Elodie had heard from among the other cadets that there was an illegal fighting ring located in slateport city. She couldn’t say she was surprised to find this out, but it immediately piqued her interest in the worst way. Elodie was a strong believer that pokemon resembled people much more than everyone was willing to admit, and therefore they should not be treated like slaves. She couldn’t help but wonder how many of those pokemon were willingly fighting alongside a trainer and how many were being held against their will.

Later that night Elodie put her name on the fighting list. The aura of the area when Elodie walked in was… intimidating but buzzing with life. The chill and rush of excitement she felt made her stomach turn in discontent. She wasn’t here for the sick thrill, she wanted to see herself, firsthand, what was going on in the underground.

It wasn’t her turn to fight yet, but there was a current one going on. The fight that was pursued in the caged area was not the kind that someone would find in a gym. It was primal, animalistic, and not for the faint of heart. While two pokemon were boring holes into their opponent’s flesh and attempting mutilation; the people were going crazy. If Elodie closed her eyes she swore she might have been at a sporting event.

Finding an open seat she sat herself down. Glancing to her right she saw a black-haired man and offered him a half-smile. She looked at her sneakers for a moment and then decided to make her time more interesting. “Do you know what number fight this is?” Elodie spoke over the roar of people to the man next to her. “I was in the bathroom for a while,” All she knew was she was to be fight number eight, her opponent’s name started with a ‘D’ but that was all she knew.

[attr="class","danny"]where better to train than in an underground ring where there are absolutely no rules? well, there are some rules, but even then, they aren't that well regulated.

for example: fight number seven. one of the pokemon targets the opposing trainer instead of their pokemon, which clearly breaks the number one rule.

but of course, no one says anything.

caught off guard, danny turns to the person next to him.

"oh! sorry. i think it's...seven."

it's definitely seven because he's number eight.

"i'm a little nervous since i'm going next."

“I’d be nervous too if I was going soon! I bet you’ll do great, are you ruthless, eyepicking?” Elodie hid her sudden wave of nerves by acting interested and amused. How lucky she had been to pick the seat next to her opponet. She was hoping for a woman, but she shouldn't be wavered by gender. “Have you been in these fights before?” She asked next, watching the people across the way jumping up and down in their seats like their seats were on fire.

The trainer fighting inside had to dodge and weave against the pokemon. Elodie was holding onto a thin string of logic that this fight is good for at least training and tolerance. If she couldn’t stomach things like this, how was she going to do the big things that were soaked in decades of the most horrid things? And whatever her pokemon were to take would only make them better in the end.

On Elodie’s hip was a small brown pouch that held her two partners. She gentle grazed her fingers over the button holding it shut; lost in her thoughts.

As this man kept talking the more relieved Elodie felt. This man seemed extroverted and friendly and didn’t have that bloodthirst craze some did.

Elodie felt her ears heat up when he bluntly asked her if she too would be in the fighting ring. “Yeah, it’ll be my first fight,” She admitted. She wouldn’t spill that she was his opponent unless he asked enough to figure it out himself. She now really wanted to see his expression when he saw her out there.

“Do you have any fun stories you’re willing to share?” Not like being in that ring could be any fun.

is it odd for him to beam in excitement at the prospect of a pretty violent fight?

"oooh, i think on my second fight i got cut up pretty bad. i faced a kabutops and they just went for me instead; cut me right across my side."

Elodie winced at the thought of a kabutops’ scythe forearms wheezing past as she was made to dodge for the entertainment of a crowd. It must have given some trainers the boost of adrenaline they craved. This side of the pokemon world made human eradication a possible solution in Elodie’s mind.

“This might be a one-and-done experience,” Elodie said, scratching the back of her neck and reminding herself she needed to trim her extra hairs later. “I’m surprised you went back in, I’d like to come out in one chunk, and really how far can your luck take you,” She sighed.

The ongoing battle was slowing down, the one trainer forced to fight a pokemon was starting to falter. Elodie guessed he wouldn’t have much time left as the pokemon wasn’t giving much space or mercy.

Elodie snickered when the guy offered to stay after and watch her in her battle. She felt a little bad for keeping their pairing a secret.

“Well, what if you don’t make it out this time?” She said teasingly. “I’m the one right after you, but I might have to cheer for your opponent to make it interesting,” She wanted to see his reaction when she walked into the fighting space with him.

While the two were talking the fighting was coming to a close. The pokemon had successfully taken down the trainer when Elodie’s eyes turned back to the action. Her stomach squirmed at the pool of blood that was oozing from the down trainer. She had to dig her nails into the chair she was sitting in to not say or do anything.

Trainer one was dragged out while the winner gloated and absorbed the absolute madness that was the crowd. Elodie’s blood drowned most of the roaring out, but the vibrating in her feet wasn’t something she could space out. Straightening her mind quickly she forced composure and smiled.

“Go on, time for you to get ready,” Eloide purred. “You’ll see me soon!”

“Good luck!” Elodie called out as he walked away, offering an encouraging smile until he left her view. Once he left she quickly bounced up and made her way to the dressing rooms before they were called out. Locking herself inside a stall she gets to work; speedily she wrapped her knuckles, knees, and even wrapping some of her left side shoulder in compressions. Next, she pulled off her top and began to bind her chest. All that remained were a pair of black gym shorts, two pokeballs on a belt, and her body littered with wraps.

Stepping out she looked at herself in the mirror and nodded contently at her appearance. She could feel the blood flowing through her ears as she did a fix of her short hair. Then the sound for the next round starting went off and Elodie hurried out.

Elodie saw Danny entering the ring and she waited as a crowd excited for more caused the whole place to vibrate. A gentle nudge by a nearby director told her it was her turn to get in and so in she went.

Her mind swam with the wrong thoughts as she smirked widely, the tip of her tongue bit between her right canine tooth, at the nice boy she had been sitting next to a moment ago. She wanted to know his thoughts as she walked in. Whatever was being announced Elodie wasn’t sure, there was too much noise and adrenaline for her to process the announcer.

Well, she knew that was the starting bell. Pulling out the first ball she released a pidgeot. Her wings spread wide as she took flight, gusts of dust and small stones clouding around.

“Hey, don’t go easy on me, okay?” Elodie yelled, shifting her feet and hands to a fighting stance.

he blinks, confused.

"weren't we just speaking?!"

either way, his poliwrath looks ready to battle, but no orders come from danny. he's too busy trying to figure out who his opponent is.

“Don’t tell me you forgot me already!” Elodie acted offended, a hand on her chest. She looked at the Poliwrath neutrally on the outside but internally she wondered how hard the ‘gloved’ fist was. Clearing her mind she decided she would make the first move.

There was a thrill to being inside a caged area with pokemon and a whole audience screaming till the floor seemed to tremble. Elodie had a feeling that thrill would change as soon as something terrible happened, and then it would have been too late. This would be a good training session for her Pidgeot, as long as she made it.

Ever since she went from the sea to land she spent most of her free time in the academic world. She had completely neglected the side of the world that requires conflict and battling, now she felt completely behind. Her Pidgeot didn’t have a proper fighting set either, but they would do their best.

“Fisher, use Twister!” The bird flew high and began beating their wings. It started as a gentle whisper of wind, but soon between the two teams was a collection of twisting air. It went rolling towards Danny with one final push from Pidgeot. Elodie wanted to see if the Poliwrath would try to protect their trainer.
