it's not even that they're just hot; no, the humidity makes it so much worse, and it's uncomfortable, to say the least. even in cooler clothes, and her hair tied up, it's enough to make her wish for the comfort of their apartment; and the ac that would greet them when they came back.[break][break]

but a job was a job, and, heat aside, this one seemed fairly simple.[break][break]

aries wasn't a photgrapher, so it was easier to follow alongside them (or a few feet behind), making sure nothing happened to them while they took pictures of the wildlife. it was for some hoenn nature and gardening magazine, if she remembered correctly? nothing she would be interested in, anyways.[break][break]

the worst part of it, if aries had to guess, was the akward silence, because the photographer was too focused on getting the perfect shot of the wildlife and aries found she had nothing to say. even then, she found she preferred it over awkward small talk with someone she would likely never meet again.

The heat wasn’t nearly as bad as Lethe had been anticipating. When they’d initially taken the job, they had been somewhat concerned about the long, hot day that it was sure to fall on, but now that it was here it seemed like nothing.

They lean peacefully up against a tree waiting for the photographer they were meant to accompany to arrive. Used to summer jobs, they’d made sure to take a cooler water bottle and sip from it as they waited.

Soon enough, they see one approaching. They’re not alone, however; behind them follows a blue-haired, grumpy-looking person. They don’t look pleased to be there, and Lethe can’t help but huff a little amusedly at the sight. Summer isn’t for everyone, they guess, and this was evidently one such person. They look too tough to be annoyed by a little heat.

They lift a hand to wave at the two, making their way over to greet and join the two.

“Assuming you’re the photographer,” they say to the one holding the camera. Then they turn to the follower, “and you are?...”

the other person traveling with them is waiting just ahead, and while the photographer splits off to greet them, aries is prepared to barely give them any attention. they're not sure if it's the heat, or the fact that they don't want to deal with any distractions, or a mix of both, but she hopes they're not as talkative.[break][break]

she's had luck, so far, with the photographer- which, honestly, she thinks that may have just been a her thing, with how easily they answer the stranger's questions. so much for their partner on this not being talkative.[break][break]

for a second, still, she hopes that she'll be ignored in favor of the photographer- and that's dashed just as quickly. "aries." she answers, simply, and maybe a bit more harshly than she had originally planned. she debates letting silence fall, there, but in the end clears her throat- even if it gives away how awkward she's feeling, suddenly.[break][break]

"there's nothing here we need to deal with first, right?" besides meeting our other person she almost adds, but decides to hold bite her tongue at the last minute.

The photographer’s simple enough to talk to, didn’t seem like they’d be going out of their way to cause or seek any particular trouble, hopefully, so Lethe could be thankful for that at the very least.

Evidently, the same couldn’t be said of the ocean-haired one. Aries’s tone is harsh, and Lethe is immediately distrusting of the stranger. They had only just met, after all, and she wasn’t doing herself any favors.

“Right. Lethe,” they introduce themself curtly in return, after a moment of more than awkward silence. They find themselves grateful once more that the photographer doesn’t seem difficult; they don’t want to be stuck chasing around or truly saving this person from grave peril if this was to be their partner in those tasks.

This is why they usually only took group jobs if they knew of the others on it. Too late for that now.

Looking at the photographer, they wait for them to answer Aries’s question. They sure as hell aren’t going to.

either the stranger has more in common with aries and being awkward than they had originally thought, or she's already ruined their first impression. she doesn't know if she really minds either way, honestly, because at least it means she won't have to deal with random questions about herself.[break][break]

and, to be fair, what are the chances they'll met again? slim to none?[break][break]

the stranger introduces themself just as curtly as lethe, and aries gives a little nod in answer, finding herself not sure what to say. it would be nice to say its nice to meet them, but she isn't about to decide that until the mission's over. if it goes as well as she thinks it will, then maybe.[break][break]

the poor photographer is quick to try to make up for the awkward silence, though, jumping in with a quick "no, that should be it. we just needed to pick up them- lethe. now we'll just..." seemingly giving up, just as fast as they had jumped in, the photographer trailed off to continue on the path with just a wave to the two behind them.[break][break]

with a last, awkward glance at lethe to try to gauge their expression, aries falls in behind the photographer.

A small nod. Right, Lethe can’t say their introduction gave much room for conversation. They felt somewhat bad. Or they didn’t, who knew. Maybe it was just their nerves getting in the way of them. New people could do that sometimes.

They’re careful to maintain their stoic, difficult-to-read face, though. They wouldn’t let it drop for anything. Even as the photographer scrambles to patch the silence up, Lethe just listens.

Well, until they give up. They get what it’s like to be ignored, they guess. “So what are you — we — looking for, exactly?” The photographer gets asked. They don’t change their facial expression though, so it ends up coming out sort of monotonous.

They’re doing their best to ignore Aries, who glances at them — they wonder if she thinks they couldn’t see — since she doesn’t seem too eager to contribute to conversation. Maybe they’ll try to pull them in in a moment, they decide.

aries still feels sort of bad for the photographer, because between the two of them, it seems that whatever introductions were made will be more or less the end of conversation. at least that's what she thinks, as the photographer fumbles with their camera following the awkward silence, until lethe speaks up again.[break][break]

the poor photographer perks up, seemingly excited by the idea of being spoken to about this, as aries watches, still finding that she has nothing to say. if the photographer minds lethe's more monotonous tone, they don't show it. "there's a lot of flora here that seems like it would make for good pictures! if we can get some pictures of pokemon, that'd be good, too, but i'm really not looking for it to happen."[break][break]

lethe seems to be ignoring aries herself in favor of the photographer; she doesn't know if she minds it or not. on one hand, it means she won't have to deal with the conversation- on the other, it's enough to make her decide that she already doesn't like them.[break][break]

oh, well. as long as they more or less leave her alone, she won't have to worry about it too much, and...again, she doubts they'll meet anywhere else after this. hopes they don't, at this point.
