That WIND RAGE was no joke. Lam was fairly certain it was much more powerful than his own corviknight had ever managed to conjure up in his own mega evolved state. The torrential winds gusted up and crashed against his altaria before she could even think to maneuver a way to dodge the onslaught.[break][break]

So she turned and faced the music with a last burst of endurance. No retreat. As the attack hurdled her way, Mallow made no effort to move away. Her beak opened, and a DRAGON PULSE rippled free, the beam of draconic energy crashing forward to seek out the corviknight - a gesture returned.[break][break]

And then the hit came.[break][break]

Harsh winds ruffled through her feathers, stripping Mallow of the crystallized coating that had shielded her throughout the match. The last of it burst in a bright, shimmering burst of pink. The sound of shattering glass and gems the soundtrack to her descent as she fell to the ground in a heap, unconscious.[break][break]

"Ya done good," Lam called as he pulled Mallow back to her ball. As to be expect of one of his top aces, but the match wasn't over yet.[break][break]

His pidove remained on the field, miniscule in comparison to the empowered lapras she was squaring off against. But Poppy had never been in short supply of moxie, so... "Last ditch effort, Pops!"[break][break]

They didn't go easy on her, either. Something that Lam picked up on quickly, and appreciated as Caleb had hoped. The blizzard blew the little bird back, but her little wings beat against the weathering storm until she could break out of the wind current. Instead of soaring straight toward the lapras in retaliation, Poppy shot straight upward until she was even more of a pinprick to spy.[break][break]

And then she twisted and plummeted down. Energy coalesced around her tiny body, hardening into a protective barrier, ready for impact. The z-move might not have packed as much of a punch as usual, thanks to the G-MAX RESONANCE, but it certainly would still pack one as she aimed right for Lyra before the boom of impact.[break][break]

He had no real issue with the sygna suit, really. He hadn't specified, and if anything, it was a good reminder that even beyond the gym, odds might not always be stacked in your favor. The playing field wasn't always perfectly balanced or even.[break][break]

Things moved quickly, then. He noted the strategy that set in motion--Chomper shot into the air too quickly for Egg to pursue. He frowned, though, at the duress Josh's flygon seemed to be under. Maybe he should-[break][break]

It was a bit too late for that. The loud clap of another BOOM BURST downed his noivern, who was quickly recalled in a beam of light. And that was exactly the distraction that Andrea's pokemon needed to make his move.[break][break]

The hydreigon collided with Egg, driving the togekiss down to the ground. She trilled, flailing under the larger dragon's weight. Once loose, Egg circled and scattered a ring of LIFE DEW to heal some of the ache. Then, she looked back to Lam, who shook his head. With a whistle, he called the togekiss back to his side.[break][break]

She drifted down, and his hand ruffled the soft, feathery fur at the top of her head in praise. "I think ya both proved yourselves plenty!" he called out, swiftly drawing the match to an end before more damage was done.[break][break]

"I'd say you worked together well, even when things got tense." A nod to Andrea Vaneau's dedication to keep Josh Devlin from panic in the heat of the moment. He made his way across the pitch, a set of matching badges in his open hand. "To be expected from fellow gym leads, of course! Good last minute strategy with that fly-boom burst combo, too. Though.." Hopefully the damage on the flygon's wings was easily recuperable. "Next time, I might be quicker to call things before any of them get pushed too far. Regardless, great work."

Whatever Freya’s opinions on jirachi might be, Lam thinks that it is the cutest, most adorable weapon of mass destruction. How could it not be, with its sweet little face and celestial aesthetic? Okay, so maybe his fiancé’s habit of finding something cute about literally any pokemon is rubbing off on him.[break][break]
But jirachi is obviously cute regardless.[break][break]
And Lam’s sort of fond of the more deceiving pokemon. The ones that look utterly harmless, only to pack a punch. Which is why he sends out his pidove as the room starts to shift and change under the sway of the Wishmaker’s power.[break][break]
It’s a little difficult to not be awed by the sight. A galaxy unfurls above, around them. As if they’ve been pulled into some nebulous space. Violet and fuchsia swirl with darker indigo as distant smatterings of light pock the stretch above.[break][break]
"Oh, wow." Lam’s face lights up in a grin to see jirachi so delighted to beckon them into its game, but for how long that amusement of his would last, who knew? The shadows that dance along the edges of its cosmic power give Poppy the in she needs, and the pidove sinks into the darkness to sneak up on the legendary from behind.

Lam nodded along as Johnanna replied, understanding filtering into his expression. “Miss having ya on the roster,” he began, only for his eyes to brighten curiously. “A challenger, huh? Bet you’d knock that out of the water.”[break][break]
A soft laugh followed Jojo’s exasperation as she was distracted by her seviper, and his own glance followed the movements of her seviper. “He’s eager to fight, huh? He could relate—the shinx in his arms quickly grew bored of being held and scrambled free. He tumbled through the dirt and popped up, quickly engaging with a raboot that was hopping on by.[break][break]
The vaporeon would’ve been a better match, but it was too late for that. She continued to mutely sit alongside Lam as Noodle stunned the bunny with a WILD CHARGE.[break][break]
“Oh, not too bad. Things are running smoothly at the gym, at least, but everything else… ehhh?” He waffled a hand back and forth. But that felt pretty common for just about everyone who lived in Hoenn, no?[break][break]
It’d be nice to catch a breath, though.

He couldn’t say he was pleased to find out that there was a poaching ring operating in the city right under his nose, but he’d certainly make sure the measures to shut the whole thing down were enacted. Even if that meant pitching in on a stake out. Had he ever done an actual stake out before? Lam actually didn’t think he had.[break][break]
The gym leader shifted in his seat, antsier than his usual, easygoing nature usually gave away. “If anything, that should make things go smoothly, yeah?” If they knew what to expect, that was. He was a bit more eager to get moving than Haoyu was, but he waited—allowing the fire warden to take as many photos as needed. The more evidence, the better.[break][break]
Until the Pidgey.[break][break]
“Yep, time to go,” he replied swiftly, big bleeding heart that he was. But rather than bust out of the car and charge in, he popped the door handle quietly and slipped out, expecting his companion to do the same.

In the time that had passed since that trip to Mt. Chimney, Lam hadn’t called upon Virizion that often. The realization that the Sword of Justice had actually bestowed a portion of its favor was still a surreal thing to him. When he’d parted ways with the rest of the group, the lava flow safely diverted from the town below, he had expected that to be it. Matias was the sword’s knight, after all. Lam had just been…helping.[break][break]
But then the leaf had appeared in his pocket.[break][break]
He hadn’t found it until after he’d returned home. Having proven to his fiancé that yes, he was still in one piece, it slipped out of his coat and drifted in a lazy spiral toward the floor. Even then, with that token, he’d hesitated.[break][break]
Eventually, it was curiosity that drew him to Route 101—the grassy stretch seemed like a decent enough place to let the leaf loose on the breeze. He felt sort of stupid, because maybe it was just for emergencies, or something? But Virizion still appeared, all the same, a brighter green than the soft grass beneath its feet.[break][break]
"Hello again." It trotted around him, a showy display of itself before pressed his palm to the center of its head in polite greeting. The both of them soon distracted by the unexpected, ashen blur that shot by.

Spikes of ice jutted up from the earth as the flygon crashed into his opponent. And though the sandslash was sent flying backward, the smash of frost and ice pelted into the dragon’s hide—drawing a bellow from deep in Ladon’s belly.[break][break]
His wingbeats faltered, the steady buzz ceasing as he dipped low in the air and then skidded across the pitch as the chill momentarily locked up his limbs.[break][break]
He came to a stop in a plume of dust and ice fragments, the sandstorm continuing to rage around them.[break][break]
The dragon’s tail lashed against the earth as he squinted through the grit to find where his opponent had landed.[break][break]
His wings struggled to lift him into the air again, so he rolled to his feet and lunged forward in stilted moment, DRAGON CLAWS flashing to swipe at the other pokemon.

Avoiding the worst of the traffic jam, Lam let out a sigh of relief as he shook his head to refocus. The shadow that cast over them instinctively made him duck closer to Pepper’s back. Jack Napier on his mantine blew by them, but there was no giving up the gun just yet![break][break]
“We’re still in this, Pepp! For sure! But hold off on any speed moves for now—gotta wait for the right moment.”[break][break]
For now, the pair would rely on their mutually competitive spirits to push them forward and dog the mantine as closely as they could manage![break][break]
Not to mention there were the WHIRLWINDS to contend with. “Sink!” The feraligatr dropped lower in the water—attempting to avoid the worst of the winds before they buffeted against more bulk and knocked them off course. The surface currents smacked Lam against the face and he sputtered, trying to ignore it until they were through the worst of it.[break][break]
