'Mechanic needed in Lab 205'

The alert message blasted, in all red, across her phone screen no less than 10 minutes ago. There was a tinge of bitterness in her heart whenever someone confused herself with a mechanic -- because they were not the same things -- but she also understood the organization's current lack of actual mechanics.

So, she was stuck at their beck and call, running from lab to lab just to fix up whatever machinery broke.

"205...205...Ah, here it is." She softly murmured to herself. Hand reaching out for the door's knob, she gave it a quick twist and push, revealing both herself and her instantly recognizable scar to whoever was stationed in the room.

"Mechanic! What seems to be the prob-- Ceri...?"

Electronic music fills the small lab, upbeat and in direct contrast with its sheer lack of inhabitants.

Well, there is one.

Towards the back, clad in shorts that most definitely don’t make for “laboratory safe attire”, a petite woman faces the wall, her manicured nails tapping onto the counter before her while she looks down at a metallic box. On her lips, a pink bubble audibly pops; cherry gum, also a questionable choice.

She presses the button on the box just as she had done a dozen times in the past few minutes, and just like before, nothing happens at all. It’s not unplugged, it had been working yesterday, so what the hell is going on with the centrifuge?

Annoyed, Ceri wrinkles her nose, but this annoyance of hers is masked with a smile the moment the mechanic enters the lab, and then, when she turns to look at the newcomer, by genuine surprise:

”Oh! Rory! What are you doing here?!”

Rory Faust? With Team Rocket?

Despite her surprise, Ceri beams, taking her friend’s hands when she approaches.

Flustered, she allowed the other woman to take her hand but did nothing to show a similar sense of enthusiasm. What was she doing here? Working with a terrorist organization, no less? Her tongue went numb in her mouth as she mulled everything over.

"It's..."

Speak Rory, Speak.

"It's good to see you, too..."

She slowly retracted her hand back to her side, eyes laced with a mixture of both concern and utter confusion.

"I just recently joined," She smiled, sheepishly. Bringing her hands clasped together behind her back, she nervously balanced her weight by the balls of her heels. A bad habit of hers. "How about you? I, I didn't think I would see you around here..."

In the Venn diagram that shows the relation between the traits that are expected of members of a criminal organisation, Ceri Glynn is no more than a dot towards the farthest edge of a circle. Nothing intercepts. She’s not the norm, nor is she the stereotype. Except, of course, for one thing: she’s broke and she has a skillset that Rocket happens to consider worth investing in.

When seeing Rory Faust, the same assumption is immediately made about her.
[break][break]
There’s no one who “doesn’t belong” in Team Rocket, there’s just members that most wouldn’t expect. Or, well, that’s how Ceri happens to see it at least, but she’s also admittedly not involved in most things outside of the organisation's scientific ventures.

”Did you? Huge adjustment, right?” She laughs, easygoing and cheerful as ever. What’’s strange to Rory is the norm for her, she has been part of the crime syndicate for too long for her to act nervous or ashamed about it when within the submarine’s walls. Not like she would anywhere else either, but at least she’d be more discrete… hopefully.

”Uhmm… I was a lab assistant for a couple of years, but I recently became a full time researcher. Nice pay raise and all. Oh! Maybe you can help me with this thing. Come!”

Just like that, she walks towards the back of the lab, expecting Rory to follow. She’s already accepted the situation.
