"Hey... Don't I know ya from somewhere?" Doug's voice suddenly cut through the hustle and bustle of the crowd as he approached another young man, head tilted slightly.

Yes, Doug was certain he had seen him before, but just couldn't quite put his tongue on it... It made him think of ...

Ah!

"Ah! Ya were there at the Church with all of the plate holders!" He said, bringing his fist atop his palm in realization, before grinning broadly and trying to get a hi-five out of the young man! "'Eeey, Plate Club!"

He reached over to move his sunglasses atop his head.

"We didn't really get to know each other then, so! Name's Doug! Pleasure to meet'cha, friendo!"

priam scratches his head when doug points it out. he did seem familiar, but he couldn't pinpoint where before he points it out for both of them.

"oh, yeah! plate club!" he hive fives back.

he remembers his memory of it fondly, being in the discussion while simultaneously not getting anything that people had talked about. he vaguely remembers infighting alongside him playing on his phone for a chunk of the meeting.

"you can call me conrad! just imagine the best person to exist and you already know what there is to know about me!" he huffs his chest, proud. "i also like long evening walks by the sea, plant keeping, spelunking, and a bunch more."

Doug laughed as Priam gave him the full expo.

"Ya sound like a keeper, Conrad!" He said with a grin, his palm still stinging with the awesome feel of a good high five as he reached up to tip his hat- no, wait, no hat today, just a vinnie. He pulled onto his vinnie as he spoke. "I'm surprised I haven't seen ya around more often since then! Yer 'ere for the tourney, yeah? Battling, spectating, or a lil' of both?"

"yeah, i've been kinda for the earlier days," he tells doug in a deflated tone. of course, it doesn't last and is quickly replaced with a more optimistic voice. "but i'm here now!"

he rummages his collection of pokeball and brings out a pokeball and shows it to him.

"of course i'm here to battle! you down? just a quick one v one to get me back to the groove."

Anything to cheer up a new buddy!

"Sure thing, pal!" Doug said, before he fished into his pockets, producing a singularly shiny, colorful badge. "Say, win or do well enough, and I'll give you this badge! How about it?"

It was an offer he made to most of his opponents really, though only a few had gotten his prized badge so far. Fishing his own pokeball, the thought observed his opponent's choice, before choosing the good ol' and reliable.

"Gooo, Kama!" The youth said cheerfully as he threw his net ball, releasing his Scyther into the field. She could handle anything, as far as Doug was concerned!

"ooh! now you're tempting me to tryhard!"

priam wasn't much of a badge collector, preferring to stay on the downlow and outside of everyone else's radars, but since most gym leaders give out badges during this event, he figured why not.

"go ferrothorn!" he shouts enthusiastically as he lobs a pokeball, revealing the said pokemon.

the pokemon lands with a thud and starts to ingrain itself to the ground. it anchors itself to a spot, but it's not like a ferrothorn can move around anyways.

"Hey man, that's the point!" Doug said as he saw the Ferrothorn appear, grinning. "Gotta earn this shiny little thing!"

His Scyther snorted as she stared at her new opponent, lowering her stance and spreading her arms as her eyes narrowed. She hated these things- hitting them directly was always painful!

With a growl, she swung her arms at the air, a suckling sound echoing in the air as vacuum wave was launched at the pokemon!

Scyther used a Technician-boosted Vacuum-Wave!

vacuum wave... vacuum wave...

his own scyther has that move and he attempts to recall if iron defense would work against it. it takes him a while to decide that it doesn't and goes for the next thing.

"power whip!"

vines sprout out from the earth and start trying to whip the scyther closer to the ferrothorn.

Doug is normally rather vocal and active during his battles- but not when Kama was involved.

The Scyther was rather independent, and her battle instincts were a step above most; it rarely required the youth's assistance. Even before the youth was thinking about it, the Scyther was weaving her arms through the air violently in a strangely beautiful display, leaping off one foot whilst spinning about, scythes cleaving through the many vines attempting to entrap her.

he stares at the scyther. the swords dance was familiar with other pokemon, but since his scyther doesn't have that move, priam second guesses.

since it's not directly attacking, priam decides to be the aggressor.

"fire the mirror shots!"

still anchored in its spot, it shoots metal bursts towards the bug-type, trying to use the vines that sprouted from the ground as distraction for it.

"Heads up!" Shouts Doug, drawing an irritated growl out of the Scyther middance.

Might have been a good idea to listen, she would reluctantly admit later.

The mirror shot nailed her in the chest, chitin plating denting as she was sent hurtling back, snarling with untold amounts of indignation before her wings flapped strongly, serving to correct her posture.

Landing on her feet, she slid over the floors to a halt, before pushing forward with fury, attempting to close the distance between itself and the Ferrothorn with glowing, neon green blades surrounding her scythes!

Scyther used Fury Cutter!

"we got this! iron defense!"

the ferrothorn raises its defenses, relying on iron barbs to deal damage back. priam's smile was evident until he sees that his ferrothorn wasn't getting any healthier.

"wait, what happened to your ingrain?"

he can only mouth 'oh no' when he remembers that the sand around slateport beach wasn't giving as much nutrients back to the ferrothorn as any other soil on hoenn.

his pokemon was racking up too many pot shots at this point with very little way of recovering from it.

An oversight that might very have costed poor Priam the match- though luckily, not the badge!

Kama reeled back as her the iron barbs stuck to her arms, snarling angrily and spreading her wings to retreat far back. Huffing and puffing angrily, she decided that enough was enough.

A massive surge of energy followed, jolting her own trainer as he glanced down at his wrist, his Z-bracelet coming alight!

"Oi, that's excessive, ya brute!" Shouted Doug at his pokemon as she focused all of the Z-energy into her bladed arm- before releasing at her opponent, thankfully in the form of a concussive wave, rather than a cutter.

The heaven splitter went to blast against the Ferrothorn and blew away every single cloud in the sky in the process.

Scyther used Z-Move: Heaven Cleaver!

the ferrothorn tries to hold on with its iron defense, but it's stationary and now chipped away by the various fury cutters that transpired.

unfortunately, the final blow is nothing that he can protect against.

priam stares in awe as he watches the scyther perform a z-move against his ferrothorn. the dual-type can only look stare against the move until it is sent to the shadow realm.



"oh, wow. there's definitely nothing my ferrothorn can do against that!" priam concludes as he recalls the grass-type back to its ball. "good match, doug! good to see someone preferring scyther over scizor too."

Doug jogged ahead to check over Priam's Ferrothorn as the blast came to an end, sighing in relief as he saw the pokemon wasn't seriously hurt, his hand flying to his chest.

"Oh, thank lords..." He muttered, before wordlessly returning an unrepentant Scyther back to her net ball. He would give her a stern talking to (that she would most certainly ignore) later.

His attention turned back to Priam as the other youth spoke, drawing a grin out of him.

"She's been with me for forever now- can't imagine her lookin' any different." He said with a chuckle shaking his head. He did have a Scizor though... More often than not, Kama ended up being his go to pokemon, however. "Ya have a Scyther of yer own too, then? Good taste, my dude. Good taste."

Without a second thought, the youth produced a badge from his sleeve, and held it out towards Priam.

"Awright then, Priam! Kama got a bit outta hand back there, but I liked what I saw plenty!" Doug said. "I ain't got any qualms with giving ya the Honor Badge as Mauville City's Gym Leader!"
