“I have no idea!” Lars shouted back, having dumped off a random amount of the weird balls into the hole and flying away—not paying attention to the score anymore as he went back for more—

Blue, blue, red—huh, why was there a yellow one among the balls he gathered—

Shrugging, he went back and dumped the next load of balls before the gate suddenly opened and he realized—

Holy shit.

“See you!” he shouted as the Winged Mirage flew through the gate into the unknown—

The last obstacle that lay in wait was a battering ram of aerial cannons shooting off their artillery like swinging punching bags.

It was either get hit or get rekt.

“Shit.”

Lars then bit his lower lip before flattening himself again and the deity then flew into the battering ram of aerial projectiles being fired from the left and right.

Such an honor to meet such a famous man!

That was unfortunate for Doug! Weaving his baton furiously one last time, the youth was quick to try and follow behind Lars after unexpectedly losing the lead, dumping the balls into the hole with a measure of clear nervousness before the gate swung open for him once again,
And what awaited them was-!

"These people are trying to kill us." The youth muttered as little Eggward gawked, both of their eyes wide.

Still, Lars had the lead on them, which meant only one thing-

"Balls to the wall, sink or swim, WHATEVER OTHER SAYING!" Doug said as he flattened atop Eggward. "No dodging, Eggy! Just Pure, EXTREME SPEED!"

The Togekiss suckled in a breath before launching forth in a straight line as the world slowed down, performing an aileron roll the entire time as Doug held onto for dear life!

Eggward used Extreme Speed!

The noise of all the battering-fire artillery was deafening, and he had to steel himself as the Winged Mirage attempted to navigate through the barrage that was coming in from all sides—

And then a blur shot forward.

“Oh, crap!” he hissed, breaking concentration for a few moments. “Catch up to them, now! That was an Extreme Speed—”

He then felt the deity’s body lighten before a sudden burst of Agility tried to catch up to them—

Would they be able to make it through, though? With how fast the Extreme Speed was—

Such an honor to meet such a famous man!

The photo finish that came was tense.

Even with Extreme Speed, it was scarily close to the youth. The legendary bird's last burst of agility came as the Extreme Speed's boost died down, and for a second, Doug thought it pass them-

But the finish line came first.

By hair's breadth, Eggward had managed to keep his lead on Articuno. ~~Super~~ Luck had been on their side for once.

"You did it, Eggy!" Doug cried out as he hugged his Togekiss hard; the nerves had been almost too much for him and poor Eggward. Managing to pull themselves together, the duo approached Laurence Anderson and Articuno, the Togekiss remaining behind his trainer shyly as he offered his hand to the Head Ranger.

"Thank you for the race, Mr. Anderson." The youth said with a relieved smile, before laughing. "No offense, but we're never doing that again."

Not only had they almost died, but he doubted they could pull a second win again. Surprise Extreme Speed could only work once.

It was too close to call, however when the results came in—

Dang.

So close!

Strangely the deity had gone silent. Maybe the Winged Mirage was taking it a bit too hard that they came so close only to have the victory taken from them?

“Those pillows. Never. Again,” he muttered, shaking his head to clear out the disturbing mental images that were forming in his mind as he shook the young man’s hand.

“Honestly, that second part of the race gave me the most trouble.”
