it didn't take him this long to notice, no, but it did take him this long to finally comment on it. chalk it up to the heat of the desert or the thrill of almost being killed.[break][break]

There's a glimmer of interest in Katherine's eyes, an impish sparkle that betrays her true intentions. She certainly seemed to appreciate Alexander's newfound forthrightness. "Mm," she mulls over it despite knowing how to answer, "It depends. Will you still be this direct later?"

A smile ghosts over her features, a crack in the walls she's built and maintained. She, too, was no longer shackled by any inhibitions—at least not here. It was easy for Katherine to get lost in the moment with Alexander inside the rift, so far away from Hoenn.

"What, you don't think you've found enough for one day?" The only indication that she referred to herself rather than the tomb was her flirtatious tone. "But yes, we can keep going. I think I have a couple more hours in me." Before the heat becomes too unbearable, she means.

The smile lingers when Alexander dusts the sand off her shoulder, and for a moment- Katherine is just silent. Content. Perhaps even speechless. Not even a snarky retort or a flirty innuendo part through her lips.

"Yeah," she breathes, "let's."

The desert, for the most part, proves uneventful. There's just... a lot of sand. Beyond the occasional cactus, there's just more sand. Eventually, they come across more sand dunes, and Katherine decides to climb one. A sparkle from afar entices her, drawing hear near. The glitter of gems and jewellery sings to her, but she can't quite tell what it is.

The GRISEOUS SHARD attached to her necklace shines in a similar way when a ray of sunlight hits it.

"I saw something here," she tells Alexander, "Do you think we can find it?"

25 encounter sentient mounds of sand that attempt to replicate the shapes of loved ones to lure you in (e.g. this can be a palossand or supernatural force).

The Malevolent is too occupied with searching with her eyes to notice that the sand is slowly pulling them in, gradually beginning to drag them down.

Katherine will drown in the sand if she has to. The scary part is—she doesn't really seem to care, not about her potential death or Alexander's. Only one thing is worthy of her focus now. "This, Alex! This!" Her hand tugs at her necklace, which causes the GRISEOUS SHARD to glitter when rays of light strike it. "I saw it. There's another one here."
