The Ultra Desert's sweltering heat could turn even a seasoned adventurer into a sweaty mess. The dry desert air was like breathing furnace dust, and there wasn't even a cloud in sight. Katherine now regretted her reluctance towards visiting THE BORDER. It must've been better than whatever this was.

A long exhale was all she could manage before she finally surrendered to her urges. There's an eagerness to her movement when she removes her shirt, completely failing to consider whether that'd be appropriate to do near her partner. Funny. The same feeling Alexander puts to words once plagued Katherine's mind as a fear-- it's what she imagined life would be like had Hoenn perished in the battle against the dark triad. Giratina and her, alone in the distortion world, with no one to torment, mock, or tease.

She's slightly distracted when the bottle is offered to her, but a small smile plays across her lips when she accepts it. She takes a sip, then another, enjoying the refreshing feeling the liquid provides. "I'll take your word for it," the Malevolent says as they finish climbing the sand dune-- revealing a tomb that remained hidden below until now.

The vault's door catches her attention when they finally come face to face with it, reminding her of a door she once phased through inside Regirock's Tomb. One might expect that such a previous experience would influence the Malevolent to avoid this place, but she believes herself to be better prepared.

"Not really, no," she says flatly. "I've had a bad experience or two with tombs like these, but I doubt a titan is waiting for us inside this time."

Her eyes shift to Alexander before briefly flitting back to the door and then back to him, "Do you want to go inside?"

The faintest trace of a smile graces the edge of Katherine's mouth. Soft and fleeting, it vanishes before one might catch sight of it. The Malevolent is quick to turn, too, following Alexander's offer. It's evident that she holds no qualms with leading; in fact, the way Katherine carries herself practically screams that it's all she knows.

Fortunately, Alexander's only ever seen the good sides of such a trait so far. In his death, he's been spared plenty of ego-driven and spite-fueled arguments in the League's chambers, AQUA-related specifically.

A step, and then another-- and then the tomb trembles. It quakes. However, Katherine stops dead in her tracks just a moment before that occurs, as if having sensed it coming. Her eyes close briefly as wisps of distorted energy emanate from the floor around her. "Fuck," it's hushed, as though intended more as a thought than a whisper... "We should hurry it up."

It happened again. This universe was also moving away from Hoenn.

alexander has no qualms about following rather than leading. he had assumed katherine would have been comfortable with that dynamic anyways given what he knows of her. so he returns her faint smile with one of his own before following her in.[break][break]

perhaps he will be privy to her arguments in the future.[break][break]

he's not as gifted as her so he doesn't sense the trembling. when she stops, he's still walking and is barely able to stop in time to avoid bumping into her.[break][break]

instinctively, almost naturally, his hand reaches out for her when the trembling starts. whether it's to steady himself or her is lost to the moment.[break][break]

"katherine."[break][break]

his gaze is focused on the glistening gold that rests beneath them. now, as the tomb trembles, there's almost a flickering to the treasure all around them.[break][break]

he digs his foot into a pile only to find no resistance. he simply passes through.[break][break]

"we should leave. now."[break][break]

It doesn't register at first. His hand reaching for hers, the touch they share, a fleeting moment of precious peace in chaos.

She only seems to notice when the tomb ceases its rumbling-- one. Two. Three. They are graced with three seconds of reprieve before it quakes once more, as though urging them to leave faster.

"--Yeah. We really should."
[break][break]
A part of her feels almost responsible now for putting him in jeopardy and bringing him along, knowing the fate of these universes, but she tries to dismiss it.

Before they can pass the entrance, the trembling finally reaches a boiling point. The tomb comes apart. It's no longer dust and sand that falls from the ceiling above them, but rather, chunks of stone. Giant bricks. They collapse near Alexander, threatening to bury him and cement this place as his burial plot.

"Alexander!"
[break][break]
A ripple of distorted energy splits from Katherine, momentarily suspending gravity. Both he and her now float above the ground, and the bricks' descent ceases altogether for now.
[break][break]
"Fuck-" with each tremble and quake, the foundation of the tomb grows weaker. More bricks threaten to fall. "I can't hold it for much longer," it slows her. Having to maintain some semblance of focus means she can't just run ahead, "--leave. I'll be right behind you."

He has to let go.

GRAVITY suspends. they're both lifted up into the air, surrounded by bricks and debris that threaten to crush them.[break][break]

straining against the weight of it all, against the forces that push and pull, he looks at her and sees the urgency.[break][break]

he exhales, catching his breath as he glances over his shoulder at the exit.[break][break]

"you better be right behind me."[break][break]

Katherine waits for Alexander to cross the exit, gravity remaining suspended until she can't quite see him.

Giratina's frustration pulses along her heartbeat, almost scolding her for that shred of doubt she dares voice against his powers and her blessing. "Oh, come off it," her voice is sweet. Mischievous. Taunting, almost, but not in a way that could ever insult the god. "Yes, I know we could keep this going for a lot longer. But where's the fun in him knowing that?"

It wouldn't paint her in such a brilliantly selfless light, would it?

A breath and a heartbeat later, the Malevolent ceases her control and allows gravity to return to form. When she does, the bricks finally succumb and complete their descent-- but not before she vanishes.

She apparates like a shadow, emerging outside the tomb as it collapses in on itself, just a couple of inches behind Alexander himself, "Boo."

slipping back out into the hot and arid desert, he has nothing else to do but wait for her to eventually reappear; something he knows she will do. so worry never really crosses his mind. more so uneasiness at the thought of her being buried alive.[break][break]

a small cloud of sand scatters behind them as the tomb collapses in on itself. his gaze remains on her, however.[break][break]
