Siobhan's heels would click as she walked toward the building. the leader was a longstanding Gym Leader and active member of the League, so she had to be careful. this was not Rocket territory. she prepared her official identification showing her as a working member of the Galarian Embassy in case he asked.

entering the location, she'd glance around once and then proceed to sign in. she was in line for this, having pre-registered a few weeks prior. "Siobhan Burke to see Alexei Ivanov" she says quietly to the counter. the person behind it would double check if she had an appointment.

Today’s receptionist was Claire, looking up from the paperwork that she was squaring away.

“Let me call him. Please wait a bit,” she said, gesturing towards the furnished waiting area.

‘One of your challengers is here,’ she said over the earpiece, and heard some swearing in the background before laughing softly. ‘They’re showing up earlier and earlier, you know. And what do you know, this one’s working for that embassy your friend’s at.’

Less than five minutes passed and one of the other doors opened, revealing a hobbling man who still leaned on the crutch in order to get around.

“Thanks, Claire,” he said as he hobbled past the reception desk to approach where she was waiting.

“Miss Siobhan, right? You’re familiar with Remiel?” he inquired once he was close enough.

she stood straighter when the Gym Leader appeared before her. Siobhan casually glanced over Alexei, finding nothing outwardly outstanding about him - but knowing he was the longest running and experienced leader. she should not underestimate him. she walks a bit forward, extending her hand to him.

Remiel's name comes up, and she does not even blink. "yes, I work under Mister Calcifet at the Embassy" Siobhan responds "I am here in Hoenn as his assistant, and he is my mentor." teacher, mentor... whatever. it was the same in the end. he was here to assist her in navigating Hoenn. something she was near completion of herself.

Nodding her way, he waved his right hand at her.

“Traditional battle, right? You don’t have non-traditional style matches back in Galar, do you?” he inquired as he led the way to the door that led to the outside arena before opening it and allowing her to exit first.

The outside was just as impressive—if not more so—than the front building.

Once she had followed outside, he pointed with his left hand.

“Hospital facilities and aviaries are down that way—over where we’re headed is the outdoor arena. As you can see—no stands or anything fancy. Just the paint lines on the ground. The main battleground is up there,” he gestured, before a sudden swarm of shadows began congregating.

Some alighted on the perches; while others landed on the perimeter fence to watch what was about to go down.

Looking up, he saw his Togekiss fly forward first.

“You get the first move,” he said as he crossed the area (with some difficulty) and stood on the other side of the outdoor arena.

she would follow as directed. her smile was thin. "no, we are quite traditional folk" Siobhan confirms for him "our matches exist in stadiums, one on one with a challenger." and even Dynamaxing was 'traditional' to the region. they did not count it as unique in Galar.

Alexei would give her a small tour, and she would glance around with approval. a hospital, an aviary. a duality but also more than two. it was a gym - but perhaps not first. a Togekiss would come to meet her. "Poe" she calls out her Corviknight, the raven making a black shadow in the sky. the Gym Leader proclaims she got the first move.

"Steel Wing" she says to the raven, who shoots forward. his wings glisten in the sky, aiming the sharpened edges at the Togekiss.

At the sight of the Corviknight, he was reminded of the one he had—albeit in its smaller form—before opening right off the bat with a Steel Wing attack.

Time to test out what he’d picked up from the past few—days—he’d spent battling down at the Slateport Beach.

Nothing better than placing the lessons into practice now, was it?!

“Incoming, Nat!” he called, before the Togekiss conjured up a blast of rocks and sent them flying towards the Corviknight—an Ancient Power attack!

"Iron Defense!" Siobhan calls out to her partner. the Steel Wing was still charged, ready to slice, but the Corviknight gave a caw of understanding. his body gleamed, the whole thing this time - and he attempted to weave through the Ancient Power.

if hit, the raven would lessen the super effective move using his raised Defense. the outside of his body was coated in iron, stronger than rock - but no less dangerous. flecks of the pebble residue caused Poe to squint as he still charged on, attempting to get to the Togekiss through the rubble. he would not die trying, but he'd faint trying.

Steel-type attacks was something that would be rather dangerous to a Togekiss if it landed—considering what the weaknesses of the Fairy-type were.

For a few seconds he recognizes the sheen of feathers only getting even shinier than they were earlier—an Iron Defense to stave off most of the damage.

It was time to play Wheel of Fortune, apparently.

“Wiggle!” was the only thing he would call out next—and the Togekiss understood what it meant. For a few moments, it was like the dual-type on his side of the field was just bobbing up and down—but in reality, it was already a Metronome attack.

A few moments later a sudden burst of Heat Wave came erupting from the Togekiss’s maw.

Wiggle was the command from Alexei. Siobhan inwardly chuckled at the display, but kept her stone-face on visibly. a fierce fire would escape the Togekiss. this was nothing to scoff at. Poe continued on, trying to dodge the fire with some expert avian displays.

he was attempting to get close enough to use his Steel Wing on the Togekiss. the flames licked at his body, burning him. he grit his beak against the pain, soaring through the fire. once close enough, it was a gambit. he aims at the Togekiss, flapping one giant wing in hopes of doing damage back to the other bird.

she knows Poe is made of tough stuff, so does not call out a command. she only clutches at her concern inwardly.

Okay, maybe that last command was a bit stupid, but it was the only way he was certain that his Togekiss was going to understand!

Although… the Corviknight was one hell of a tenacious avian.

One of the wings then came in contact with the Togekiss, who let out a squeal of surprise (and pain) upon contact, however she puffed up her cheeks, just to show she wasn’t going to go down that easily!

At close range, could she miss?

Another Ancient Power came soaring towards the Corviknight—although her flight altitude was lowering. Somewhat.

the Corviknight was the first Pokemon she ever received. found as a Rookidee in the depths of the woods, she had nursed him back to health. their bond was excellent, which is why she had sent him out first. Siobhan knew Poe would not disappoint her. she knew he would prevail.

the Steel Wing would hit, and yes, they were now close to each other. the Togekiss was slowing though, and so was Poe. but he refused to let it show; his wings beat strongly and there was a gleam in his eye. "Drill Peck!" she calls out as the Ancient Power hit the raven. he flapped wildly against the rock attack before diving.

it did hit him, but it would take more than that to down the avian. he shrieks in respond to the pain before shooting his head forward, body following. his beak shines with light as it aims at the Togekiss.

“Back!” he called, as the Togekiss got hit with the incoming attack. Crap, this was looking to be a little one-sided—

But the Togekiss was going to prevail, she wasn’t going to give up! A sudden burst of light from her entire body—a Dazzling Gleam—shook the immediate area.

Going off like a flash-bang grenade, Alexei shielded his eyes from the sudden force of the attack, and wondered if she was able to hit the Corviknight at close range—

A sudden shadow streaking out of the flash of fae-light indicated that someone had come off worse, and it was his Togekiss.

“Shit,” he hissed, recalling the Togekiss so he could care for her later. He was about to send out another—when a shadow came from the skies, roaring at the challenge—

It was his Charizard, Ravana.

“Uh oh,” was all he had time to say before the Charizard took her position on his side of the field, maw already encircled with flames, ready to strike.

one down. Alexei's Togekiss would faint from a hard fought battle, but taking it's place was a mighty Charizard. Poe was, for all his hard work, slowing down. even if he didn't reveal it, she knew it. "Brave Bird." Siobhan's one final request was this.

do as much damage as possible in the final gambit, and then recoil from the effort. there was no switching out for them. they would meet the Charizard and Alexei head on. Poe's body was engulfed in harsh shining light before he shot toward the Charizard with the intention to make a sizable dent in it's scaly hide.

That was the only word he would say, and the Charizard saw the incoming threat from the opposite side of the field.

Cranking up the heat as high as she could possibly muster, a powerful—yet concentrated—stream of flames came bursting out of the dual-type’s maw; a strong Flamethrower attack.

Since the target was flying right at them, it wouldn’t be too hard to miss, as Alexei knew the familiar machinations of Brave Bird—owning quite a few from his armada that knew this particular technique.

It was a risky move.
