"ok just like we talked about. we're gonna take this gym by storm." he whispered to his pokeball as he released a zeraora from its pokeball before they entered through the doors to the gym. in reality it was his zoroark disguised as zeraora that was joining him in this battle, after all he managed to get the specialty of this gym from the leader herself. there was no way he wasn't going to take advantage of that after coming so far, so they were going to need every edge they could take.

"yo miss gym leader! i'm here for a challenge, and a brought a friend along." he called out as he walked onto the arena and placed a hand onto the zeraora and gave it a stroke on its head that earned him a purr of pleasure. he really wished he could use his real zeraora in this battle but the little pokemon was a bit too young and green to even have a casual battle, so it was out of the question that he would be out and fighting a gym challenge of all things. hopefully though his zoroark would be able to tell the little lightning cat all about the battle afterward.[break][break]

Kazimir entered the arena in the least convenient time for the gym leader. It was around noon, which was when Katherine fed her pokemon. However, when dealing with so many ghosts... Some of them are bound to make even the simplest of tasks feel daunting.

Her Sableye was only willing to consider real gems as food. Her Gengar was willing to eat anything, but rarely kept the food inside his body. Instead, he allowed it to phase through his belly and stain the floor. And lastly, her Phantump floated away whenever food came near him.

He enjoyed the chase his trainer had to go through.

"Huh?"
[break][break]
Kazimir's announcement promotes the woman to turn around quickly, still holding a couple of pink puffins in her hand. "Oh. I didn't realize my break was already over." But it was better to get this challenge out of the way now rather than later. Her ghosts stole enough of her time. "It's nice seeing you again. Both of you, I mean. I hope he's been biting you less."

The lack of gloves on Kazimir's hands is noted, but for now, Katherine pays little mind to it.

"Boo, are you up for a fight?" The Gengar's wicked smile said it all. They slowly submerged into the floor as if diving into water, only to resurface in front of Katherine herself to face Kazimir and his electric partner. "The first move is yours. Good luck."

"oh yeah, don't worry he's well trained this time." he shot her a wink as the two of them got into position after offered the first turn to strike. in his mind kazimir wondered how long he could keep the charade up, seeing the gengar meant that type advantage shouldn't hurt their chances too badly like the last few gyms but it was never that easy was it? he was so close to the top that he knew that that last step would always be one hell of a road block, but he was ready this time, he had the element of surprise on his side after all. "rush in there with a night slash!"

its claws erupted into sinister black energy as the cat rushed forward and jumped at the ghost with wild abandon and slashed at it with its claws. zeraora were new pokemon to the region, so it was suffice to say that not a lot of people knew what moves it could learn. electric type ones were a given but pokemon were always full of much more surprises after all so one could learn just about anything if they studied it enough.[break][break]

Even this short of an order wasn't necessary. The beginning of a battle with Katherine's Gengar was often the same: they're expected to lead with a HYPNOSIS first and foremost. So naturally, the Gengar's eyes glow with a ruby shade as he stares intently ahead, searching for the Zeraora's eyes with his own. Should it land successfully, the electric-type would find themselves succumbing to a deep slumber.

If not, she expects the NIGHT SLASH to connect and damage her ghost. It's a sacrifice both the gym leader and her partner choose to make.

as the cat made its way towards the ghost the red glow of its eyes gave it enough pause for it to fall under its gaze and the cat suddenly felt itself slowly slip into a daze as it started to wobble in place. "what the...c'mon simba don't sleep on me now! hey!" the zeraora fell onto its butt as it sat right up and lowered his head to take a small cat nap in the middle of the battle. not the best way to start a gym challenge. "i said wake up ya dang kitten!"

It's simple, effective, but most of all? Dirty. But it fails to make her feel bad for Kazimir or his pokemon. Charging head-on at a Gengar was admirable, but also incredibly stupid.

The ghost-type claps his hands once, and the resounding sound of his hands meeting each other conjures forth a cold gale of wind, carrying shards of ice along with the breeze. Should it land, it will inflict damage and slow down the cat for the rest of the fight.

From this point and onwards, until it wakes, they're only building a larger advantage.

"simba! simba! sch-simba! c'mon get up!" his cries went unanswered as the cat was enjoying some sweet dreams by the small smile on his face as he sat there exposed on the battlefield. he couldn't blame his opponent from taking advantage and using a cold wind to strike on the sleeping zeraora. kaz knew what would happen if it hit and he did his best to hide his embarrassment as the winds wrapped around the yellow cat, forming a slick sheet of ice around its fur as its body began to morph. fur turned darker and his limbs changed shape as the illusion wore off and instead of a zeraora there was a zoroark sitting in its place.

"crap...schwarz get up! the jig is up ya gotta get up and kick some butt!" their cover was blown and now they needed to get serious for a moment, but the damn fox was still asleep! seriously was he going to lose three times in a row now? what was going to make this one worse was that he hadn't even gotten a good move in at all. boy were these new gym leaders something else.

Well, this was a surprise.

Katherine doesn't expect the Zeraora to be replaced with a Zoroark, but frankly, it's a good surprise. One that she appreciates and earns some respect from her. She didn't give Kazimir enough credit until this very moment. Fooling her was no easy task, but he'd managed to achieve it.

"Aw, and I thought you brought the cat with you. Smart move though. Choosing a dark-type for my gym is not a bad idea." Sure, he had yet to make a successful move in battle, but he's shown that he's capable of such through other means.

"How about you help them wake up then, Boo?" It begins with a gleam that grows brighter and brighter, a pink light that washes the entirety of the arena. The DAZZLING GLEAM promises that the Zoroark will stir awake and at least get a shot in this battle.

he would really enjoy the compliment if he wasn't worried about his pokemon being a sitting duck. "yeah uh, decided to try and use my head a little bit more for this one. now if only someone would use theirs to wake up!" that last bit wasn't flattering to himself but he had battling on the brain and his pokemon wasn't exactly cooperating with that.

luckily his voice reached out to the zoroark as it opened its eyes and shook a few ice crystals off of its fur as the light that was building around the gengar started to blind him. realizing what was happening managed to make the dark type suddenly more alert as it rolled onto its back and a substitute image of itself took its place as the light engulfed it whole. once it faded the zoroark was back on his feet eyeing the gengar and let out a low growl as it waited for its next move. "hope you enjoyed that nap, we're in it for the long haul now buddy."[break][break]

Her order can only mean one thing: a second ICY WIND was coming. The low temperature inside the arena provides the Gengar with comfort, allowing the executing of the ice move to happen faster this time around. The breeze itself is soft and gentle, but the ice shards that come along with it are sharpened to the point that one might even confuse them for daggers.

It seemed as if with each subsequent ICY WIND, the Zoroark's speed was lowered and their advantage grew.

cold winds wrapped around the zoroark once more that chilled the dark type to the very bone as he could feel his body growing stiff. still he shook off the small flakes of snow and ice that landed on him and gathered his hands together and slammed them into the ground as dark energy erupted from where he struck and a night daze blew back at the winds around him before surging forward towards the gengar. "hell yeah schwartz! show them that you can still take 'em on without any illusions buddy!" he was grateful that a lot of his pokemon still kept their natural battling instincts and didn't need too many commands from him to fight back. if that was a good thing or not he was at least grateful that they were still there but he knew he could give a bit more instruction or praise to them.[break][break]

At this point, in a match of speed, the Zoroark had no chance of matching Gengar. The ice clung to the dark-type's form, slowing them down more. It's a disadvantage both Katherine and her Pokemon intend to abuse.

The NIGHT DAZE finds the Gengar, managing to drain the ghost-type of its hp considerably. The use of long-range attacks wasn't out of the question quite yet, and so, the battle wasn't over. Kazimir and his Zoroark's chances were low, but still very much alive.

"Hide yourself, Boo."

A second DAZZLING GLEAM comes into life as the same warm, pink light washes the arena with its shade. It blinds everyone for just a moment— long enough for the ghost-type to dip and sink into its own shadow, effectively disappearing. Where he is, where he'll streak - it all depends on its opponent's actions.

the strike against the gengar hit its mark and made a critical impact by the sight of its reaction that prompted kazimir to pump up his fist. he didn't want to jinx their luck but his enthusiasm for the fight was starting to grow. however said enthusiasm took a hit when the ghost suddenly lit up the arena with a bright light that blinded both trainer and pokemon, schwartz in particular took it extremely harshly as he could feel the light burn his own skin as he was pushed back a few steps.

while his pokemon may have been blinded kazimir himself was able to keep most of it out of his eyes thanks to his hands and was able to see the ghost dip into the shadows. a sneak attack? expected from a ghost type but to say he's had experience with them was a bit of a lie. still he wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine, "schwartz let's throw it back at them, but on my mark!"

despite the light leaving spots in the zoroark's vision he raised his arms together into the air as he furiously blinked trying to find the gengar with his blurry vision. kaz took a breath to wait for any kind of movement from just about anywhere until he snapped his fingers as he exhaled his breath to calm his nerves. he knew he had to keep his head clear but still in the game to win this. he knew that in a game of speed his zoroark would not win, that was fine, it meant that it gave them a secret advantage after all, a move that needed a faster opponent to set off and catch them off guard depending on how its used. "copycat!"

a light erupted from the zoroark's hands as his copycat had copied the gengar's dazzling gleam and filled the arena once more with blinding light that was ready to blind their opposition this time around.[break][break]

The blinding light makes returns, and this time, it's not Gengar who calls upon it. The Zoroark manages to blind the ghost-type just as easily as it was blinded moments ago, serving him a taste of his own medicine. It's successful enough to pull Gengar out of the shadows and cause him to reappear in full, but the damage is minuscule and easy to ignore.

The ghost-type chooses to forget about the games he had in mind until now, and amp it up a little. With his eyes closed, Gengar levitates towards the Zoroark with a shadowy arm, intent on delivering a powerful SHADOW PUNCH.

And then he stops in his tracks, the wisps of shadow that decorated his arms fading away. His eyes open, and a second HYPNOSIS is executed. Red waves emit from the pokemon, singing a lullaby to the dark-type under the false promise of a good night's sleep.
