His eyebrows arched at the unusual command—he was pretty sure that the Mightyena line couldn’t naturally learn that.[break][break]

But that’s a clever way to do it all the same—at the same time, fucking annoying too, he thought as the area became covered up in a thick, soupy mist. Much to the Aerodactyl’s distaste, the entire area became blanketed in the thick excretion, and for some reason—he heard Kyle commanding the Mightyena to go up?[break][break]

Now that he couldn’t see anything—well, to be fair neither could the Aerodactyl—he knew that the best way to catch this dodgy little scrapper was to…[break][break]

It might be a little repetitive… but what other choice do I have? He continued to himself, he then whistled sharply to catch Terra’s attention.[break][break]

“No idea where it’s coming from, we have to catch it with a Rock Slide—when you see its shadow moving, home in on it with a Sky Drop!” he said, hoping that the Rock Slide would catch the Mightyena off-guard and give its position away.[break][break]

Bracing himself, he squinted through the hazy cover and heard the Aerodactyl’s screeching before the familiar, tell-tale crashing of boulders raining around the other side of the field.[break][break]

Aerocactyl uses Rock Slide in an attempt to lure out the Mightyena, and gets ready with a Sky Drop should the other reveal itself.

no shadows would be present... or at least new ones.

he hoped his mightyena had caught on his instruction without him saying much, which he unsurprisingly did. the mightyena had hung onto one of the floating rocks from the earlier move of his lycanroc, jumping from one of them to another until he reached a suitable height.

"electrify."

alpha would generate electricity with his thunder fang, biting down onto the floating rock until lightning coursed through the rock.

"aim, and fire!"

with its powerful hind legs, the mightyena would rock smash hard onto the floating rock hard enough to crush it. small projectiles would fly towards the flying-type, firing continuously until the rock itself was destroyed.

alpha leaps onto another floating rock soon after, still protected by the cover of the mist.

It’s the movement that catches the Aerodactyl’s eye, and he comes sweeping in for the Sky Drop—only to be met with surprise. Where the hell was that canine?[break][break]

The Fossil ‘mon lets out an alarmed screeching noise, because instead of grabbing onto a Pokémon, he instead hits mothing—and that’s when the first blast of electrified rock comes screeching at him. A pained cry emerges from the mess, but he’s not going to give up so easily.[break][break]

Certainly not![break][break]

“Terra! Forward! Dodge it with Agility if you can!” he calls out from the other side, still trying to see through the mess that had been whipped up all over. The fog was thick, it was heavy, it was most definitely annoying as hell.[break][break]

The Aerodactyl barrel-rolls out of the way of the smaller obstacles, dodging them by mere seconds—cutting too close every single time. As the largest piece came hurtling his way, the Fossil ‘mon suddenly rockets upwards, trying to regain purchase and to spot where the hell the canid had gone off to.[break][break]

Why was this fog so fucking thick?![break][break]

A cry of displeasure comes from the Aerodactyl.[break][break]

Without waiting for his human companion’s word, the Aerodactyl charges forward, blindly, into the fog with an Iron Head attack. Who knows what he’s going to hit?[break][break]

the projectiles were a bait to tell the aerodactyl where he was. it was a success for the most part. hitting it would have been preferable, but it doesn't compromise the entirety of the plan.

"i can't see anything, so you do you, alpha."

alpha has the advantage of having heightened senses. he doesn't have to rely on sight to know where the aerodactyl was. positioning himself precariously on top of one of the floating stealth rocks, he awaits until the aerodactyl closes in.

iron head crushes the rock. the agility gets the mightyena to miscalculate the jump and gets hit, but not before hopping and attempting to cling onto the fossil pokemon's back.

wind currents from the aerodactyl's rush clears part of the mist. part of the battlefield is still clouded by it, while the other part was cleared to allow trainers on both sides to see.

a command sounds from kyle. "thunder fang."

sparks appeared on the dark-type's maw as he sinks it on the aerodactyl's neck area had he successfully boarded the beast. if not, he'd take a chunk of any nearest body part it could.

Maybe it was a reckless move on the Aerodactyl’s part, after all.[break][break]

But it certainly paid to lure the damned canid out! Now that the two were flying above the fog, clear as day, the Fossil ‘mon heard the crackling of fangs as it felt a weight land on his back.[break][break]

“Flip over! You have him! Sky Drop!” Alexei shouts, squinting as the weird shadow bursts up above out of the fog, finally in a place where they can be easily seen by both Trainers.[break][break]

Would he be fast enough to flip over? The Aerodactyl attempts to do another barrel-roll in mid-air, hopefully to dislodge the Mightyena that’s trying to sink its electrified fangs into the Fossil ‘mon’s neck. A loud screeching cry rips from the Aerodactyl’s throat as he flips over, a wing being bitten down on, and for a few moments there’s a tussle high above as the other fights for a hold.[break][break]

It’s close, but it’s there.[break][break]

A few moments later, the Aerodactyl finds purchase and tries to grab onto the Mightyena, forcing himself to fly high, high as he can go before suddenly banking sharply in the opposite direction and pulling himself down; along with his angry, snarling, biting cargo.[break][break]

The two hurtle down towards the ground, and Alexei doesn’t know if the imminent crashing noise he hears a few moments later means victory or defeat for Terra. Or for Kyle’s Mightyena, whoever hit the ground hard at that very moment.[break][break]

Aerocactyl gets bitten in the wing by the Mightyena, still valiantly fights on! Barrel-rolls in mid-air and uses Sky Drop to grab the Mightyena and flies straight up before coming down with the force of a meteor in the foggy-af mess.

alpha was really only in the match just so he would stop whining about not being an important enough member of the team. it was expected that he goes down this way when the only way he can fight the enemy is to get close.

getting close to birds in close combat involves them hopping on top of them, and that also gets one to drop from the sky.

"cushion yourself form the fall. ice fang into hyper beam."

a ray of energy comes from the mightyena and onto the ground. ice fang influence's the hyper beam, freezing the air on its path all of a sudden. sheer cold permeates through the area, moreso towards the ground targeted. ice forms, until air freezes into snow. slush forms to cushion their fall.

they drop on the ground, knocked out. at the very least, their injuries aren't severe.

"we can end this here, i guess."

he releases his last pokemon as he recalls the mightyena.

Well, that was an unexpected surprise…[break][break]

It was a tie—now they were at one each.[break][break]

“Thanks for the save, and my god, why the hell does it have to be so foggy,” he says, pulling out a Moon Ball and returning the fainted Aerodactyl back inside. Now that it’s down to the wire, he knows he has to bring out the best.[break][break]

Maybe I was right to soften the blow first and save him for last… he thought to himself, whistling one sharp blast and watching as one of the larger shadows appeared overhead, eyeing the messed-up battlefield with a look of surprise. Turning around, the Salamence gives Alexei with this “what the hell just happened here” expression, and he can only shrug.[break][break]

“Terra got out of control. And no, I’m not risking Kyouya’s neck here—“ he begins to talk with the draconid, before the Stealth Rock closes down on the dual-type.[break][break]

Ugh.[break][break]

I hate that, he grumbles to himself as the Salamence lets out an annoyed roar and blasts off above the obstacles, pissed off.[break][break]

“…yeah, they hate your obstacles now,” he mutters, more to himself than to Kyle as the Salamence eyes the Manectric on the opposite side of the field. “Gabe. Keep off the ground,” he calls out, and the draconid lets out a scoffing noise, before turning his attention back to the Electric-type.[break][break]

“Flamethrower!”[break][break]

…looks like this was going to be a distance game as a strong blast of flames cut through the remnants of the fog from earlier.[break][break]

No, Salamence DOES NOT like Stealth Rock either.[break][break]

Either way, Salamence flies up and intends to stay up there, before unleashing a Flamethrower at the Manectric!

dragon-types were pokemon he was somehow comfortable with versing against. a salamence, no matter how intimidating they were, got kyle to ease up instead of tensing under the adrenaline of a match that hangs on the last one versus one fight.

"go."

the manectric runs through the battlefield, quick attack aiding his acceleration to reach top speed in an instant. the distance means that manectric has more than a fraction of a second to dodge the flamethrower, which was not a problem with the sudden burst of speed.

electricity starts to cackle in the manectric's fur. static was charging up from the friction, warming up the manectric for the battle.

"magnet rise."

the manectric paws generate magnetism that opposes the earth's own magnetic forces. he starts to hover a bit above the ground, maintaining distance until the salamence acts once more.

That’s going to be a problem… Alexei thought, seeing what he was up against. While he had a few Electric-types of his own, he still preferred to stick around with his Flying-types most of the time—at least, until the situation changed and he had to adapt.[break][break]

He was familiar with Magnet Rise, having encountered some other non-Electric types that could use the move effectively. Knowing that catching a fast moving target was going to be a problem, he whistles again in the Salamence’s direction.[break][break]

“Scare it and bathe it in flames again,” he says a few moments later, and the Salamence then turns his eye on the Manectric and gives the Electric-type his best hideous moue, an attempt to freak it out and slow it down.[break][break]

Whether or not it was going to work, the Salamence then continued to hover at the particular height, taking aim and firing another strong blast of Flamethrower at the Manectric, hoping to catch it before it can drift too high and challenge him up in the air.[break][break]

I hope it doesn’t get too close because holy shit that’s going to be terrible if it does. Lucky he’s part-Dragon, so the Electric attacks aren’t going to work as much, but… what about Ice-type… better make sure to keep it away and down on the ground! He continued to himself in the back of his mind, watching what was going down from afar.[break][break]

the manectric flinches at the expression that the salamence makes, giving enough time for flamethrower to reach the manectric this time.

the cold brought by his migthyena's last attack mitigates the temperatures braved by the manectric, though a direct hit from a jet of flames is still a direct hit. despite of it, kyle remains steadfast on the ordeal.

"rush him."

quick attack brings him from point a to point b, with the latter being the salamence, in no time. while the fire was still being forced upon the electric-type, the manectric travels as a blur through the attack. a discharge of electricity could be seen from the canine's feet as he forced a surge to manipulate the magnet rise to let him travel airborne faster.

ice fang forms on his maw, the cold, as well as the tail wind from travelling fast, lessens the effects of the attack as he closes in. the flames were not the only ones it aims to go against to as the manectric plans on sinking his fangs onto the salamence's throat.

Nobody should be able to reach the Salamence—he was floating up in the sky, out of reach of the Manectric, right?[break][break]

How totally, completely wrong Alexei was on that assumption.[break][break]

He was surprised to see that the Electric-type had closed the distance—just how was the other able to float up that high, was that even possible—before seeing the glistening cold that was gathering round the Manectric’s maw.[break][break]

“Protect!” he calls out, and before the Ice Fang attack connects, the Salamence manages to defend himself at the very last second, before rebounding away at the contact. Knowing that the other was in such close range, he knew he could take the risk now.[break][break]

“Dragon Claw!” he adds a few moments later, and the draconid comes rushing forward, front limbs rearing up and ready to strike, to potentially swat the Manectric out of the air. Boy, if that Ice Fang had connected, that would’ve sent him down and out for the count.[break][break]

But he had to keep in the fight just a little bit longer! He knew he had to![break][break]

Salamence uses Protect to block the incoming Ice Fang, and follows it up with a Dragon Claw!

the good thing about being airborne was that you can contort your body in ways that you cannot do on the ground.

"defend yourself."

the salamence closes in. the manectric waits until the dragon-type moves its claws. her body twists with one burst of electricity on his feet, front legs pointing on the ground with her hind legs to the skies. his iron tail comes in between her and her opponent's claw, static creeping from her body to the dragon.

she stares at the dragon with intensity, as if to tell it that it no longer was intimidated by the dragon's appearance.

eelctricity surrounds the pokemon as it kept the position, pimping high voltages out. wild charge aimed to harm the other as long as contact is maintained between the two of them.

He wasn’t expecting so many things to happen all at once.[break][break]

What he knew, and was painfully aware of, was the fact that if Gabriel came crashing to the ground, he was going to lose.[break][break]

Seeing that the Manectric was now coasting almost at the same level the Salamence was, he wonders if this is even possible—and then whistles sharply.[break][break]

“Back away! Scare it again, Flamethrower if you can wing it!” he calls out, hoping that the draconid can hear him and his attempt doesn’t fall on deaf ears. Thankfully, the Wild Charge attack only hurts so much, bless Salamence’s dual-typing.[break][break]

Another hideous moue erupted from the angry Salamence’s face, hoping to scare it a second time, before another super-heated blast of flames attempts to catch the Manectric in the face. Hopefully, just hopefully, he would be able to end this in a draw.[break][break]

But would that be too much to ask?[break][break]

Salamence attempts to dodge back but still gets hit by Wild Charge (bless you Dragon-typing hue), attempts to use Scary Face before aiming another Flamethrower!

he hoped wrong.

the fact that he went back to such tactic meant that he probably gave up on staying in close combat with the manectric. it was most likely the right choice. he lists the moves that has been used by the salamence in his head, guessing that they were the only options the salamence had if had to repeat a tactic that his manectric managed to falter earlier.

"drop."

the scary face gets the manectric once more. she freezes in place for a moment, though she weakens magnet rise at her trainer's command. gravity pulls her out of the way of the flamethrower instead of her own volition.

"and charge."

the voice snaps her back, magnet rise powering back online at full capacity. she hastens to a quick attack as she goes straight ahead towards the salamence in an attempt to tackle it head on.

kyle readies a command to stop, anticipating the protect if the same pattern goes.
