It is always hard when things that should be easy turn out agonizingly arduous. When Oscar set out to create his 'PokePods', he thought his efforts would snowball into success after the first prototype's failure. Yet as he put the finishing touches on the second prototype, he found himself no closer than he was a few weeks ago. He found himself at a roadblock, unable to find the desired suction of Infinity Energy. So many pokemon have been turned to ashes in his pursuit to revolutionize energy, surely their lives would be in vain if he could not reach a breakthrough!

Oscar had reached out to Lulu Flint for help, he figured since he was working in her research facility she would be able to drop by at some point. Unfortunately, her schedule has been filled to the brim for the foreseeable future. Oscar felt his confidence waver, after all without his scientific partner in crime would he actually be able to pull this off? Luckily Lulu referred him to another Rocket researcher, and Oscar called upon her to visit as soon as she could.

Enter Ceri Glynn; Oscar had yet to meet her but if she had the skillset he was promised they were about to become best friends. Oscar was currently waiting for her in his workshop, deep beneath Lulu's research facility. He had went ahead and given her clearance, so the security porygon throughout the facility should not give her any trouble. His workshop would not be hard to find, his name was on a fancy plaque next to the door and his voice could clearly be heard cursing as he loudly pounded upon the monstrous mound of electronics that was his PokePod. Hopefully she will not immediately run away.

She’s running late, and so it’s literally that she runs; with the cardio and the coordination of one who is young and who has been trained by years upon years of running across campus in order to avoid being late for class. Except, of course, for the fact that Ceri isn’t actually particularly athletic, that her cardio sucks, and that there are only a few things she hates more than running.

She pauses a few metres away from the door to oscar clayton’s workshop. A moment taken to catch her breath, fix her hair, and make sure she doesn’t look like a total mess when first meeting a man who, judging by his many titles (CEO of GMH, Team Rocket Beast, so on and so forth), must also be incredibly smart.

Once this moment is over, she walks in with a smile. There are a myriad of people Ceri has found herself working side-by-side with at Team Rocket’s facilities, many of them being fellow scientists and many of them being people who couldn’t care less about that sort of thing but had been assigned to help the science division.

At this point, she’s not sure exactly what she’d call Oscar, but she’s way too curious.

”Hey hey! Ceri Glynn, you asked to meet me? Sorry if I’m a little late.” She greets him, yet her gaze is immediately drawn towards machinery. Warm eyes scrutinise every inch of the PokéPod, and quietly, a single word leaves her lips after a second. ”Cool.”

Oscar, deep into the machinery of his PokePod, would be caught off guard by Ceri's arrival. Her sudden greeting would cause Oscar to jump, smacking his head against the metal innards of his machine. His voice, while muffled, could be clearly heard as he shouted in pain.

"Fuck! Son of a bitch!"

There was a moment's pause before the Beast would scramble out of his workspace, holding the back of his head as he turned around. While his eyes conveyed annoyance, Oscar was in-fact rather pleased to see Ceri arrive. His pained smile reflected his delight as he raised his free hand in greeting. "Hey! Sorry, you caught me by surprise there. Oscar Clayton, it's great to meet you. I'm in a bit of a pickle."

Oscar gestured toward a nearby workbench covered in papers. "Uh, if you could grab the big green paper that look vaguely like schematics I'll fill you in on what I'm trying to do." Oscar turned his attention back to the machine while Ceri grabbed the paper, forgetting that sitting on top of those schematics were a set of very concerning energy readings from the Mauville Powerplant. Oscar had been examining them religiously, and forgot to put them away before company arrived...

oscar clayton is not at all what Ceri had expected him to be, and that’s a good thing, because when metal and cursing reaches the researcher’s ears, she can’t help but use the tablet in her hands to hide light laughter.

When she lowers the tablet once more, there’s a bright and sweet smile to contrast the pain in Oscar’s own.

”You’re good! Sorry if I startled you. I’ll get you those schematics.” She responds, forcing herself to turn her attention away from all the fascinating machinery and walks towards the workbench. At first she pays little mind to the other papers there, focused on the green one, but when moving others to retrieve it something catches her eye. A rare yet slight frown forms at Ceri’s brow, colourful and perfectly manicured nails tracing measurements.

Ceri is no physicist, but studying science means having a certain understanding of such things, and her work for Team Rocket has often meant branching out from her usual fields.

”Hey, you own the Mauville power plant, right?” Carefully pulling the schematics off the workbench, she calls out to Oscar before approaching. ”Those are some wild readings you got there.”

She doesn’t even apologise for snooping, she just offers him the papers he had requested, curious as ever.

Oscar was too busy tinkering to notice Ceri's snooping, only pausing as she raised an inquiry. Oscar once again turned away from his machine, offering Ceri a confused leer as she approached. He took the schematics she handed him and looked them over once before finally providing an answer.

"Yeah I run the Mauville plant. Those readings are from--a project." Oscar had yet to share Zapdos's visits with anyone, not even GMH's board of directors knew the purpose of the Perch on the very top of the Mauville Power Plant. It was getting increasingly difficult to play off these energy surges, if word got out that Oscar was using company resources to feed a greedy legendary pokemon he could end up in hot water.

Ceri was not on the board of directors though, plus she was apparently a very skilled scholar. Maybe she could give some insight? Oscar put the schematics down and began tinkering with more purpose. As he did so he would finally give context to the readings, a sign of the trust he placed in his fellow Rockets.

"Been getting visits from a legendary pokemon. I bulldozed its home when I built the plant so I figure I could make things square by feeding it energy whenever it's in town. Thing is, its appearances are completely random. It shows up when it wants to and sucks up way too much electricity. Causes those big spikes you saw on the sheet."

Oscar briefly held his hand out, "Hey can you pass me the medium sized adjustable wrench?" Ceri would be able to find a pile of tools not too far from Oscar's machines, unorganized and scattered. Don't worry, he has a system.

Ceri has never been one to be particularly interested in legendary Pokémon, but she is interested in the abilities some of them have. A Pokémon that takes energy energy from a power plant? Now, that's a juicy one. A million ideas cross the researcher's mind.

"Oh! That's so exciting! So you haven't been able to determine any variables that remain the same between its visits? I guess it could just stop by when it's hungry or something..." She muses, not pausing for even a second while her gaze is drawn to Oscar's pile of tools. Among them, her gaze searches for a medium sized adjustable wrench. Good thing she knows her tools.

"What legendary pokémon is it? Electric one would be my guess."

Is she prying too much?

Someone else would perhaps worry about that, but Ceri just gives Oscar his wrench and smiles.

Oscar accepted the wrench and smirked, nodding in thanks. This woman was a machine gun, her mind was traveling faster than a hotrod on the freeway. Oscar should have gotten that second cup of coffee he had decided against hours ago.

He was glad to see her enthusiasm though, he would gladly take excitement over disinterest. He ducked back into his machine and began to adjust some of the stability bolts. "Its name is Zapdos." He said with a tinge of effort in his voice as he multitasked. "According to theology scholars, it is the third member of the Kanto bird trio. You may have heard of Articuno and Moltres, both are a lot friendlier than Zapdos."

Oscar pushed himself out of the machine, wiping some sweat off his brow. "It's an electric type with a hefty appetite for Infinity Energy and electricity. There's no lattern other than it only stops by when its starving. That's the lone constant, if I could find a way to predict that it was coming I could be more prepared to feed it. Or better yet, meet it in person."

Oscar was surprised that his information came so readily, after all he had kept this a close secret for some time. It felt nice to share though, and Ceri at least seemed very intrigued.

"Zapdos! I've heard of those, Galar has some old stories about them." Bedtime stories her father would tell her whenever he was actually home for her bedtime instead of drinking and gambling their money away, but who has time to waste thoughts on that worthless man? We're talking about interesting things here!

"Shame it shows up so inconsistently, though. You'd think something like setting up an energy banquet for it would work, like a big Tesla coil or something... The power plant has a special magnetic field, yeah? I've read about some steel and electric types being attracted to those. Since magnetic fields are in constant flux, maybe there's a chance it shows up when the magnetic field is stronger."

Ceri makes a habit out of voicing many of her thoughts, and when she does, she does so quickly and dripping in a northern Galarian lilt that seems more and more pronounced with the more excited she is. That is what happens at this very moment, and only once she pauses to further consider possibilities on how to attract Zapdos' attention, does she realize what she just did.
