he disagrees — preparing dinner and dessert for her is the least he could do. he wants her to have nice things, after all, and to feel special.

and to think that it's only their first date.

Willa smiles and takes the utensil, taking a small scoop of the dessert. Her eyes widen a bit as she lets it settle on her tongue before swallowing it. She smiles brightly.

"It’s delicious, Rory. Truly." She takes another scoop. The quiet calm of the breeze coming up on the balcony, and the serene feeling even without the music makes her melt a little bit.

It’s perfect.

rory watches her in anticipation as she takes her first bite. he's not nervous, but slightly anxious in a way he can't quite describe. maybe it's because he wants her to like his cooking.

relief comes soon after, along with a smile as he takes a scoop for himself.

"i'm glad."

"So, just to let you know." Willa starts, licking her lips as she thinks of how to word this. "I'm not ready to... Mmmm... spend the night. I hope that's alright. I'm a bit old-fashioned." She laughs softly. "When it comes to sleepovers, at least."

Willa smiles as he agrees pleasantly to her terms, tilting her head as she takes half of what's left of the dessert, scooping it into her mouth.

"I agree. It's been a lovely time." She says after swallowing, licking some of the custard from her lips. "If we were to have a sleepover, though... I'd prefer it be at my place. I don't like to leave Wyatt alone overnight if he's home and not at a friend's house." Because teenagers with an awesome empty house spelled disaster, to her. Not that she didn't trust her son, just just knew teenagers; she was one once. That's how she wound up with Wyatt in the first place.

At his question, Willa smirks, raising an eyebrow.

"If you want to. It does add a certain sense of danger, doesn't it?" She laughs, thinking about it. She's had men stay over who have snuck out - it was sort of exciting, actually.

"But I don't think I'll grade you on your ability to crawl down my trellis." She grins at him.

that's not entirely true. he'd definitely be able to crawl up and down without much of an issue. it's staying quiet that is the problem here.

"Good, I always feel bad when Wyatt gets up to cook." She laughs softly. Wyatt had learned from an early age that his mother's cooking was terrible. Usually the house keeper would cook for him while his mother was away, but he actually got quite good at it on his own, too.

"I love french toast." She prompts, raising her eyebrows. "Or mankey bread."
