Lars did say he was going to be back.

And here he was.

Who knew how quickly the strong-arm machine was replaced? Apparently in less than a day!

Just where were the surplus of these machines coming from?! Either way…

He was ready, this time.

However, even the machine itself had gotten a face-lift.

The beginnings of a crowd were gathering as he took a look at the new rules and hissed slightly. Well, then.

Whoever had shipped the replacement machine was smart, adding several booby traps into the damned thing.

Now—who was he going to be going up against…

Strong-arm Redux! Throw your strongest / best attack at the machine v 2.0 and roll!

1 – 24: Pokémon gets a random status effect AND knocked out
25 – 50: Pokémon gets a random status effect
51 – 75: git gud
76 – 99: meh
100: are you for real, bruh?

Highest roll total at the end wins!

"Hey Lars," Bill said, standing next to his son. He had sunglasses nestled in his perfect hair, and was licking a salted caramel ice cream. "Shall we give it a go?" he asked, eyeing the rules of the machine. It seemed simple enough.

He sent out Milotic. The creature's stained glass tail raised and curled around the lever of the machine, obscuring the mechanism in a twisted ball of fin and flesh. Milotic strained, putting the force of her serpentine form into the machine, bending it as hard as she could.

It didn’t take him too long to look to one side at the sound of that voice.

‘You’re going to pop a vein.’

‘Good you know!’ he snarked back, before taking the biggest bite out of the Blue Hawaiian snow cone he was eating at that moment.

“I’ll let you know now, the previous version of this machine is fucking rigged. Nobody’s gotten a perfect score on it yet. It’s absolutely shitty.”

After the Milotic had its turn, a red beam of light from his direction revealed a Meganium, who looked around at the area, confused at all the noise.

“Moria. Solar Beam that thing.”

Without warning the Grass-type let out a cry of alarm, but proceeded to charge up the energy needed—before a powerful burst of solar energy shot out from her mouth right at the machine.

“It says ‘hit the damned thing with your best shot’, so that’s what I’m doing.”

Milotic was paralyzed
milotic fainted

The machine struck back, slamming into Milotic with an electronic punch that crackled with excess voltage. The serpent fell to the ground, paralyzed and unconscious.

"Just because a game is rigged, doesn't mean you can't win," Bill said. It was a good advice, but without his previous collection of powerful Pokemon it would be difficult to overpower this carnival game. Instead, Bill sent out Binacle.

The dual hands of the sea critter found the lever, wrestling against the machine.

“What the hell is that,” were the first words he said when he saw the Binacle grab the machine and—get away with it.

Unfortunately it returned a resounding ‘meh’ in the old man’s direction.

“See? Told you.”

Recalling the Meganium, he then flicked a random Pokéball forward—and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets when he saw which one he’d summoned—it was the Kanto Ninetales.

Who had a… name that should never be mentioned.

“Chuck it around.”

The lupine Pokémon then squinted at the machine, before letting loose a blast of Extrasensory energy.

Beheeyeem used Confuson

"That's more like it Lars!" Bill said, smiling as the machine came tantalizingly close to tipping over into the winning bracket.

Next Bill tried his Beheeyeem. The Pokemon looked sideways at the machine in Confusion, twisting it with his alien mind.

The way the ‘git gud’ flashed when the Beheeyem tried to whack at the machine made him smirk for a few moments before the last of the snow cone disappeared.

“Well then,” was all he said once the Ninetales had done her job. Returned in a flash of red light, another Pokémon hit the sand and his eyebrows went up slightly at the sight.

“Gula. Tip it over.”

The Emboar then punched his fists eagerly, raring to strike and rushed the machine with a Heavy Slam attack.

Honedge used sacred sword

Bill wished he had his old Pokemon. His work Pokemon. Aerodactyl, Feraligatr, Lapras. Pokemon that could take a hit right to the throat and then hit back with enough force to crush bones. Instead, he sent out Honedge.

The saber was a good start. It had half of what Bill was looking for. The weapon was all offence, with No Guard to be found on the weapon. At Bill's command it swung at the target with a Sacred Sword.

"How have you been going in the tournament?" Bill asked. It was the polite thing to do, even though he knew the score already. He'd watched all of Lars' matches.

His eyebrows quirked together at the sight of the Honedge, for he also had one himself. Although Caliburn’s training had taken a back seat until quite recently.

“Eh, so-so,” he answered as he was offered a red-colored snow cone, that turned out to be the Candied Apple favor. “You win some, you lose some.”

The Emboar was recalled after the ‘git gud’ flashed on the screen, and he rolled his eyes at the machine.

“Seriously, this machine is really fucking picky.”

Not looking, he threw out another containment unit and blinked as Arthur unfolded from the depths, the Feraligatr roaring and scaring off some of the on-lookers.

“Art, calm down. Wreck it.”

The Water-type then released a powerful blast of water—a Hydro Pump aimed at the machine.

Geez, what the hell was this thing made of, to withstand so many powerful attacks?!

Honedge got obliterated
binacle is back for round 2!

The machine's recoil was swift, and brutal. It collided with Honedge, bending the steel right at the tang and sending the Pokemon clattering across the street. "You seem to be winning quite a few," Bill said, his voice laced with pride. "I'd expect nothing less though. You come from great battling stock."

Bill went to get another Pokemon, but Binacle clonked forwards. The little creature was up for round two!

Another ‘git gud’ was returned his way.

“Most of those wins were sheer dumb luck, honestly,” he remarked as he recalled the Feraligatir and tossed another containment unit forward.

The Froslass unfurling herself from the red beam of light surprised him, but he shook it off afterward.

“…you know Claude’s around somewhere, right?” he asked idly, taking another bite as the Froslass unleashed a Shadow Ball at the machine.

Binacle was paralyzed
binacle went again!

The machine slapped back, again, but Binacle took it on the chin. Both of them. Paralyzed, but still full of fighting sprit, the twin hands grabbed at the lever.

Again.

Bill looked on, surprised. What was driving this little creature to such heights? Was it doing it for him?

He wondered why the other hadn’t reacted at that…

Either way, the Froslass floated back before suddenly collapsing in a deep sleep.

“Oh, I hate this machine!” he hissed as he recalled the slumbering Froslass and sent out—a relatively new Pokémon. The Cinderace unfurled in a beam of red light before looking at him.

“Hit it with your best shot.”

Of course, that meant using Electro Ball, and the entire Fire-type’s body crackled with energy as it found a pebble, kicked it up and promptly yeeted it at the machine.

binacle went again!Again!

"In the tournament?" Bill asked, just registering what Lars had said. "I didn't know he was a battler. Yeah I've met up with him. I mentioned it last time, remember?"

Meanwhile, the heroic Binacle went in for another round against the machine. He grasped the level, by now more than familiar with its intricacies and torque. With a twist and a heave, he cranked it a forth time!

The Cinderace’s face crumpled at the sight of the ‘git gud’ on the screen, and was about to charge the machine again when a red beam of land caught it before it could charge again.

“No, not in the tournament, just—around Hoenn,” he clarified. “Worse drunk that I am. Not that I get drunk though.”

However, there was—something—that was really pissing him off about the machine.

‘Oh no. No, no, not again!’

‘Look, I know you want revenge on the damned thing!’ he sassed back, before getting a grumble and then a sigh.

It was like Lars was punching something—in midair.

The temperature change would come slowly, and then all at once as everyone gathered started shivering. Why had it gotten so cold?!

A few moments later, the cold wind spread—centered around the machine as the End of the World came once again.
