When he looks at his phone, it somehow connects to the gps through the space-time phenomenon, telling him he's somewhere in Slateport Central Mall... But there's no way that could be right.[break][break] And yet no matter how far he runs, it's always more untamed patches of grassland, and ranging hills and valleys. Ever since he'd slipped across, nothing resembled what it should. It was as if he'd tripped back in time. For a long time, all he can think of is to run, and perhaps stumble across a breakthrough this way.[break][break]  Only after tiring himself out does he stop. When he finally sits down to rest, he notices the sun shifting in the sky. A mountain in the distance, presumably Mt. Chimney, stands taller than expected and without its volcanic plumes breaking out across the skyline. It's all more than passing strange, leaving the boy to curl up and worry.[break][break] Eventually he releases Rikki, his Zangoose, to help him scrounge enough materials for a small fire. Here he huddles for warmth, whiling away what he expects will be a short stay. It wasn't the first time he'd heard of people getting spun around in a distortion... Most of them came back, with weird side-effects that tended to resolve themselves over the course of a couple weeks. This would be no different...[break][break] While staring out into the wildlands, he sees images in the bending light of a setting sun. Shelves with merchandise, like little mirages meant to tease him. When he tries to chase through them, he fails to pass through. Eventually he stops looking altogether.[break][break] These little deceptions only make him increasingly desperate to return home.[break][break] This passes for what feels like a few days. There are bags under his eyes and streaks where the tears tend to trickle down across his cheeks. His clothes feel tight against him, and have wear marks from the unexpected run-ins with the pokemon here. Zangoose is hard-pressed to keep its usual cool, becoming sullen and reproachful.[break][break] This was not the adventure he had planned for himself, and try as he might, his spirit remained crushed as the finality of his situation settled into his conscious mind.[break][break] Somewhere in Slateport Central Mall, a little ginger boy can be seen in the reflections of the mirrors or windows throughout the complex, at unpredictable intervals.
