crabominable!"
He laughs. It's not controlled, like the ones he'd been giving her, or sarcastic, like the ones he reserves for people getting on his nerves. It's not even one of those laughs he forces out when he's with his classmates. For once, Leonardo is genuinely laughing, and he has only the girl standing meekly before him to thank.

"You better put your happiny down now. I'm not going easy on you just because you're a cute girl."
[break][break]
Just like that, the battle begins. No further warnings, no countdown. Leonardo's venipede is already on her way to Rhian's happiny with a Steamroller, whether she let go of the pokémon or not.

there are two
not necessarily independent events happening one within a short span of the other.

first, there's the fact that only just dawned on her that she's developed hearing problems. after all, she's pretty sure she heard leonardo vermilion call her cute, which is impossible.

second, she has a venipede rapidly rolling in her direction trying to kill her or worse.
[break][break]
rhian's brain is having a hard time comprehending either of them.
[break][break]
faced with her trainer's indecision, the happiny takes matters into her own hands— or, rather, toes. she can feel the sadness in her trainer even if she can't quite understand most of her words, and it makes almost as good a method of communication as language.

the happiny moves to a side, making sure she's far away enough from her trainer that she wouldn't be harmed from the events of the battle, before she uses
If anything, Rhian's happiny shows more initiative than the trainer. It comes as a bit of a disappointment, but it fits exactly with what he was expecting.

His venipede is met with a second Steamroller that stops her in her tracks. A momentary stalemate, it would seem.

With a nod, he orders the venipede to return to his side. With another gesture, this time using his hand, he orders her to use Venoshock on the unsuspecting pokémon.

On the other front, Rhian seems unfazed by his words. This makes Leo frown. Was she really completely unaffected by him? Well, if his direct advances don't work, he'd just have to stick with what did. He keeps pushing.

"I meant it when I said I wouldn't go easy on you, Rhian. Aren't you gonna take the lead? Venipede's poison is pretty strong, you know."
