Something about the ocean had always managed to ease Fay's heart. The young girl figured it was due to her feeling so small compared to how big the ocean was. She sat on the warm sand, her head turning a few times to check if anybody had been around - a wave of relief upon noticing that the normally lively beach was quiet on a sunny Tuesday evening. Kicking off her worn out shoes, Fay burrowed her toes into the sand her eyes glued onto the vast waters. Small splashes within the waters indicated the movements of wild pokemon, and there was a yearning within her to go and see what it was. However Fay never learnt how to swim due to no one teaching her, and also since there wasn't a beach near Celestic Town.

She longingly stared at the crashing waves, but knew it was pointless to try and learn. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden nudge of her Vulpix. His eye's had the desire for attention as he continued to nude Fay over and over again until finally she gave into his persistence - gently grabbing the vulpix and placing him onto her lap. Shadow was finally content, curling up and looking towards the waves as Fay stroked at his fur.

Fay enjoyed the peaceful evening, hoping things would only get better.

Fini tapped Koa's fin to alert the Tirtouga of her need to breathe. She was getting better at freediving, but she had limits that aquatic pokemon did not. She really wished she could just breathe underwater. How much easier would that make things for her. How many secrets she would be able to discover. Koa tilted upwards and Fini held tight on his shell as he carefully ascended back to the surface. Azul and Reef were following them, lazily spiralling upwards until Fini reached a point where she knew her eardrums would not hurt to infinity and beyond by a more rapid ascend. That's when Azul took over and Fini watched in excitement as the ocean surface grew closer rapidly.[break][break]
A huge gulp of air that almost sounded like a gasp as they broke through the surface, flying a couple of meters off the water before hitting the water again. With a huge grin on her face, Fini closed the distance between her and the Mantine with a few quick forward strokes and climbed on his back, lying on her back in asprawl. "This was great!" Fini exclaimed at her trio of pokemon as she checked her watch. "Beat our last record by two seconds." She announced and a collective pokemon approving cheer followed her words. Breath still hitched, Fini patted Azul's back. "Take us home buddy. That paper's not going to write itself."[break][break]

Watching the Wingulls soar through the sky, Fini allowed herself to relax and enjoy the gentle cruise back to the beach, moving only when she felt the sand rub against Azul's belly. Getting off, she toyed with Mantine's antennae playfully before walking out of the water, followed by a cheerful Corsola all the way to her bag. All this time she had not remover her diving goggles, which would seem odd, but without them, she was practically blind. She was not in a hurry to grab her towel to dry off as she was in her surfing suit which kept her warm. The first thing she reached for was her glasses.[break][break]
One hand holding the pair of glasses still, she removed the goggles and smoothed her short wet hair backwards. "Aah, much better." She exclaimed contently as she put her glasses on and rummaged through her backpack for a cereal bar. The beach was rarely so quiet that only she and another person would be on it and Fini was not about to waste that opportunity. So what if she had a due date for her paper tomorrow? It was for 12:00 and she would be damned if she couldn't pull an all-nighter for enjoying the sea a bit longer.[break][break]
OOC: @fay If you feel she won't approach Fini on her own, you can have the corsola stray closer for a friendly greeting with the Vulpix.

The sudden abnormal waves caught Fay's eye. The girl was fully expecting a wailmer or another pokemon to emerge from the deep depths of the ocean, and her heart began to rapidly beat from the excitement and wonder as she awaited for it's surface. Fay's vulpix's ears twitched at the sound of the waves and he too was curious to see what would pop out. Leaping from Fays lap, Shadow approached closer to the waves not expressing care that he would get drenched even though he was a fire type. Fay stood up, as she wasn't sure if whatever surfaced could be a potential danger or not. Regardless of what it was, she wanted to be ready if it was indeed a threat.

The oceans breeze blew over, messing about with Fay's hair. Just as she readjusted the hair that blocked her view, she spotted out Fini and her pokemon practically flying out from the water. It was a shocking sight to see, since Fay had been expecting a pokemon - not a person to be coming from the ocean. A splash of cold water landed on Fay's face, and she was quick to wipe it off with the sleeve of her clothes. From the looks of things, Fay noticed Fini before hand seeing how the other girl didn't react when Fay accidentally clapped out of pure amazement.

Seeing how she was unnoticed, Fay saw it as a good chance to leave. She was a person who liked to keep social interaction at a bare minimum. Just as she turned around to leave, her vulpix shadow dashed towards Fini and her pokemon. Shadow was eager to greet them, and quickly brushed up against Fini's dripping legs. If it weren't for Shadow's over eagerness and friendliness, Fay would have been able to avoid this interaction but now she saw no way too. If Fini was smart enough, she would know that the vulpix belonged to her, because well.. there were only two people at the beach.

Fay stayed a distance away from Fini and only beckoned Shadow with the wave of her hand. But seeing that the vulpix did not want to budge from Fini's side, Fay had no choice but to approach her. Fay walked towards Fini, trying to conceal her curiosity and her annoyance. Awkwardly staring at Fini for a few moments, she finally spoke. "Uh.. sorry about him" Was the only thing she said, and her gaze flickered towards the vulpix.

"Woah!" She yelped in surprise as a pokemon weaved through her legs while she was crouched, the fishing of that cereal bar temporarily forgotten as maintaining balance was more important. Looking around, Fini saw a Vulpix of bright reddish-brown fur looking at her curiously. "Hello to you too." She smiled at the pokemon and sat on the sand, thinking it a better plan than trying to stay crouched. She extended her hand towards the pokemon but did not try to pet it. She was asking permission as was the right thing to do. [break][break]

"Uh.. sorry about him," a dark haired girl said awkwardly, causing Fini to look up. "Oh no worries. He is not bothering me at all." She said, looking at the red Vulpix in fascination. "I'm used to Alolan Vulpix, so this guy here is a treat!" She assured the girl, one hand finally pulling the cereal bar out of her pack and the other hovering around the Vulpix, ready to provide rubs and pets for as long as the pokemon wished. [break][break]

"Never been to Alola, but the fact that vulpix is a ice type is kind of strange." Fay responded back toward Fini, if she was from Alola then it explained how she was so skilled in surfing. Her eyes hovered back to Shadow, who ended up accepting Fini's affection pressing her muzzle into Fini's hand and rubbing her cheeks against it. She took a glance towards Fini's pokemon, the corsola did end up wandering close to Fay it's eyes peering up at her. Fay crouched down onto her knees and gently rubbed the corsola around it's cheeks.

The sound of crashing waves caught Fay's attention. To her it going into the ocean was intimidating, a person could easily drown or be swept away never to be seen again, Fini's talent was an impressive one. "You looked pretty cool out in the waves." she complimented awkwardly, her cheeks reddened. Normally Fay would try to steer clear from any social interaction, but she felt that getting to know the one other person on the lone beach wouldn't be to bad. "I'm Fay Carter" She introduced stiffly, and extended her hand out towards her for a shake.

Fini smiled as the Vulpix accepted the affection and she was more than happy to provide it with as much of it as she could until it was time for her to go home, or they left. At the praise, her smile turned a little sheepish, but she took the offered hand for a chill handshake. "Fini, Jones. Nice to meet you Fay." Popping the cereal bar into her mouth, Fini glanced at Reef, as the Corsola thoroughly enjoyed that cheek rubbing and made sure Fay knew that, by emitting happy cries here and there. [break][break]

"That's Reef." She added as she gulped a piece of the bar, sitting down on the sand as her breath was finally settling back to normal patterns. "The waves here are not as good as back in Alola, but they are decent enough to make bringing my surfing board over to Hoenn worth it. But if you thought me laying on Azul's back was cool, wait until I actually surf." As if on cue, Azul broke through the water, coming as close to the beach as he could without having sand end up in his mouth. "Isn't that right buddy?" She called out to the pokemon and Azul seemed to agree.[break][break]

"What about you Fay? Ever tried surfing?" She asked as she took another bite from her bar.[break][break]

Fay would small slightly at Fini’s introduction. The first impression was good, fini seemed to be nice and the way she surfed was cool to witness - though Fay didn’t like to admit it. It was rather interesting how the corsola was happy to receive affection - baffling. While Fay’s own Pokémon were happy to get attention they weren’t really affectionate. Attention turning back to her own vulpix it was unusual to see how Shadow was friendly with fini. “Oh.. well, i’ve figured that it would be the case. ” It was her only comment as she looked to watch the mantine break away from the waves, almost looking like the Pokémon had been flying as it did so.

Fay gave a head shake at the question. Having been born in Johto there was limited chances for her to visit a beach. “I haven’t, in fact I don’t really know how to swim..” She sighed in slight annoyance, there was a yearning to learn. Fay’s gaze traveled back to Fini, an idea came to mind. “can you show me the basics?”

“Oh.. well, i’ve figured that it would be the case." Fini hummed in response. “I haven’t, in fact I don’t really know how to swim..." She had to look incredulously at Fay. She didn't know what she would do if she was unable to swim or be around the sea like Fay was. "...can you show me the basics?” At that Fini's incredulous expression turned into a grin. "Of course I can!" She exclaimed and popped the last bit of her cereal bar in her mouth. Carelessly tossing the wrapping in her bag, she got up and wiped the sand from her hands. "Can't stand idly by when someone cannot enjoy the water as much as I do!" [break][break]

"Now, you might see a random Tirtouga showing up from nowhere. That's Koa, no need to be scared of him. He is one of my buddies as well." She warned, making her way towards the sea again, looking back at Fay expectantly.[break][break]

“um, alright.” she’d reply with uncertainty, Fay had been slightly surprised that Fini was so willing to teach her, she had been expecting to be told off or laughed at. It made her slightly happy that Fini did want to teach her, but Fay did her best to conceal the emotion. Fay didn't express much care when she was told that a pokemon may show up suddenly, she just nodded to show that she'd understand and not to be surprised when or if Koa would show up.

Following slowly after Fini towards the waters edge, she realized that this was the first time she was this close to the water.. Blinking as the waves gently submerged her toes Fay glanced back at Fini “so.. what’s first?” Fay knowing well that she must of looked like an idiot, after all what kind of person didn’t know how to swim?

Fini had that weird look of dorky determination on her face again. It usually made its appearance when Fini was serious about her passions. People knew she meant business but it was really hard to be intimidated by it at the same time. Unlike Fay, she had walked all the way till the water was to her knees. She wasn't that far away from Fay though. The beach had a fairly decent slope. "Okay so first things first. You have to get used to the water temperature. Usually, when you feel cold you just swim really fast for a distance and you warm up just like that, but in your case, we need to take things slow." She said as she turned to look at Fay once more.

"We are not going too deep today. Just walk up till the water reaches your chest. I'll show you how to float and backstroke first." Those were the easiest things to do. Especially in case Fay grew tired in the water fast. Riff was already semi-floating next to Fini and Azul was watching with interest. It had been a while since any of them had been around a novice swimmer.

Fay looked on as Fini casually just walked into chest deep water. Fay couldn’t help but feel intimidated, not only did she not wear a proper swimming suit but she also didn’t have a life jacket. She was the type of person to not even step into a swimming pool; and to Fay the ocean and a swimming pool were two completely different things. She tried to reassure herself that she was with an experienced swimmer, that it’d be fine and there wasn’t anything to worry about.

She sighed softly beginning to step into the water and slowly treading after Fini. As she said previously the water was cold, it made her shiver a little and want to go back on shore but she she stuck it out. As for her clothes.. Well Fay figured that they’d dry up quickly since it was so sunny out, it’d be annoying but it couldn’t be helped.

Due to the shifting waves Fay stumbled a little as she approached Fini and her pokemon, she soon reached chest level water and smiled, thinking that it wasn’t so difficult. Fay lightly smiled glancing back towards Fini who briefly mentioned that she’d be floating and doing some breast strokes. “That doesn’t sound to difficult.”
