Her old stomping grounds?

A small chuckle tickled the back of her throat, but she retrained herself enough to keep it at bay.

"Perfect! Let me just grab my sweater then." With a small skip to her set, she set off towards the door, eyes set straight for the black sweatshirt she had hung up on the rack.

"What're you working on, by the way?" Idle chatter carried her from the rack back to the table. Her phone distracted her eyes, but her attention was still well within his grasp. "I've heard plenty of good thing"

vallen remains where he is, only moving at a snails pace after her when she all but skips to her sweater. one of his hands move to the comfort of his pocket, while the fingers of his other combs through his hair passively.

"i'm taking a break from more of my more... caustic work and looking into how creatures like ekans, and arbok, use their tongues in sensing their environment. i think it'd be interesting to replicate on humans."

he gives an apologetic smile.

"it's just a small side-project, a hobby, so to speak." by now he'd stepped closer to her, and in the process, the door out. his voice drops to reflect this, no longer echoing in the space between them, but rather becoming more personal.

"but the again, i suppose we use our tongues in interesting ways too, hm?"

"do we?" Her question rung out loud for a second, then she paused, both mentally and physically.

Did he...

Looking up, she quietly stumbled onto the hidden meaning laced between his words.

"A-ah, yeah, sure. You're right." Her eyes returned back onto the phone. As she eased into a walk, her speed increased naturally, all while the nerves of the situation pricked at her cheeks. "The, um, cab should be out ready for us in 10. Just in case your, um, curious."

"do we?" he asks in response, his own voice taking on a tone of 'i don't know, i asked you!'. it dissolves beneath his smile and her stutters, however, and he presses a reassuring hand to the small of her back as he guides them through a crowded passageway.

"a question for later then, when you're less... frazzled." as much as he wants to laugh, he holds himself back, settling on his trademark smile. as they find room once more, he moves to walk beside her once more.

"ten? what will we do until then i wonder." as if struck by a thought, he opens his mouth and turns slightly towards her. "i know. tell me more about this lionel character from before. is he nice?"

Rory nearly jumped at his touch, propelling forward at a faster speed as if to avoid prolonging his hand's stay on her back.

When he moved away, a sigh of relief blew out from her nostrils.

Unfortunately, this feeling was only shortlived, as Vallen's torturous forms of teasing wasn't finished yet.

"Lionel? Oh, he's cool. I'm working under him right now, so he's basically like my mentor? " She scratched her cheek, mulling over the hazy details she had on him. "Apparently he has, like, 10 arcanines back at home. Isn't that adorable?!"

"it would take a bunch of air fresheners," she mused, a soft giggle following close behind her thoughts.

A soft gesture of appreciation was given before she slipped into the cab, crawling all the way to the opposite side seat. Once she settled in, she'd look over at him, a small grin playing at her lips. "But I think that's a fair price to pay for something as cute as that!"

The cab took off after that, driving straight toward their destination. In the mean time, the two were left to their own devices. An awkward condrum for someone as jittery as Rory.

She'd try to open her mouth, but whenever she did, it'd close soon after, as her brain forgo whatever topic of conversation she'd thought to present.

"is it?" he queries, sliding in beside her. his attention falls on the man in the drivers seat, giving him a nearly imperceptible nod. "so you're an arcanine girl then? i never would've taken you for the type."

their conversation seems to die naturally, then, and he takes to watching the passing landmarks through the window. it was relaxing, and despite how rory felt, vallen didn't feel a trickle of awkwardness.

The air was stuffy with awkward tension. Every time she'd want to suggest a new topic of conversation, or ask an innocent question, she'd scrap away the idea, thinking it to be stupid, or embarrassing. When he eventually piped up, she'd immediately look over, a zap of excitement nipping at her toes.

"Huh?"

Her eyes widened at the suggestion.

Come...closer?

She gave the suggestion a moment to process, as a trickle of steam leaked out from her ears. Only after a minute of thinking did she make any movements, and even then, they were as slow and uncertain as humanly possible. The cushions squeaked with pressure as she inched across the leather seating, sliding down beside him.

"Like this," She murmured, questioningly, a soft blush pricking her cheeks. There was still a good chunk of space between them. Traveling even further would require something more concrete than a suggestion.

Another squeak came out, this time from her lips instead of the worn-out leather seating.

"Ah!"

The sprinkle of pink deepened into a dark crimson as it infected the rest of her face. Her eyes squeezed close at his touch, and her head automatically found itself crashing into the side of his chest. Curling her hands into fists, she pulled herself back up, straightening her back so she was at least pressed up against the seat. She could still feel the heat of his body, the thrum of her heart, and the twist of her stomach, but at least, it was better than before.

"Isn't this, uh, too close? .....I wouldn't want you to be uncomfortable."

Rory despised the cold more than anyone else, but if it were up to her, she'd still be pressed up to the opposite car door. Goosebumps pricked the top of her arms and her eyes were kept down low, staring down at her knees.

Only when he mentioned food did she look up.

"We're almost there..." The words slipped out from her chapped lips. A soft whisper compared to the confidence he displayed around her. Tight and ridged, the woman kept her back as straight as a board, careful not to let their skin touch, or let his warmth sway her into leaning closer. "Sorry I picked somewhere so far."
