Okay, so he told himself he was going to—

He couldn’t help it, this would be his last match for the entire tournament! Or so he hoped.

He just wanted the biggest prize, and when he did get his hands on said biggest prize, he would just watch the rest of the matches from the sidelines, so there was that…

His Absol was already pacing on her side of the field, so who would show up and humor them with a battle? He watched, and waited…

The man arrived without flare nor fanfare.

He tried to, anyway.

Between his knightly swagger, flapping cape and air of competence, even the act of walking seemed to carry enough hype factor within it to excite the crowd.

Above him, an avian flew at high speed, casting a vast shadow over the battlefield as it dove sharply and came to a sudden halt inches away from the soil, its vast wing span spread wide, sending dust and pebbles flying everywhere.

"Apologies for the delay." The man said as he came to a stop on his end of the battlefield. "I am Gwyar Wledig. Shall we begin?"

He couldn’t help but laugh at the ‘dynamic entry!!!’ that the Corviknight had made, gravel splattering everywhere the moment they came in for the three-point landing from the skies above.

“No worries, you ain’t late, we just got here ourselves,” he waved off the other man’s arrival with a grin. “Name’s Jack, and—”

Before they could exchange any more words, the bell rung; signifying the start of the match!

This time, while he was not usually one to take the offensive, the Absol would begin the prep work by getting ready with a Swords Dance to raise the fighting spirit, eyes never leaving the avianid Pokémon’s line of sight.

Gwyar swept his arm, which was all the signal Lancelette needed, her wings flapping with enough force to whip up a dustcloud.

Launching high in the air, the Corviknight's gaze zeroed into her opponent before the whole of her steel body glimmered like a blade and she dropped towards it in a dive.

The moment the wind cut through the arena their Pokémon were fighting on, hell even the Absol had to squint for a few moments before the much-larger-than-a-Skarmory avian took off and charged forward; wings grating like streel bars clanking against each other…

“Don’t just stand there, move!” he all but yelped; and the Absol quickly reared up before lashing out with a surprise Psycho Cut attack!

That bird was coming in way too fast for her own good…

Blades cutting against her steel armor, the avian grunted but remained otherwise stalwart, refusing to backdown as she chased after her opponent.

Humming thoughtfully, Gwyar raised his fist in the air, the gauntlet around it gleaming as the embedded keystone within activated.

The Corviknight was enveloped within a dark egg, bursting free within seconds in its megaform. 5 other creatures seemed to surge from it, hovering around it like drones, blasting away at the Absol as she charged close.

TL;DR:
-Lancelette is Mega Evolving.
-Lancelette used Steel Wing.

Okay, wait one second, hold the fuck up this Pokémon could also Mega Evolve?!

He couldn’t help but take out his tome, along with a pen and flipped to a fresh, blank page before quickly scribbling down notes as fast as he could in his shit shorthand while the Absol had to back up a little bit—since when did this thing get suddenly big?!

“Careful!” he called while still scribbling onto the paper before allowing himself the briefest of glances. “Don’t lose your cool!”

And with that she would charge forward again; this time with a surprise attempt at a Sucker Punch attack!

Her head still rocking after the sucker punch, the bird attempted to get in one table turning Brave bird, her silhouette shimmering with the heat as she was enveloped in a blazing aura.

How did that happen?

The last attack actually landed and caused the Corviknight to come crashing to the ground—and then the rest was lost in a blur of noise because he… he actually won against that big, scary metal bird?

“Hey,” he called from his side of the field as he climbed the stage to get his Absol down and off, “…that was a nice match! Your bird is extremely terrifying, I’ll admit, I was shaking in my boots!”
